I read all the trip reports, so I thought I would add one, especially for one person that really likes to hear the word "Peppermill". I had $85 in free play, my daughter had $50 in free play and with some match plays, dinning coupons and a free room my daughter and I decided to make the trip to the Peppermill. The first stop was the information booth to load up the free play. The gal took my card, and said I was now a "gold card" member. Whoopee.....I guess.

I was able to use it to bypass some of the line upon room check-in. We went up to the room and looked out over the construction of the new tower. I keep reading about people unable to sleep with the construction noise, but I could just barely hear it. This is my 3rd trip since the construction, and I never had a problem with the noise, and I am a light sleeper. I think most of the noisy part is done, as they are putting up glass, so any noise will be inside the new tower.

I play video poker and my daughter likes those penny and nickel jobs. I am sorry, but I just do not understand the appeal of those penny slots. I tried them again, and I cannot figure them out. I win something, and I am not sure why. ?? Lines go here and there. I guess they are cute, but they do nothing for me- sorry. After reading about the casino hold on these machines, I really have a hard time playing them. Speaking of that, I noticed that the Peppermill added some stickers on some of the best VP plays. Look for the "certified loose" sticker on the machine.

Gambling went just terrible this trip. I hit only four 4 of a kinds, and without those the bankroll goes down pretty quickly. I am not too concerned, as in May I brought home $5100. of the Pepps money. You can't win every time. I did win my match play again. I am now 5 for 5 on those match plays.

Not much to talk about dining. Coffee shop for dinner, and the buffet for breakfast. The buffet was an experience for me. I do not like buffets, but my daughter wanted to go for breakfast yesterday. We got in the line, and I see a poster that stated: "preferred service for gold members and above". Hey- that is me! First I get to the pay guy and hand over my card and a coupon. He asked if I wanted to use the discount coupon or my 2 for 1 offer. 2 for 1? I asked him if that was because I am a big shot gold card member? "No, it is because you are an old fart. See that 55 sticker on your card? We know that when you get old any meal could be your last, and we want you to leave us knowing that you got a deal. " Oh- ok give me the final meal deal. I then get to the seater guy. I proudly show my gold card and pointed to the preferred service sign, and tell him I am ready to get preferred treatment. He says: " You are getting it". Huh? Looks like everyone else is getting the same treatment. He then tells me: " See that line area over there? You could have just walked up and bypassed all the rif- raf, peons and undeserving people in line. Next time you will know." Hmmm. OK.

So now on to the chow line. I pick up a plate and find a bottleneck before I get started. After about 10 minutes in this line, I asked the guy in front of me why it is so slow. Oh- this is the line to get a special omelet. I don't want that.....He said just bypass the line. Oh, next time I will know. I walk past all the artery clogging items, but I decided to pick up one piece of bacon. Yes- the #1 worst food you can eat according the American Heart Assoc. I seldom eat bacon, but the salt, nitrates and fat does taste good. I keep walking, and find some fresh melons, but they put some kind of pink creamy sauce on it... yuck. I asked the gal in the back if I could get some without the pink stuff. She huffs, and gives it to me. We get to the end of the food line, and by the time I get back to my seat, I have one piece of bacon, a small cinnamon roll, and some melon pieces. 90 seconds after sitting down, I am done eating. My daughter tells me I did not get enough, and she was right. I go back and see a breakfast burrito. I take one bite of that, and it was terrible. Oh, well- the orange juice and coffee were good. I don't think I will be back to the buffet.

I did decide on my way out of town to check out the Grand Sierra Resort. I have not been in this place in years. It looks nice, and I found some decent video poker to play. It is much darker in there than years past, and the place is so big that it looks like no one is there. I may have to stop in some time and give them some decent play and see what kind of offers they send out. We did also stop in at Boomtown heading for home. Man that Cabellas is going up fast!!

Till next trip...

Alison, you figured it out. Very Happy No- all my daughter wanted was a waffle, so the whole buffet was a bust for us, but for $10 total still not a bad deal. I did notice they had a pizza on the breakfast buffet! I just don't like breakfast, so don't judge the buffet by me. Give it a try.

We did stop in at the Fireside about 4 PM, and got the free shrimp cocktail and chicken on the skewer with peanut sauce. Great!!! If you add in the salted almonds, I could just about call it dinner. Laughing

CAswede thanks for the trip report and the info about the free appetizers...I remember seeing that posted somewhere so I'll be sure to check it out. Someone here on the board told me that the new Sports Deli is also really good. Congrats on getting bumped up to Gold level too...when I was making my reservations they told me that I've been a purple member since January 2005 so maybe on this trip I'll get bumped up to at least bronze!

I like to go to the Fireside on Tuesday nights 4 - 7 PM for $1.50 imported beer. The appetizers they serve on that night are shrimp cocktail and small BBQ ribs. I'm wondering if it's different every night.

John, you may be right, it can very easily change. I have also had some egg rolls. I think it might change according to what they have left over from the previous night buffet. Laughing

I hate to admit it, but one time I had the free appetizers at the Fireside- I polished that off, and moved to the Fish bar. They came over and gave me a second course.

A double hate to admit: I had the double appetizers, had the salted almonds at the Fireside, and the fish crackers at the fish bar........great dinner at a great price. (Free). Very Happy

Yep. Mix those appetizers with a six pack and you have a well balanced meal. Incidently, they'll give you all the appetizers you want. Jerry, BC Dave and I polished off about 32 pounds of shrimp cocktail one night. I had the beer comped, so it was a truly fulfilling meal at a great price.

Thanks for the trip report, it made me chuckle.

You're better off not getting the video slots. I wish I'd never discovered them. I used to avoid them because I could never figure out which line paid what, now, after years of playing them, I've figured out they are all different, so I don't even try to figure out the lines, you only need to know what sends you into bonus. It's getting to the bonus that keeps you playing. Even if the bonus only pays 34 cents of the 75 cent you bet, you went into bonus! See, I know these things, and yet we play on. Video poker is where we win/limit losses.

I have this nightmare where I'm at this buffet, that is spread out over a couple of acres. As I pick out food, I find better/different selections at the next station. I lose where I'm sitting, and by the time I get to the table, the food is cold, and tastes like cardboard. The last time I had this dream, I woke up realizing that pretty much sums up most or my buffet experiences.
