Sucked. Royal flush paid 1,000 credits plus a $100 bill in your hand on the spot, but that didn't matter to me.

Sunday - Went to registration at 12:30, then lost $120 waiting for the first round to start. On the first round I got 655 points and the players on both sides of me got over 1,000.

Monday - Second round I got 660 points and the players on both sides of me got over 1,000. Since I had $50 in free play, I played VP at the cube bar and won $300. On the third round I got 545 points and the players on both sides of me got over 1,000. Played some VP and won $200.

Awards Ceremony - Didn't go. I'll just let the Peppermill either mail my $25 prize to me or have it delivered in an armored car. Of course, had there been a prize for the lowest score, I'd have been there with a big grin.

I have a comped $199 entry to a slot tournament on March 23 and 24 where the smallest prize is $50. After the VP tournament fiasco, I'm wondering if $50 is a sufficient payoff to justify 4 trips to the Peppermill. What the hell - sure it is. After all, last place pays $2,000 in this tournament!

A little side note: Both BC Dave and JD will be heartbroken to hear that the Peppermill took out all of their Time for Money machines.

Tough luck, there - how about employing Charlie and Higgins to hit the buttons next time; perhaps they'll have better luck?

Of course, they'd probably "Disallow" it, but it would be great to see the looks on their faces when John is sitting there with a bird on each shoulder, who alternate between pecking the "Spin" button.

That's an idea, Stan, but presents two problems. The first is that the participant has to play the game. The other is my birds are cockatoos. They would rather destroy the buttons than punch them. They would also chew all the padding from the chair and eat everyone's jewelry (ask BC Dave's understanding wife about that). Why the hell do I love these things so much?

Ah John, that's a shame.

But you've made my day, thanks. Nothing cheers me up like someone ELSE having a bad day.

Now we want details.

What pay table did they use? Was it like double double bonus with a downgraded Royal (like I predicted) ? Was four aces worth nearly the same as a royal?

Did you have any credits left when the session timed out? Did you feel like you played too fast? Did you find it tough to play for the four of a kind instead of the royal ? Any royals?

How many entries? Where did you place? What did it take to win?

You don't know? You don't remember? You were full of "free" Heiniken?

And ..... How did it feel to be the YOUNGEST entry?

(To insure future comped invites, write a suck up letter to the GM mentioning staff in glowing kiss ass terms. It makes points for them, props for you. DO NOT screw that up by asking them to review a security tape of the parking lot)

Hi John;

Guess I should have told you. I called the Peppermill and asked them to get rid of the "Time for Money" machines. They had obviously developed a software glitch by November when you and I decided to show Janice how great they were.

Best of luck in your next VP tourney.

BC Dave

Yes, it is. Bummer

It was actually a good day because I won $500 after the tournament rounds.

You were very close. The game was double bonus with standard pay tables. Although the machine paid 4,000 for a royal, 3,000 was deducted from the score, so 4 aces paid nearly the same as a royal (800)

No credits left, but had about 5 minutes left after each round, by playing a little faster than normal. The time saver was no beer sips, flirting with the waitresses and bothering those next to me. I always play for the 4OAK over the royal, unless the royal is only one card away. I heard there was one royal each day, neither on my machines.

I didn't go to the awards ceremony or check any results because I just didn't care. That's how good my score was

What's with that? Don't kids today understand the value of free money? I certainly hope they don't think they should actually work for it when it can be won so easily. Although I wasn't the youngest participant, a few of them did call me "sonny".

Too late for that. I already complained about the rigged machines. Mine must have been rigged because we all know I'm a better VP player than the tournament scores indicated. And the tape of the parking lot showed nothing unusual, just the usual muggings and drug deals.

Thanks for clearing that up, Dave. Those machines were pretty rude there at the end of their tour. Odd that they took them out, one would think the Peppermill would like that.

You MUST keep going to these tournaments, if for no other reason than to entertain us with your day.

I play the same on video poker, always going for the 4OAK unless it's one card away. Let's face it, the 4OAK's will keep you playing, the Royals are few and far between and as likely to show up on the deal (no, that isn't mathmatical-or even true really, but it's what I think).

Well, heck - OK! There's a "Fishin' for Cash" high low slot tournament at the Peppermill on March 23 & 24. Last place pays $2,000, so I have a good chance at that one.

The next three at the Pepp:
Tax Break - April 13 & 14 (a break for IRS, that is)
Easter Bunny's Cash - April 27 & 28 (mmmmm, rabbit stew)
Mom's Fortune - May 11 & 12 (according to JD, this should be called grandmom's fortune)

Well that's a bummer. All that great advise everyone gave you -- just wasted. I hate those tournaments where you got to come back. They got it all figured out with the timing. The idea is to get you to play some real money in the casino.

Great move not going to the banquet. While you are waiting to have your glass filled with water, the topic of conversation is always about your score in the tournament.

Maybe they will send over your big check by carrier pigeon.

Glad to hear you at least won some money after the tournament. Even better that you used free play to win. Very Happy

I am just glad we didn't all show up with VisitReno T-shirt and Pom poms to cheer you on. Dang that would have been embarrassing! Smile

Actually, Dave, that might have distracted the other players. Oh hell, it would have distracted me, too.

Hey John,

Thanks for the TR and glad to hear you won something...thanks for the info on the Fishin' for Cash. We are going back to the Pep on Sunday for my birthday. If my lucky machines yield for me (hopefully so) I will try to make it back for it. You are right, you can't go wrong with 2000 being last place!
