I bear no grudge against Peppermill. I am happy to try to take as much of its money and freebies that I can, like any other casino. But I am disappointed -- I thought Peppermill was classier than to treat a patron in the shabby manner I previously reported:

http://www.thebeargrowls.com/?p=69

I try to schedule my trips five or six months at a time, the usual maximum advance time Southwest allows flights to be booked. Then I wait to get my free room mailers for each particular month, and use the ones that expire in the shortest time, to waste as few as possible.

I'm booked at Grand Sierra and Eldorado next trip -- I will be sure to eat plenty of free food at Peppermill while not a hotel guest there; I will stay at Peppermill and I think Siena the trip after that -- I won't expect any Peppermill comps except the free room nights. My hotels are not yet reserved for trips after that. The mailers for those months haven't all been received yet.

I try to use mailers whenever possible to avoid wasting banked players club points on room comps.

So do you ever write trip reports? You should. We would love to hear about your trips to Reno.

Does the Pep ever send you the free play offers? They are pretty good about sending those every couple of months. I dont know what level player you are. I usually get an offer for $150.00 free play when they send them.

I do sometimes. I worry about posting trip reports because of possibly accidentally providing too much information so an alert casino employee could identify me. I found a couple of very old ones in the archives, apparently moved when there were some technical changes on this board:

Yes, usually $200 or $300 of free play that I quickly run through on a video poker machine in the high-limit slot area.

My stakes have increased over the years. When I was a beginner back in 1999, much less-skilled than I am now, I was a red-chip grinder with a max bet of only $100. As I became more confident in my abilities, I increased to green-only play. After a couple of years with max bets in the $200 to $300 range, my max bet is now the table maximum at most Reno stores. I would prefer not to be more specific.

Hi Alison,
I know how you feel....seems like forever since we've been to Reno (6 mo. ago). We've been counting the days until our mini Spring vacation and it's almost here....woohoo!

We'll be in Reno on the 12th for 3 fun-filled days & nights at the Fitz. And once again I will be playing in the slot tourney. I can't wait to get there!
I've been saving all my quarters for my fav machine and also plan to give the penny slots a try for the first time.

Good luck to you on your next trip......hope you win big!

alison, that is a long way off. My trips never are planned that far out. I just kind of put together a trip no more than two weeks ahead. I look at my offers, what I HAVE to do at home, and if it looks ok, away I go. Getting a room never seems to be a problem. If they say they are booked, they usually have some last day cancelations, and they look at my play- I got a room.

I am thinking of a trip to North Tahoe next week. I got some free play and dining that are going to expire.

It helps when you live 4 hours away by car, and I have a 4 wheel drive pickup for the winter. My trips also are never more than 2 nights, and most of the time only one.

I will probably be in Reno or Tahoe 4 or 5 times before you make it. Very Happy

CaSwede,

We haven't been since February, but have a "family" trip booked for April 19th-21st.

My MIL and BIL are coming in from Spokane, my brother is coming in from KC, my sis, daughter and son are joing R and I from here in Davis. So that makes 8. We're staying at the Fitz for two nights.

Since 5 of these folks have no Cal Neva player's card, we're going to hook them up for the $200 free slot play. The site says they will give you up to $200 of your losses back in slot play, or double the winnings up to that. sounds good, let's see how it really works. Also, they give the new players a $10 dining coupon for an hour's play, which is good in their "nicer" restaurant. So, we'll be spending a little time at the Cal Neva that weekend.

Good luck in the tournament, PEB! See what you can find out about the upcoming changes from the rumor mill there!

Ok here is some honesty. I and the wife took our 2 kids to Disneyland last week for spring break. When we got home I said "Next trip is for us to Reno without kids". Yesterday i got online and checked airfare.

SW is cheapest with about $340 for the two of us roundtrip. Here is my problem - Even with free rooms courtesy of Fitz I have to question - Is it worth $340 to fly to dumpy old Reno.

Or should I spend $30.00 to drive to the Oregon casinos twice and save that $340.00 for our winter trip to Mexico.

I am leaning to saying no to Reno. After our last trip (which we came home a little ahead) I think I will not return. Downtown is so dumpy. The casinos are threadbare and like ghost towns. Customer service was nothing special. I am not sure why I should spend the money.

This hurts me to say all this because I used to love Reno.

Please someone talk me into going !!!!

Reno gives you a much better deal than the mostly ripoff Indian casinos. Reno and other parts of northern Nevada are the last bastions of decent table games. It is home to many casino personnel who are not greedily clamoring for you to lose every last penny as quickly as possible, so the next sucker can take over your seat.

Reno still offers good value with easy comps for even low-level action. For those who don't exploit the comp system and actually pay for the amenities, there are decently-priced rooms, food, and entertainment.

Though I dislike the casino industry as a whole, I like Reno. Reno casinos, with the obvious exception of the despicable Harrah's, are not as greedy as their blood-sucking counterparts in other destinations, particularly Las Vegas and most Indian casinos.

People need to support Reno, or it will fade away, and all we will have left is the ripoff joints.
