Sounds like a leak in the fuel line somewhere.

Sorry about the delay. I had to do laundry and catch up on my sleep. While never changing time zones, it seems like I've had jet lag for the past week or so. My liver is feeling much better now, thank you.

Oh....so here I am, 40 miles or so from Reno, with a fuel warning light that is on solid all the time. BIG MISTAKE! My anxiety is compounded by the fact that four or five years ago, I DID run out of gas 2 miles short of my scheduled fuel stop (that's another reason I'm not a pilot).

Well, I did make it to Bordertown's gas station but Good Lord Almighty, the anarchy that self serve pumps offer (Oregon requires attendant fuel all cars), really bugs me. Like a moron, I drive in behind a van ( BIG MISTAKE!) from which 13 high school kids pile out (without begining fueling) and another car pulls in behind, blocking me in.

Long story short, I get a short fuel up except it took me 20 minutes.

On my way to the Sands to cash one of several paychecks (they USED to have a killer "double your paycheck" promotion) hiding in my glove box.

SURPRISE !!! "Double your Paycheck" has been cancelled by that guy with the black hat & handlebar mustache...replaced with a "Spin the Wheel & win a keychain" promotion. OOOOPS.... This is Thursday, July 3rd. THAT would mean it's PAYDAY for all of the "UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS" that for some reason, have no bank account.

Now I try my best to keep an open mind, but not so opened, my brains fall out. It doesn't quite seem right for the line at the casino cage to include 35 men AND their rather large entire families including babies under the age of 3 months. I decide to get a drink at the same bar I got my progressive Royal last trip.

Needless to say, that one beer cost about $ 100 and the line at the cage is even longer! Now there must be at least 20 small children waiting (and playing tag around the casino) while Padre is waiting to cash his paycheck. BIG MISTAKE.

I called John earlier and he told me he had to work in Reno (NOT VIRGINIA CITY AS PLANNED) . I decided I had enough cash on hand and I've had enough of the cigarette smoke and stale beer smell at the Sands. Besides, I see NO evidence of the high school girls volleyball team that brought me luck last trip.

Only 27 more miles to VC and I'll have it made. Oh...goody!! Gas on S. Virginia Street only $ 4.07 (MUCH BETTER THAN $ 4.79 in California).

Up the hill I go.

35 minutes later, I pull up to the Mark Twain Casino and I no sooner walk in, than I meet 4 - 5 pals. Odd, how I can go to any bar within a mile of my home and know NOONE, but drive 465 miles, and I feel like Norm on Cheers. "Hey, J.D.'s back in town....did you bring those damn $ 2 bills again?"

Ok, so I have a reputation for tipping $ 2 bills. MOST people would prefer a $ 2 tip to a $1 tip with only one exception that I know of. (Funny [BIG MISTAKE] sidebar story about that).

I almost forgot, "Reno's Best Bartender" said he would be in VC about the time I got there. So I call him to tell him I'm in town....BIG MISTAKE!

I proceed to take on the $ 1 video Poker machines (BIG MISTAKE) near the door and quaff down my first of four, $ 80 beers.

More later....

I get the hint.

So to avoid reading the long version here is the Cliff Notes....no wait...I already gave you the chapter headings.

1. Don't buy gas in California
2. Don't invite Mark to leave his side of the bar.
3. Don't buy any $ 100 beers or $ 80 Bloody Marys.

1. So, who buys gas? My car runs on Fat Tires.
2. I NEVER want to be on the same side of the bar as Mark. He is a "sloppy" kisser.
3. I always leave after each $40 Fat Tire. No Bloody Marys for this (almost) tee-totaller......

Thanks for "special" report for the illiterate. Keep em comin....
