Special Collections has a new exhibit on the third floor of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, Upstart Crow: Shakespeare in Northern Nevada. This exhibit coincides with Shakespeare 400, the national commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. The display examines the impact of Shakespeare, both past and present, in Northern Nevada. Materials on display range from the flourishing 1800’s Virginia City Shakespearean theater scene to the modern Lake Tahoe Shakespeare festival. A high point of the exhibit is the original first through fourth folios of the Merchant of Venice. This exhibit is free and runs through July 15.

On display in the Whittemore Gallery of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, University of Nevada Reno is the exhibit Media Technology, Past and Present. Through this exhibit, visitors will enjoy a visual display of media technological leaps. Media Technology is presented by the Knowledge Center and was made possible through a grant from IGT and with the cooperation of Tim Stoffel, Tom Gordon, Imirage Sound Lab, KNPB and KOLO Channel 8. This exhibit will be on display through June 2016.

ARTful Women is a group of five female artists from California, making their Nevada debut in a vibrant new exhibition at the Wilbur D. May Museum. Their diverse styles are represented in captivating works that are stitched, dyed, painted, printed, stamped, waxed, fused, and embellished. The exhibition will feature a selection of small fiber works that give visitors a rare opportunity to appreciate hand-made original artwork produced in a labor-intensive medium. Free admission.

It's the eighth annual event and will include live entertainment, slow bike races, ride-in shows, poker runs, scavenger hunts, more than 80 vendors, VIP parties for participants and more.

Reno Rodeo is a non-profit organization made up over 400 volunteers. Over 140,000 fans will be in attendance for the 4th richest PRCA tour rodeo. The event impacts the Reno/Sparks area economy with $42 million going to hotels, casinos, restaurants and retail. The Great Reno Balloon Race is the world's largest free hot-air ballooning event. The 2015 event takes place Sept. 9-11, 2016 at Rancho San Rafael Region Park and features the Darth Vader balloon, from Germany, as this year's prominent special shape. With nearly 100 balloons and 100,000+ in attendance each year, the event is a permanent fixture in Reno's September skyline. Other Futurity activities include the NRCHA Hall of Fame Banquet; the enormous Best of the West trade show; the Snaffle Bit Futurity Horse Sales; and horse show classes for horses age 4 and older.
