Wait, I'm confused - so, a couple should honeymoon in Tahoe, then zip down to Reno and get a quickie divorce?

Hawk, you're too kind, but I suspect you'll regret it upon seeing the length of my diatribe over on the "Raise the Rates?!" thread.

Winter in NV sounds like it could be fun, though I guess you'd have to make an effort NOT to gamble every day!

In any case, the skiing at Tahoe must be lovely right around now, but for my money, you just can't beat that little triumvirate of casinos at Crystal Bay at North Lake Tahoe - I sure hope they don't succumb to the malaise of downtown Reno, knock on wood.

There are four casinos but last time I was at Kelly's Nugget only had slots and poker, no other table games so maybe it's 3-1/2 casinos.

Believe it or not, they squeezed in a poker table at the Nugget. I believe it is the only live poker at the North Shore. ?

So, shall we now call it 3-3/4 casinos? Laughing

That's what I was referring to - live poker, not video poker. And I do think it is the only poker on the north side.

Thanks for calling my bluff on inappropriate use of the word "Triumvirate" - I could only recall the Biltmore, the one across the street from the Biltmore, and the Cal-Neva, but my count was rough, and it's been a few years.
I probably should qualify my endorsement of North Lake Tahoe by admitting that I haven't even been to South Lake Tahoe, which technically disqualifies me from making any meaningful comparison - but I do like the outpost feel of that little area, and the action is just big enough to merit an atmosphere of its own without being too big for its britches.

That is fair enough. Since all of a sudden we seem to be talking about North Lake Tahoe, I will go ahead a give a few impressions. The nicest place by far is the Crystal Bay Club. They have really cleaned up the place, added new machines TITO, and they bring in some great bands almost nightly. They have a nice set up for listening, and the bands play a lot of new and original stuff. A much younger crowd at Crystal Bay over the rest of the places.

The Biltmore is nice, but it is getting a little old. They need to do some work in there, but they have a really nice bar upstairs. Room rates are really cheap, and include a full breakfast. They also bring in free entertainment- mostly cover bands.

Cal-Neva is also very old looking. They are working to change it over to timeshares or condos, so don't expect many changes here. Room rates are high, and it is kind of a dead atmosphere in the evening.

The Nugget is just a tiny place, with old machines, dirty rest rooms, but they have a huge selection of very fine beers. If you are into rare beers, this is the place.

I have to be in Sacramento next week, and I was thinking about taking an extra day off and staying a night at the Biltmore. Or- I may head over to Reno.....we will see. Choices are good. Cool

The Tram is a cool ride, but I think it closes after they shut down the ski runs. They reopen for the summer crowd, but I believe in April (that is when you are going?), it may be closed. It was closed last year during my early spring visit. Maybe someone else knows for sure.

The boat ride? It is kind of a must do deal for the first time visitor. I have been on the one you mentioned, and also Mont Bleu had their own private boat that I have been on twice. That was about a year ago, and the new owners may have sold it off. ??
