I just noticed today that the Club Cal Neva is now offering 6:5 "blackjack." There was one table with it in the Center Street casino, could be more open when the casino's busier. As in other places, there were 4 sheep playing for 6:5 while nearby tables with better odds had many open seats. Maybe this has been there for a while and I just didn't notice it, but if the trend continues the Cal Neva will join the Silver Legacy, Eldorado and Harrah's as casinos where I won't play.

Thats sad to hear about the CalNeva. I've always thought of them as an old time reno casino. I'm with you though, if they're gonna offer that then I wont play there either. But the real problem is the "FOOLS", "SUCKERS" or as you put it sheep that keep playing that rip off game.

I am shocked that the Cal Neva would go that route. I always thought of them as looser than the competition, because they sure were not fancier than the competition. The only show you get at the Cal Neva is the occassional drunk being thrown out by security. They got rid of the single zero roulette wheel, are scaling back their blackjack, and got rid of their Choo-Choo loose dollar machines, what is next? Downtown is going to kill themselves yet, no matter how many kayakers and artists they can attract. What makes it happen are the gamblers, and without good payoffs, you will lose the people that repeatedly come back, no matter the weather on the summit.

Anybody curious about how much they care? What would happen if a lot of people went to
http://www.clubcalneva.com/contact.php
and sent them a complaint? I just did it myself. Felt pretty good. Of course, I didn't tell them I'm not a blackjack player. Twisted Evil

Man....for me the Cal Neva was once the defining Reno experience! They gave us Canadians fantastic deals and I spent almost all my "Reno" time there. They've been going downhill for about seven or eight years now. Does anyone have any insight into this phenomenon?

Spinner, your comments are right on! The Cal Neva's raison d'etre was their liberal payouts. They don't offer much else besides a basic gambling hall atmosphere and if we can get the same odds, deals and comps in nicer surroundings we're going to go to those places instead.

I clicked on John's link and vented upon them. That'll fix 'em.

Gawd, say it ain't so, Cal-Neva!
Don't become the Cal-Never!

You shallow managers; you've left a scar on this great casino! And she was once so beautiful - but what man would want her now??!!

Criminal. Next thing you know the Benny Binion's kids will close the 'Shoe's quarter craps pit and sell what's left to Harrah's. Er wait....

I think that we should be happy that we got to live in a time when we could remember the Reno that was. I still am upset about the Harold's Club, Nevada Club and Mapes demise. I also remember the side of Virginia from the Fitzgerald's to the Mapes Money Tree that did not have all T-Shirt Shops in between. I think that the Nugget is the only thing that has stayed constant on that West side of Virginia St. We might have lost the "little guy" owner of the casinos, and now we can buy casino corporate stock, but we lost so much of the individuality that was so much fun in those days. At present, we are headed to seeing corporate casinos, with the same crappy rules on games, the same desire to get the required percentage from the players, and no room for different and fun casinos. If the Cal Neva runs off the players due to bad gaming rules, it will be just another empty building with memories for us all to talk about. And another set of managers that will point the finger to Indian Gaming, when really the reason is that their greed pushed them to the end.

Well i've heard no response so far from the CalNeva. Doesn't surprise me any though. I will be shocked if they write back.

Say it isn't so!?! Dang I wouldn't have ever guessed that one. Still can't believe that people are dumb enough to sit down and play at one of those tables. I guess if you are the Casino and you offer both types of tables and some people would rather get paid 6/5 on BJ more power to them.< I don't really believe that and I am definitely going to the thread to voice my opinion. If they do in fact respond please make sure to share it with us and I will surely do the same. Cal Neva..............of all the places. Oh the things we have all seen at that Casino through the years. We can't lose that place guys! Shocked

Hey folks isn't this just a damn joke? What happened to the $.49 Ham'n Eggs, $1 Beers and old fashioned Reno Fun? Has the Cal-Neva management lost it's ever loving minds?

Apparently the Casino's have a ample supply of ignorant BJ players, so they screw'em all. Look at the table Minni's in these joints now days. Again the Casino's apparently don't need the everyday Joe's money.

We have a trip planned for New Years Eve and it looks like the only reason to go down town will be to play at the Sienna. (That's if it is still around) We most likely will try the Nugget in Sparks, if their BJ has not gone into the gutter. Our other most likely choice will be the Western Village in Sparks. Damn.......the WV might be the only joint in the area that welcomes every day normal people. Gee'z I hope they haven't screwed up that place.

Yo Man....................over and out
