<-- Some dude hanging around the Cal Neva

My Trip report April 7th to 11th

Well, this was another guy’s trip so I was prepared for the “worst”. Seven of us flew to Reno from Bellingham via Allegiant Air on Monday April 7th. Good flight down and check in at the Silver Legacy was quick and painless. We had a new Reno inductee along so the first thing we did, after getting established at the hotel, was take a walk down Virginia St. The Golden Phoenix is still boarded up. (I thought there were plans to open just that Virginia St. casino).

We had a toast at the Cal Neva to a friend we lost a couple of years ago. He used to love to play Black Jack in the Top Deck area. Here’s to the “Fig”!

We ate at the Sedona in the Silver Legacy that night and had many more meals there through out our stay. The food was always good and portions were very generous.

That first evening I had some of my best luck ever. I was up about $300 playing mainly at the Eldorado. I didn’t play any large denominations so this wasn’t a bad profit at all. And I played a large variety of slots but mainly Pharaoh’s Fortune and Video Poker. It seemed I could not do much wrong. Had a few beers while playing and met the guys at Shooters later in the evening. It was a good night at Shooters everyone having a fun time and drinking with the female bartenders.

I hit the gaming floor with high expectations the next day. Unfortunately reality had other plans for me. Now I could not win at anything and my profits from the previous evening quickly evaporated. In the afternoon I jumped on a bus and went to the Atlantis. I tried “Multi Strike Super Times Pay” there but my luck did not return.

A short while later I stopped in at John’s place for a visit with him, Charlie and Higgins. Those birds are really getting to like me. Charlie didn’t want me to know the time so he ate my watch strap. Although the birds are always affectionate I think they were really hoping that Alison had finally come for a visit.

Around four John and I set off for the short walk to the Peppermill. (This is still a little unreal for me. Just think of it, being able to set foot in Alison’s Castle whenever you wanted too!) We met most of my friends at the fireside. One poor guy didn’t make it as he had tried to empty Shooters of all its Vodka that previous night. We all enjoyed a few beers and appetizers and John comped the bill. Thanks John!

Eager to see if my luck had turned, we all ventured out into the casino. John and I played Video Poker at the cube bar. John managed a few 4 OAKs but I couldn’t get any hands that good.

After a good Sedona breakfast, Wednesday morning we caught the shuttle back to the airport to pick up a mini van I had rented thru Priceline. (Got a great deal!) They gave us an upgrade to a full size van to boot. I was the designated driver and I drove the guys to Tahoe’s north shore and down the Nevada side to Stateline. We stopped a few times to enjoy the view and take pictures. The lake never looked so spectacular. I’ll try to post some of the pics.

After a fantastic late lunch at Harrah’s Forest buffet, (on the top floor, the view is worth the price of admission) we drove to Virginia city.

Actually we stopped at Gold Hill just short of Virginia city. Nevada’s oldest hotel stands there and we went inside for a look around. They have a really nice looking restaurant and a great little bar.

The boys had a beer there then we drove thru Virginia City and stopped at the graveyard. You can feel the history as you stroll thru there. The well to do still have fine headstones while those less fortunate have just crumbling pile of boards. The site offers a good view of the city too.

We called it a day and I dropped the guys back in Reno and I returned the van to the Airport.

I realize this report is getting a little long winded so I’ll abbreviate the rest of the trip.

Four of us walked to the Atlantis on Thursday and had a good lunch in their coffee shop. Gambling was unprofitable. I did some bargain hunting at Big 5 sports and the Ross store on south Virginia. That night, back in town, gambling at the Eldorado my luck began to improve again and I celebrated with a few to many beers. Jerry, some of them were “Fat Tires” and they were mighty fine. Later on I met one of the guys and we went for another beer at Shooters.

We left Reno on Friday the 14th and had a great flight back to Bellingham. I was lucky enough to “land” a great window seat and took pictures all the way home.

Got some mail from the Eldorado a couple of days after getting home. I’m a golden boy again!

OK this avatar is unusual. Strange perhaps. I promise to leave it up for just a couple of hundred days. For those of you with a warped sense of humor... enjoy!

Another great avatar but I would never expect less.

I think it's funny so we all know where that places me -- right in the middle of the "warped sense of humor class".... Smile

Keep em comin, BCD.

"I was up about $300 playing mainly at the Eldorado."
Shoulda quit after the first day's gambling and spent the time and money at Shooters. Cool (Or maybe not)

"this was another guy’s trip"
That's the kind of friend I need. My "friends" won't even go to Reno with me. It's like: "Oh, I couldn't leave my wife alone for three days". Thing is he spends no time with his wife anyway except to chaffeur her to shopping malls where he sits in the car.

"Jerry, some of them were “Fat Tires” and they were mighty fine"
Man, you have me salivating for those Fat Babies. I have some nice ales in the frig but no Fatties right now.

"really hoping that Alison had finally come for a visit"
She did!! Twisted Evil Wink

"I set off for the short walk"
Man, you do some heavy-duty walking whilst in the Biggest Little.

Great report. Gotta get back to work after I read the other notes.
Glad to see the action picking up on the board again. Guess I can wait a few more days before my Reno Trek.. That Flight 815 stuff works every time.

Great report, Dave. Too bad you couldn't keep up the winning streak. I can't wait to see Janice again so I can tell her how much time you spend at Shooters.

Charlie was so pissed that you left, he pooped all over Higgins. Guess who had to clean him up.

Come back soon and bring really good luck with you.

Another great avatar from BC Dave! I'll even overlook the misspelling of "Chandelier"!

Anyway, glad you had fun!

"John managed a few 4 OAKs but I couldn’t "
So, what's new? It's always that way with John. Seems like the rest of us would get a turn sometime, doesn't it?

One night, while I received NO 4 OAKs, John got "bored" because they were coming up so fast for him (But not as fast as the Heinekins were going through).

Wow, I was a little nervous to peek at the board in case my avatar caused moral outrage. I guess I can leave that to the Democratic Presidential candidates!

Thanks for the positive comments on my trip report and avatar.

As far as the spelling mistake goes....I Stan corrected.

You really do mix it up on your trips, sightseeing, visiting bird loving locals, taking pensive moments at gravesights and finding the best beer-throwing-back joints. I'm envious, and I'm there quite a bit too. I could take a page from your travel plans....

Now that you "bring it up", Dave, I still haven't gotten my shoes cleaned from the last time you, John, and I got together for a few Heinie/Tires.

Yeah, I know John, I saw them in the picture Ryder sent with his TR. There were at least 14 pairs of shoes on your patio where you and the Lone Ryder got slammed.
No shoes on the server though, I also noticed.

"Moral Outrage"? On THIS board??

Have you seen the pictures they've been posting elsewhere on the board recently??

Sorry, Dave, didn't mean to make you actually spend energy fixing the typo...
