4/19<<<<<<<<

we land in Reno after circling the airport 3 times. I can see its snowing outside! something we never see in San Antonio. We get the rental car and the rental cars plates say TEXAS on it...go figure. So we dive down 395 headed for Tahoe..I take my digicam out and start taking pics. We get through Carson City and my cam says "lens error" and shuts off. I thought maybe the batteries needed replacing so we pull over to where one of those emergency phones are. So we get out,pop the trunk and replace the batteries. Sad to say it wasn't the batteries. This is one of the reasons I bought this cam cause I know how beautiful lake Tahoe is. So a couple of minutes in Nevada and im bummed cause my cam doesnt work...but I got my trusty cell phone cam with 1.3 mp! We arrive at Montbleu...easy check in. I asked about additional charges to the room like the other guys trip report and they said no, so I dont know how or why they screwed you like that. We actually got an upgrade on the room too. Really liked the jetted tub!

The view from the room was awesome..we had lake side view. Room was clean and the 2 queen size beds had down pillows and down comforters. We dumped everything off and headed down to the casino. I always look for "casino carpet" every time I walk into a casino which i never have been in...kinda weird huh? anyways montbleu has some really neat carpet...very colorful. The casino itself is kinda small or medium size but its easy to navigate and its not confusing. We play a little then headed for the other casinos. After playing we decided just to drive down the road to look for something to eat. We are committed to not eating at places we got at home so we find this restaurant called "Tep's Villa Roma"

Food was really good..not great. they sat us next to the fire place and the service was excellent. I would defiantly go there again when I go back to tahoe sometime in the future. We go back to montbleu and play some more then head back to the room..we are dead tired...its been a long day.

I wake up really early for some reason and so does my wife. we head down to the starbucks and get some coffee. We then hit the casino missed from last night,Horizon. After about 30 min of losing, we had enough and go to these "going out of business" shops. We ask why they are going out of business and the lady tells us that they are building a convention center...kinda sad. We buy a few things and head over to Heavenly. We eat at Wolfgang pucks before we hit the Gondola. I first hit a ski shop to buy some gloves cause we didn't know how much colder it was going to be up there. We pay the 28$ a piece to ride this thinking how pricey that was but looking back now i think that was a steal! Too bad I didn't have my digi cam or the pics I took from the top would have came out much nicer!

this is on top of the mountain where we got to do some tubing. a winter wonderland!!

We head back down with big smiles...you have to be here to truly appreciate the beauty of this place. We head out to Carson city to the casinos there. We saw several but only hit 2 of them. Carson nugget and catus jacks? after that we headed over hwy 395 and found a Wal-mart. Went inside and bought the same exact camera when had broken. I had my receipt since I only bought it 3 weeks from another walmart in Texas. So I basically traded it in and got a new one...I didn't know walmart worked like that but pretty cool I get to take good pics now. We head back into Tahoe and go to a place called "Izzys" not bad...it was ok. We go back and play in Harrah's...holy crap is this place busy! too many people...cant play the games we want to play so we head back to the much quieter montbleu. Dont know how well this place is doing but I hope they dont shut it down...its really nice.

I gotta go....continued later

*continue*

Waking up I was excited about driving around the lake. We planned to make it a day trip not knowing how long it would take. So now I got my good cam and first place we stop is a little place not too far from stateline.

reso is huge 3000+ you can see the hotel/casinos in the background.

right after this we head over to emerald bay. wow is this place gorgeous!

more pics..emerald bay

after that we hit up this restaurant...im pretty sure it was before tahoe city on the left side. amazing mexican food!

after we ate we drove a litte while till we got to the north shore stateline and played in this casino
http://i12.tinypic.com/2l9jz1w.jpg
where my wife got lucky and won 250 off a monopoly machine! we cashed out and went to the biltmore across the street. once we were done with the biltmore we started seeing some snow falling...more like flurries i guess. By the time we got back to the hotel, 6 hours have passed. We rested then took off to reno.

We arrived in Reno about the time it was getting dark...got off hwy 80 and the parked at the Circus...I see why they call this place a Circus! I never been in a Circus Circus...I avoided the one in Vegas. This place was packed! tons of little kids running around..didn't like that. We also got confused with the layout on how there are 3 casinos connected to each other but never new which one we were in until we looked at the slot chairs. Each casino was just packed! We were hungry so we ate at the fresh express food court at the silver lagacy...doesn't express mean fast? It took nearly 25 minutes of waiting in line to finally get our food. this place was so unorganized it had 2 separate lines for ordering but most people including myself didn't see the stupid signs...we all just formed one line. it was a mess there. So the chef handed me my deluxe buger..I was just standing there and the meat w/bacon slid off and hit the floor! he gave it to me at an angle and it just slid off cause of all the grease. after that happened I heard the cashier yelling at a customer about the line...as if there was a separate pay line? I dont know but we were a little irritated about the whole expierence.....the food was good though. After eating I just wanted to get the hell out of that place..We get on the street and ahhhhh fresh air! I start taking pics

the most famous sign in the world
http://i13.tinypic.com/2gwaqz8.jpg

We walk into the Fitz...I liked it but it seemed to be very smoky...like the vents wernt working or just didn't have good vents..nonetheless I had a good time in this casino. played a game in the nugget then headed over to cal-neva...I really liked this one the best.

