Been awhile..
Coming back, haven't been for a long while. Always stayed at the Calneva as never had to pay for a room for years. The last stay at the Calneva I said would be my last as it was so bad and free meant nothing at that point it was such a dive........And then they closed the hotel. I made a call and my old connections said they could get me a great rate next door at Harrahs, we shall see how it go's. Will be 6 of us rolling into Reno April 22nd. I had checked online for rooms anywhere downtown and I cant believe the high price for rooms, why so steep ? We used to hit Reno 3-5 times a year.

The reason they are so high is you haven't been in a while and the quit
sending you comps. We pay for them one way or another. LOL

Yes, you are right I am used to comped rooms. But the online prices seem to be high.

with an entry?

The old, " Sure.....but what have you done for us LATELY?"

If you're in a jam....try Boomtown. I know it's a ways out....but....

I had not been to Boomtown in Years, BUT that Louisiana Themed place (BOURBON SQUARE) that moved into the old Silver Club in Sparks bought the players list. They put me regular comps with very minimal play.

When you get ready to check OUT of Harrah's and your party had any significant play, drop by the hosts' office with your groups' players cards and ask if your group had enough play to get a break before checking out.

You're not in the best bargaining position, but if you don't ask, you won't get.

You can ASK, and not get. But if you never ask.....I know you won't get.

Years ago, I began my trip to be fully comped at the Comstock by sending the cage a "front money" check prior to asking for a credit line. I sent them a few grand and I drew on it from the tables just like a pre paid credit card. Then THEY suggested I just open a credit line which I always promptly paid but got me on all kinds of special lists.

That's probably another spiff that's gone forever too.

Oh....and the old Onslow/ Cal Neva/ Riverboat..... it's all weekly rentals to the down and out club now. I talked to one of the tenants and he SAID there was talk of re furbing one or two floors back to a "NORMAL" nightly tourist hotel. (assuming bed bugs can't run that S l o w elevator.

You'll have to shed your "Slacker" role for this trip, and become whatever the opposite of a "Slacker" is.

Party hardy! And make sure to write up a detailed trip report upon your return!

Im a real SLACKER
I never seem to post a follow up
We came
We had fun
We left..........we will be back

Stayed at Harrahs and did 90% of our gambling at the CalNeva as usual. No huge wins just enough to keep things interesting. Had long islands at the upstairs bar at CircusCircus by the elephants and also had dinner at the restaurant behind the bar (forget name) have eaten there before. About all I remember right now.............

BUT, we are heading back Sept 23rd which is also Street Vibrations so looks like there will be plenty to see and do for the weekend .....Looking forward to another trip, no to far away.

Don't expect to get any deals @ HAN. BUT there;s a good country band playing at Gilley's in the New Sparks Nugget (same location as the old Trader Dick's) Thurs, Fri, Sat night. (Sept 22 - 24)

http://www.nuggetcasinoresort.com/gilleys-en.html

Drop a two dollar bill on the lead singer (Jessie Leigh) and she'll know who sent ya.

IF you hang around a few days AFTER HAN, I will be there too. John knows how to contact me. I'm going to try two weeks without paying for a room again... well, not DIRECTLY paying. But those $ 75 beers are buzz killers.

2 weeks worth of free rooms? Wow, how many nights are booked at the Reno shelter to pull this off? This feat is going to take a lot of planning and hopeful not - a big bankroll.
