Hey Kenofool, - thanks for keeping this old thread alive. Good choices on the casinos. Food too, although I've only had a hot-dog at the Western Village - it was really good and really big. Kinda the "Awful Awful" of hot-dogs. They had several at their little hole in the wall snack bar - I think mine was a "Wrigley Field" dog. |

The Nugget has been running a steak and lobster special for $29.00 at Restaurante Orozko for the last few months. It's excellent. I've had that meal on four occasions and the quality has been consistently great. We usually hit the place between 5:00 and 6:00 and it's very close to empty so the service is fast. If my mysterious Canadian friends get to Reno before the special ends, that's where we're going! |

If it is still going in May (yeah, I know) you can take your mysterious Midwestern friends, too. |

Man that looks good, I didn't even know that restaurant was there. That
must be a 8 or 10oz tail. The last time i was at JA was during street
vibrations in 11. That was one to forget! |

Just to keep it alive...
Fish and chips at the Atlantis' Oyster Bar; once every trip. Prime Rib Grill at the Eldorado. Men Wielding Fire downtown is becoming a favorite.
$1199 25c FP JoB and Big Split JoB at the Pepp.
101% JW and FP DW at the Legacy.
FP JoB at all the Atlantis bars.
FP JoB at Harrah's, when the dancers are moving. |

I'm not sure, but it has a multiplier built in to it. You can change
the payouts by trying different combos before saving it and getting
payed. |

Yeah, I know how the game is played. It's fun, though volatile, which is why you really shouldn't settle for anything less than a full pay schedule. It's $2.50 a hand which is barely in my comfort zone. My minimum bankroll for it is $100. |

newbie here, but a long time lover of Reno.
I thought I would add a few of my favorites around the casinos.
Cal Neva sports book hot dog and beer for $3.50
Plethora of 3:2 black jack tables. Even on $10 and less tables
El Dorado Buffet is pretty dam good
free airport shuttles to all the major casino/hotels.
Over the course of 2 months last summer I stayed at El dorado, Silver Legacy, Circus Circus and Harrahs. For room quality and value, the Circus Circus rooms are an excellent value. I really like the Silver Legacy, and had a great time playing black jack for probably 6 hours. El dorado seems just solid, but I have a hard time gambling there. I don't know why, I think the lighting is too bright, or maybe the table are too congested. Harrahs always disappoints. I think it is the poor attitude of the staff, how tight they are with comps/rewards. The room quality was nice, but the casino area always seems dead. Walk across the street to Cal Neva, and the casino seems so lively.
It seems that some don't like Cal Neva, but I love it. It definately runs the gauntlet of interesting people. But the sports book is the best down town, the table games are probably the most favorable in town, the drink service at the tables is good and the food at the Top of the Deck is perfect some much needed grease and protein at 3 am.
I am planning a trip for first week in April. the lodging value always seems to place me down town. Plus I like being able to get up and walk to a different casino. They all have strengths and different vibes to them. I once at a business training at Ascugua's Nuggett and liked it, but that was 5 years ago. I was wondering how it is now with new ownership.
I get the impression most here play video poker, but I like Black Jack and craps. What should I look for in video poker games?
thanks. Love the forum. |

Welcome! And glad to hear you've become a Cal-Neva fan, too!
I, too, love that place for its reasonable Blackjack, and of course, its unique ambience...many are the pleasant hours I've spent at those tables...
Can't tell you much about video poker, but many others on this board have great input.
Enjoy! |
