Whitney Peak Hotel invites Washoe County residents and Whitney Peak Hotel guests to donate new and/or gently used winter coats to benefit women and children in need through a partnership with the Committee to Aid Abused Women (CAAW). The Committee to Aid Abused Women (CAAW) is a northern Nevada non-profit organization that provides free, confidential services and resources, including food, clothing and transportation, in an effort to bring an end to family violence in Washoe County. The Whitney Peak Holiday Coat Drive runs from Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 through Thursday, January 15, 2015. The hotel will place convenient drop-off bins in the lobby at 255 N. Virginia Street, Reno, NV 89501. CAAW will distribute all collected outerwear to women and children from designated shelters and safe havens in Reno, where the need for warm coats is greatest. Various sizes of jackets and coats are needed for women and their families, including ladies, teens, children and babies.

In "Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body" kids will finally get the answers to all the questions they have about the mushy, oozy, crusty, scaly, and smelly biology of the body. This science-in-disguise exhibition features dozens of animatronics, imaginative games, and interactive elements to take visitors on an up close and personal tour of the body functions that most people don’t like to talk about!

-Take aim and launch dirt balls into a larger-than-life nose to discover how boogers are formed.
-Play the “Gas Attack” pinball game with bumpers dressed up as food items that cause gas.
-Mimic the build-up of acid indigestion by causing the “Burp Machine” to release a giant belch.
-Visit the “Vomit Center” to learn the many reasons humans vomit.
-Take a ride on the GI slide to discover how food becomes waste.
-Scale a skin climbing wall where the hand and foot holds are pimples, warts, and scabs.
-Discover other mysterious ways the body’s biology does what it needs to do to keep us healthy!

The region's longest, most spectacular fireworks display is set off from the roof of the Nugget while thousands of revelers celebrate July 4th on Victorian Square below. Live entertainment for the whole family, a kid's area and an array of food choices complete the evening. The Nugget is proud to host the 15th annual Star Spangled Sparks fireworks show and 4th of July celebration! The Nugget’s 2014 fireworks show in Sparks will be the biggest fireworks show in the Northern Nevada area,and we invite everyone to come down on Friday, July 4th to celebrate. Children will delight in the facepainters, clowns and magicians roaming the square,as well as an array of rides and activities.The kids’ area will be located on Victorian Plaza, adjacent to Century Theatres, and will include games, a super slide and mechanical rides. Ride tickets will be available for purchase just outside the Kids’ Area. Live music from the main stage (located toward the West End of Victorian Avenue) will keep the crowd dancing into the evening. West Bay Rhythm will be providing live entertainment from 5:00 p.m.–9:30 p.m. Emily Hammer will be singing the Nationalm Anthem prior to the start of the fireworks show (approx. 9.45 p.m.). Multiple food and drink vendors will be setup providing tasty and delicious snacks and refreshing drinks from 2:0 0p.m.–9:30 p.m.for everyone to enjoy.Also the restaurants inside the Nugget will be extending their hours for some late night dinner after the show.

The Great Reno Balloon Race is the world's largest free hot-air ballooning event. The 2014 event takes place Sept. 11-13, 2015 at Rancho San Rafael Region Park and features the Darth Vader balloon, from Germany, as this year's prominent special shape. With nearly 100 balloons and 100,000+ in attendance each year, the event is a permanent fixture in Reno's September skyline.
