Peppermill Reno recently changed to an MGM-type comp system if you are a comped hotel guest.

The player's club no longer issues food comp slips if you are a comped hotel guest, and they immediately know you're a hotel guest when you present your player's card. The patron is told that the meal must be charged to the room, and it will be "evaluated" by VIP Services at checkout. The sleazy part of the system is that the host's food comp decision appears to be based solely on tracked action given on the current trip, and ignores the comp balance on the player's card from previous trips. One player with a four-figure comp balance was recently denied reasonable food comps because of "insufficient play" on that specific trip.

Perhaps shorting patrons on comps is Peppermill's way of helping pay for its large expansion. I always thought Peppermill was a classy, well-run casino despite its absolute intolerance of patrons using their brains on its premises. I obviously was wrong in thinking it is classy or well-run. I hope this short-sighted, stingy new policy costs Peppermill many high-end patrons. I hope the cheapskate who implemented this policy is soon looking for other employment.

I have also publicized this patron mistreatment on my blog, www.TheBearGrowls.com

Did this actually happen to you? Or was this word of mouth?

I cannot publicize the name of the victim. More specifics might enable the casino to identify me by association. However, I do not publicize casino wrongdoing merely on "word of mouth." I personally witnessed the incident. I am unable to say more.

i was not asking for names, just if you actually had this happen to you or if it was word of mouth.

i have never come across this problem. the last time we were there my friend had comps left over and had no problem using them. i still love the Pep.

The change in the comp system was made recently. Though it is entirely possible that the particular victim was singled out for mistreatment because of being a skilled patron, the new system is patron-unfriendly to all. It creates the uncertainty of not knowing if expected comps are going to be honored. I would prefer to know that my meals are comped rather than rely on the integrity and good will of a casino employee to make that determination after the fact.

Another new hassle this stupid policy creates is the necessity of physically making an appearance in VIP Services when departing, rather than simply leaving as is normally done. If a patron might have to argue or haggle over charges that should be automatically comped, it necessitates a visit to VIP Services and a confrontation with a host that would otherwise be unnecessary.

i guess i am just lucky. I have an "unamed source" who works there and I can just call him to take care of everything. He treats us well. Smile

I have been going to the Pep for about 5 years. I remeber way back when, you had to go into VIP services and talk to them about getting charges taken off. I dont think this is anything new. Maybe if your in good with your host, they will just evaluate it and save you the trip down there. Thats my experience anyways. Its just taken care of. I dont usually even have to call. I just do to thank him.

I had no issues at all on a recent trip. Played hard in early March during a 3 night stay.

Then a week later was at the pepp for a one-night business trip. Told host I was not going to be playing much at all and he comped dinner for 4 in the steak house and breakfast for 4 the next morning.

Of course he said charge it to the room, but also stated that I had more than enough comps to cover it.
