hi,
I have not stayed here yet. I do know that is across the street from the lake. The same side of the road as harrahs.

Chek out www.tripadvisor.com and read the user reviews on it.

This hotel used to be Ceasar Hotel. It was purchased last year and remodel. Have not stay at this place since it was renamed.
prior to being married, I stayed at this hotel and had a nice round bed with mirrors on the ceiling, also large circular bathtub next to bed, so let your imagination go. Embarassed oh my single days Cool
If you stay at this hotel, make sure you take movie pictures and put in on you tube. naw just kidding. keep it to yourself. But you do need to make a picture show for Reno, since everyone gave you advise, and then you went to Vegas. Sad

Hey John,

I would definitely recommend it.

I have not yet stayed there, but was in Tahoe the weekend it "opened up" in March of last year. They had been doing tons of construction and everything was still in a shambles so I'm sure it's alot better now.

I'd say they reworked more of the inside than the outside, it still looks like Caesars until you walk in. When I was there, everything was empty, including half the casino, although one of the new bars, complete with a fire pit in the middle, was open. I'm not sure if you were ever at Caesars Tahoe but over the years, they only got "so-so" reviews at the Tahoe location in comparison to the other Caesars properties (before Harrahs acquired them). Lots of complaints about bad customer service, trashed rooms, bad plumbing, noise, smoke, etc. Things you'd say anywhere I'd say, but they were really evident here.

Fortunately, Harrah's didn't get to acquire this property as they own 3 others on the block - Harrahs Tahoe, Harveys Tahoe and Bills Tahoe. Instead, the Columbia Sussex company purchased them, who also owns the Horizon right across the street (the Horizon WAS my favorite place to be there, won big, spent alot of $$, but after their remodel last year not too far after Montbleu's, they really started getting bad with their comps, you used to be able to get a totally free ride there, now you have to be a gold player! That remodel must have cost them a fortune!). But back to Montbleu, after the acquisition, there was 100% turnaround and everything supposedly got better. Based on tripadvisor reviews and their new website, now the place looks and sounds fantastic.

It's not on the lake side, although you could probably have a lake view if you asked for it. It definitely is now rated at 4 stars. So far, their players club (the Cobalt Players Club) has been sending me excellent mailers and comps over the past year (I'm talking your choice of 2 free nights any day of the week, $50 food credit, etc.) which is kind of surprising because I haven't actually played there yet...my account transferred over from Caesars and even then hit had almost no points on it. On the other hand, maybe they're doing it there because the Horizon isn't anymore! I'm keeping my fingers crossed hoping they will send me more comps for my January trip because I'm not getting hookups anywhere else!

I would call them to see if you can sign up for their players club before your trip to get the coupons coming. I do know that right now they are still "introducing" the place which may also be why they're being so generous with the comps. The tripadvisor reviews are usually pretty accurate although everybody always has their opinion. Also keep in mind that it's an easy walk to Heavenly Village and Gondola, where "everything's at." The only thing I'm bummed about is that they took out the Subway inside (it was open til 5 am!)

Check their website if you haven't already, it's www.montbleuresort.com
It may be worth seeing if they have any honeymoon-type packages. This winter I'm going to be utilizing their yacht to get me across the lake to some of the snowboard resorts on the north side of Tahoe.

wow thanks for all the info! you really took a lot of time to write all that...great info! My fience went through a list of places at lake tahoe and came up with monte bleu as one. others on the list didnt have a casino which is an added plus for us since we enjoy gambling together.

I just might take your advice and call them..we are going the week of march 19th! Im guessing its going to be cold? we are from the south so we arent use to cold weather...should we expect snow?

thanks

I have been by a few times since the change over. I did another walk through about 2 weeks ago, and most of the remodeling is done. They are trying to attract a younger crowd now, and have given up on anyone with a gray hair. It is more of a hip place now, with night clubs and fancier updated food places. The music is certainly more up to date also, (and louder). Maybe this is your thing, but it is not for me.

I used to be a good customer of Caesars. I used to always stay free, free food, concerts, special events etc. Since the takeover, I have received one mailer with only standard web page prices for rooms. I think they saw that I am over 50 and that is not who they are targeting anymore. That is OK with me, as the gambling conditions are very poor now compared to when Caesars had the joint. I don't want to sound like I am bitter, as the divorce was amicable. Very Happy We have just grown apart. Smile

I have heard that they have done very little to change the rooms. I was always upgraded to a spa room, and they were very nice. I have no complains about the rooms at Monte Bleu.

Honeymoon?? Well I guess it would work, but here is another place that might be better...??? Or at least a choice:

I drive by the Fantasy Inn everytime I drive to south shore. It is located in California, and I believe it is about -near hwy 50 and ski run Blvd. So, it is maybe 2 miles from stateline, and all the casinos.

Another idea is the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe. This is located at the north shore and is very nice. They have a casino and the accommodations are excellent. It is on the lake and just beautiful. The casino is nice (not as big as south shore casinos), and they own a private sand beach (rare at Tahoe). It is my favorite place to stay at the Lake.

Now as far as your question about snow in March, it is impossible to give you an answer. Most of the snow will be gone, but it could snow, or it could be quite warm. The weather in the high Sierra Nevada Mountains can be unpredictable. There is a good chance snow will not be an issue for you, but you will certainly see snow on the mountains around the Lake.

John, no worries man, Stateline has been like my second home for the past 3 winters...all the way from Florida...

The weather there is fickle, it can be beating down sun one hour and dumping 8 feet of snow the next hour. Bring lots of layers and be prepared for anything. If you're skiing or snowboarding or hiking the sun is hot up there even in the dead of January, sunscreen is pretty crucial. This past year it almost seemed like it snowed more in March than it did in January.

If this is your first trip out there, consider some of the other casinos too. Harveys and Harrahs are closest to the village/downtown (Horizon & Montbleu are next to them, but on the other side, so staying at either one of those would be a bit further of a walk). The Lakeside Inn is a local type place down the road a bit (still walkable) and is often cheaper than the others, good prime rib and 10 times odds on craps. Lakeside and Horizon are really good on slots and craps, cheaper too than the others. It may help to check the websites directly, even if you're not in a players club, you can often get pretty good rates booking direct with them. Everybody's got their own little thing so watch out for any additional booking charges/credit card holds/etc. Consider the casinos before any of the non-franchised (in that area, rat-trap) motels that may be in your list...most of 'em are on those side streets behind the casinos and are shady. Not to mention that usually you can find a rate just as good at one of the casinos. If you're looking to stay directly on the lakeside/beach there are a couple of good places, The Royal Valhalla and Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge.

Oh yeah, the Fantasy Inn, as CaSwede suggested, forgot about that place, it's down the road a bit from the casinos, my folks went 2 years ago for their 50th anniversary and had a blast. Themed rooms from what I hear.

Hey- your getting a lot of good advise. I found a link to these pictures up at the Hyatt. I think they are pretty cool, even if you are not interested in the place:

By the way if this will help here are some url's for all the south shore/stateline casinos:

www.harrahstahoe.com
www.harveystahoe.com
www.montbleuresort.com
www.horizoncasino.com
www.lakesideinn.com

Also the north shore area CaSwede is speaking of is very nice, haven't stayed there yet, only passed thru to go snowboarding, seems alot quieter than the south shore.
