I just wanted to alert everyone to what I think is the best birthday offer anywhere to those that have a slot card at the Lakeside Inn. First of all, this offer is good for the birthday month - not just on your birthday. They will give you: a free T-shirt, water bottle, $5 in free slot play, two $2 table game coupons, Keno coupon, free cocktail, and a free meal. The free meal is capped at $8.95, however, that is good enough for their prime rib complete dinner. At $8.95 that prime rib dinner is a real bargain. I seldom eat red meat, but this is an excellent dinner.

Other comments: Room rates are about half of what they want at the other casinos at the south shore. They have a $2.99 breakfast special. I don't know why they call it Lakeside, as it is certainly not on the Lake. If you are over 55 (old guy), they will give you a free breakfast. It is limited to one every two months, but free is free. The bars offer some good beers on tap- not just the bud/coors/miller stuff. The walk from Lakeside to the Horizon is about 10 minutes. The video poker is much better at the bar downstairs vs. the upstairs main bar. If you look hard around the casino, you can find 99.95% VP on the floor. Yes, I like the place. Very Happy

I like the Lakeside too. We've stayed there several times and found it to be a very good value. The rooms are not deluxe but they are comfortable and reasonably priced. Most are motel style which have the disadvantage of being detached from the casino but the advantage that you can drive right up to your door. The pool and adjacent hot tub area are small but served their purpose.

The casino offers most of the popular games, with table limits and gaming conditions that are usually better than you find in the main casino district. There is also a small sports book on the lower level, but no poker as of the last time we were there. Walking to the other casinos is easy and driving is just a straight shot down the main highway. For other entertainment they sometimes had a band playing.

When we stayed there for a ski weekend they had a free shuttle bus to Heavenly and discounts on lift tickets through the hotel desk. I don't know if they still have that this year but I don't see why they wouldn't. There's a liquor store right next door for those who prefer a few adult beverages in the room.

All in all it's a good compromise between the big hotels and those little, run down tourist motels that abound in the area.

Hi,

Yes the Lakeside is awesome. In addition to the tips everyone has talked about and provided, also be sure to check out the 7.99 prime rib dinner at the Timber House Restaurant (it may have gone up slightly since last year) and also try the Taberna Mexican restaurant. They have burritos that will literally take you 3 days to eat (try the Super Mario burrito, everything but the kitchen sink)

The adjacent liquor store that Remano pointed out is called Dart Discount Liquors. This is the place to go for everything in that area, they have very cheap 2 liter drinks and snacks. It beats walking or driving down to the convenient stores on the CA side or to Raley's supermarket which is way down the road.

Some people scowl on this place because it's not in the main corridor with the rest of the casinos and is definitely not as glitzy, but this is considered one of the "local casinos" there and you'll get great customer service and better payouts than at the others. Also, they offer $2 drinks, ANYTHING, any quantity at their bars. Play VP at the main bar and drink for free! They do still have the shuttle to Heavenly and also sell discounted lift tickets to Heavenly, Squaw, Kirkwood and Sierra at Tahoe.
