As a frequent visitor to LV I thought I'd give reno a try, after all they have gambling and not the high overhead of the strip to offsett so it sounded like a winner. How wrong I was. Reno is the tightest town there is. I can do better at my local INdian Casino! 6-5 bj everywhere and a total lack of winners. It is dumpy dirty and frequented by so many low lifes that it is a bit scary. I stayed at the Silver Legacy- nice room , nice view- food was horrible! Ate at the buffet, sweetwater cafe, and other places and found most of the food bland and some downright gross. The best food I ate was at the California Pizza accross the street. I don't know why anyone would look forward to this place. I tried all the casinos and found none to be very lucky. Talked with others on the way out of town and found their views matched mine. I couldn't shake the dust off my feet soon enough. People wwho worked a t the casinos kept telling me how friendly the place was.......so what? they smile while they rape your wallet. I would urge anyone with thoughts of going here to gamble to think again!!!Viva Las Vegas!

No one here has ever suggested that those who enjoy the glitz of the strip will fall in love with downtown Reno, and I bet if you had won some money on your trip you'd be singing a quite different tune.

Besides, did you completely miss the Atlantis and Peppermill? These two properties are much better-suited to those who want something in between pricey Vegas and downtown Reno.

As for 6:5 blackjack, our posts on this board endlessly remind our dear readers to bypass the Eldo-SilvLeg-Circus triumvirate and head out the doors for nearby Fitzgerald's, Cal-Neva or Sands, where the tables are normal.

"Dumpy, dirty, and frequented by so many low-lifes that it is a bit scary" - so downtown Reno differs from downtown Vegas HOW, exactly??

Sorry you had such an unwinning trip, but our votes still go to Reno, don't they, guys? Guys? Hey, everybody? (insert sound of doors slamming here.)

Yes, go back to your $300.00 hotel rooms, Shitty VP schedules, Even Money BJ, $7.00 beers, and ultra-tight comps on the vegas strip.

Talk about raping your wallet!!!!!!

Hey, Hey, Hey...break it up.

They make chocolate AND vanilla ice cream for a reason.

I like Vegas once in a great while. But I do prefer Reno. No one can dispute the comps are easier, prices cheaper and they WANT your business. Now as to tighness of the machines...I always heard that it was bad luck to be superstitious.

As a low roller by Vegas standards, I like to have my business apppreciated. Plus I like the history of the old west. Old in Vegas means 3 or 4 years!

I think your view is probably a bit tainted by your losses. If you'd won, you would probably be on this board touting how great Reno is. Unfortunately, if we have a losing trip it causes us to put the whole trip in a bad light. Also, 6:5 blackjack is everywhere on the Vegas strip. Where are you playing, on the strip, where there isn't 6:5? I will be sure to post it on other message boards.

Reno's casino's are no tighter than Vegas. It's called gambling, if you expect to win, then you probably shouldn't be doing it. I don't think anyone has stated that downtown Reno is glitzy and pretty and no one should ever compare it to Vegas.

Sorry you had a bad experience, but there's a lot more to Reno than just gambling. It's too bad you didn't get out and experience more of the local flavors.

I happen to love Reno and would rather live there than San Diego, but c'est la vie. Reno doesn't have an overwhelming need for engineers...lol.

I posted this yesterday in another section where dedhd was slamming Reno:

"LOL

Sounds like someone lost some money.

DEDHD is right about one thing, Reno is NOT Las Vegas, it has never claimed to be.

Reno is what it is, and has enough returnees to suggest there's SOMETHING to it.

Different strokes for different folks."

