RGJ has an article about an expansion of Thunder Valley Casino near Sacramento.

http://news.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070615/NEWS18/70615009/1321/NEWS

They are adding more gaming, a 650-room hotel, two ballrooms, a performing arts center and additional parking. Thunder Valley opened in June in 2003, and it had an immediate effect on the economy of gambling in Reno.

I visited the first week they opened, and decided not to return unless they had better gambling conditions. I still receive mailers every couple of months trying to get me to come back. The fact they are adding a hotel means they may attract more visitors from out of the area that might travel to Reno. ?? What do you think?

It's unfortunate that this ripoff burn joint can attract visitors who are too lazy to make the short drive over the hill to some real casinos.

On a recent Reno trip, I made the trip over to Thunder Valley just to renew my contempt for the place. Three dollars plus tip for valet parking, no real blackjack in the whole casino -- but I got a coffee mug for signing up for a player's card. Wow!

I'm hoping that as the Northern CA economy continues to tank due to housing, fuel, food, (those things that are left OFF the inflation calculator), that the disposable income feeding these daily clip joints will dry up.

How does this help Reno? It will return to the destination (monthly) visit for Norther CA's as it used to be.