http://i10.tinypic.com/2djqazr.jpg

went to a couple more on the way back....didn't feel safe walking the streets at night. Too many cars booming their rap music and too many thugs on the streets. I don't remember seeing a police patrolling the area. By the time we left downtown it was 1am. We wanted to check out the peppermill and atlantis. We really liked the peppermill when we entered it but thought the layout of the casino was confusing for the first timer. I think it was all those damm mirrors! We liked this place. Then it was off to atlantis. Liked the layout, easy to navigate for the first timer. Since I lost my ass off in Reno I wasn't really in the mood to play any more slots but my wife found me a slot and she put her 15$ voucher in and told me to play it. I sat down and nearly an hour later I cash out at 170$ I probably could have kept build it up but I was so damm thirsty! not once did anyone come by and ask me for a drink. We were tired so we cashed that out and left. Its about 3am now and we got a long drive ahead.

We have a temp gage in the car and we notice its 41 when we left reno and its now 35 leaving carson...it starts to rain. we drive nearly 30 minutes in heavy snow..well to us its odd cause we have never driven in snow...so to say the least it was scary as hell haha. We took it slow and thank god we made it back in one piece! By the time we got back it was 430am. We stood out side the hotel looking like little kids trying to catch snow in our mouths...it was awesome to see this much snow falling.

As for Reno I probably will never go back unless I land there and go to Tahoe. I didnt like Reno at all...Ill go to Vegas instead

4/22<<<<<<<<<<

This is the day we sleep in...we didn't get up till noon. We get out and head down to the 20four restaurant in the hotel. This was the day we were suppose to go to Reno but plans changed. We decided to do Heavenly again. We get there and they just closed shop cause of lightening at the top. We were bummed. We decided to stop by the lakeside inn casino just to see what it was all about. Played a couple and left. As we walked outside it starting snowing! We decided to follow where the snow was coming from so we head out on HWY 50 towards cali. We pass the interchange where 50 cuts off to HWY 89. We went about 2 miles passed that and found a little park with a pond.

http://i19.tinypic.com/4lhncqg.jpg

we stayed here for a while...I took a lot of pics and my wife found some pinecones.

After this we went back to the hotel and cleaned up...played a few slots then headed over to Swiss Chalet. This is right across the street from Izzys on HWY 50. It was pricing but the food was good and they had awesome german beer!
http://i15.tinypic.com/4mkocjm.jpg

knowing this would be our last night we headed over to harrahs and casino hopped till we were tired. We both knew it was our last night and we would have to wake up early to catch our plane. I dred moments like this....you know time at this place has come to an end. You made many memories and theres a little piece of you that wants to stay.

4-23<<<<<<<<

We wake up and get ready right away..its 9am. We gas up in carson since they have the cheapest gas at 3:13! We eat at a place called Del Taco which we dont have here in Texas. It was a lot better than tacobell. We drop our car off and head over to the airport....Im sad. I really had a good time in Lake Tahoe and will return there some day...I wife agrees. We land in San Antonio at 8pm Tahoe time

JohnTS71,

Hey thanks for the great trip report. Glad you enjoyed the Reno/Tahoe area and that the "Bleu" didn't take you for a ride. Say, did you happen to join any players clubs at the casinos while you were there? If so, Montbleu is the one you'll probably be getting the most comps/offers from. Glad you got to check out the Horizon too (the machines used to be a lot looser than they are now, but I just started getting comps from them again, so not really complaining...)

You really lucked out, because Heavenly closed just 2 days after you left (although they got a couple of massive snowfalls from what I hear...go figure...it happens like that every season!) If you go again during the season, try skiing or snowboarding. Right behind where you were tubing is Adventure Peak, where they have top level instruction. Plus, if you get a lift ticket, that includes everything, gondola, lifts, and tube rides. Looks like you got a partial view of The Umbrella Bar in that photo...best Red Bull & Vodkas anywhere! Yeah, Heavenly is very nice, I've been getting season passes there for the last few years, there's just so much to see and do.

The "Going Out Of Business" shops seem to have come and gone at random but from what I hear they are beginning the construction on the convention center very soon. It's good you got to see that area beforehand, believe it or not, from what I hear, ten years ago the whole place was like a ghetto. You definitely wouldn't know it now!

Anxious to read the rest of your trip report, be sure to post soon. Glad your camera phone was able to be exchanged. Wal-Mart rules!