First of all when In LV we stay downtown, usually comped but certainly not for $300/night. Don't know yet if any comps will come from Reno but I doubt they will beas good as LV. We've been invited to NY eve parties, wine tasting parties, birthday parties, all open bar full food and comped rooms-and we are by no means high rollers. Would I sing a different tune if I had won....maybe but probably not. There is nothing to see in Reno-no fountains no showgirls, no free lounge acts, no volcano, not really anything. Ys I did go to Peppermills and the neon was really cool but no value for your dollar there either. Did play bj at Fitzgeralds and the Cal-Nev, did ok, like the low limits so that aspect was good. However there was NO RETURN at all on any slotmachine. I didn't expect to winper se but to just put in money and spin without even a little hit here and there, really frustrating. I think Silver Legacy/ el dorado and others should forget about giving away cars, and the weekly 10k drawing and loosen up the slots. Look at the Progressive jackpot histories, how many do you see hit in Reno?
As for the lowlifes, I'm sorry but when there are bums huddled outside McDonalds asking for spare change, and elsewhere it is kind of depressing.
I'm glad you people enjoy Reno- to each his own I guess.

First off, reno is nothing like Vegas, never claimed to be. It is a completely different vibe.

As far as bums are concerned, you can see them in any major city. Its not just reno. They are everywhere! You must live in a small city somehwhere.

Who needs to see a fake errupting valcano anyways, not me. I am there to gamble. I do much better in reno personally then i do in Vegas. The comps in Reno seem to be more generous then in vegas as well.

I do have to agree with you about the Silver Legacy. I am not found of it at all. I always talk down on the legacy. The eldorado is much nicer in my opinion. Rooms are really reasonable in reno as well.

There have been numerous Progressives won in Reno actually. I am not sure where you are coming up with no one really wins here. Not to mention you need to factor in the number of casinos in Reno compared to Vegas. There is probably 4 times as many if not more in Vegas then reno, therefore you you probably would see a higher % of progressives won in Vegas.

If you are someone who just wants to gamble then reno is great. Reno is not swaped with people which is why i like it. I go to gamble to to look at fancy fountains and volcanos. Yeah if you want all that, then don't come to reno. It is not for you!

dedhd,

I hope you don't think we're all jumping on you, but this is a Reno board, with people who enjoy the town.

As other's have said it's not Vegas, and I don't think anyone has ever said it has the same tourist type casino's as Vegas.

Downtown Vegas is Ok, I've also seen bums down there too, especially if venture outside of Fremont street.

Slots are tight wherever you go. I've had a few winning trips, but for the most part I think they're all tight whether I'm in Reno, Vegas, or at our local indian casino (Rincon). I really don't think one city is any tighter than another. Sometimes you hit, but most of the time you don't.

I LOVE Vegas and usually go there a couple of times a year. I've never compared Reno to it and I'm sorry you expected Reno to compare, but it doesn't. Sorry you think it's a dump, but it's very a very beautiful city, if you get out of downtown.

Ok, Ok, what happens in Las Vegas, stays in Las Vegas. If the "happens" is gambling, then you have the real story. So, what happens in Reno stays in Reno. No big news there.

Las Vegas is the Entertainment Capitol of the World. I will readily admit Reno needs to add some "Bling Bling and Zing" but there is no comparison to the friendliness in most of the Reno Casinos. At least they smile a bit, where as in Las Vegas, they all but toss you on your head to get the loose change out of your pockets. (Well Harrah's Reno does prefer you just throw your money on the floor and get the hell out)

Reno to Gamble, Las Vegas to sight see.

Yo Man.......over and out

Wow, that was an interesting post. I play both Vegas and Reno, and they are different. Did you try BJ at Boomtown? They probably have the best rules in Nevada.

Also, according to the Nevada Gaming Commission, the return to gamblers on slot machines in higher in Reno than Las Vegas. I think you ran into bad luck.

That is fine that you don't like Reno-many don't. I enjoy both places, in fact I was in Las Vegas last week.

See you there.

Or in my opinion ...... many of the bums in LV badger you with porn flyers ...... and the rest ask for change just like the bums in Reno or any other medium/large city. Still sounds like a good deal to me.

Those time share hawkers in Las Vegas kill me, I was there last week and I couldn't get out of a casino without being asked if I would like free money and a free vacation. I realize they have a job to perform but I am on vacation and looking for fun, not a high pressured sales pitch.
