Today I got the chance to check out the Peppermill's new sports book that opened about a week ago. This has got to be one of the best (if not THE best) places in town to watch a game. Located on the south side of the casino, where you used to be able to enter from the parking lot, it is large and open and finished in typical Peppermill neon gaudiness. There is an almost theatre-sized screen to each side of the betting counter, and 45 or 50 other wide screen TV's to watch. There appeared to be plenty of tables and about 40 desks with individual monitors for the race crowd. If you get thirsty, there is a new, elevated circular bar a few steps away.

One disappointment was that the bar top Jacks or Better VP short-paid the royal flush at the nickel level, returning only 2500 credits on a 5 credit bet. The quarter level and higher paid 4000, as do the nickel games at the other bars in the casino, at least for now.

The closest food service was the little coffee bar near the hotel desk, but there is an area still under construction that looks perfect for a snack stand. Guess I should have asked someone if that's what it was for,but time will tell.

Did you see any of the casino expansion they were working on?

So what is now located where the old sports book was?

I don't know all of their plans, but at least part of the sports book is in an expanded area. They seem to have moved the south wall several feet into what used to be parking lot to gain more floor space at that end. What used to be a hallway between the hotel desk and main casino is now wide open and full of new slot machines and the sports bar. The boutique store seems to have been expanded and you can walk around it on either side. Construction is continuing on the new tower but you don't notice it from inside the casino.

Right now there's nothing in the old sports book area. The old TV's are still there and operating but they haven't filled in the empty floor space yet or the hole in the wall where the odds board used to be, and they didn't seem to be working on it today.

So is the new sportsbook off the hallway area that runs from the hotel desk to the casino? I am trying to think where it would be?

Because of the expansion it's not a hallway anymore. They've added about 20 feet of floor space all along that end of the building, making it more a part of the casino floor. From the slot club desk walk straight toward the south parking lot and you'll be in the sports book.

THanks REmano for the review. I will be anxious to check it out in March in person. Smile Trying to watch a game at the Silver Legacy & The Eldorado isn't the easiest when you can't get a seat. I have to admit the Neon does give me a bit of a headache after awhile but maybe I just didn't drink enough of the Corona's to take the edge off.
