Harrah's and Fairfield Resorts have had some kind of unholy alliance. After one especially active gaming trip to Harrah's, I was inundated with all kinds of Fairfield timeshare pitches.

Then I remembered, when signing up for your "Total rewards" card, you agree that Harrah's "...may share this info with our marketing partners...".

And guess who one of their "partners is (or perhaps was)? You guessed it.

I didn't see all those black and white dressed timeshare slappers (actually INSIDE THE CASINO a few years ago !!) last visit, so perhaps the bloom is off the rose. Neither is Fairfield linked on the HEI website as it used to be. But I will never forgive Harrah's for sharing my gaming/financial info (if you have credit, marker or check privledges) with a timeshare scammer. There are too many other choices that do not pimp out your financial information for a few bucks or a piece of the timeshare ripoff action.

I met Bill Harrah, HEI, Inc. is no Bill Harrah.

JD

Post script: I just checked my "Total Rewards" points. No action for a year...ZERO points. I guess it's just as well, they don't want me, the feeling is mutual.

The Corporate Giant Harrahs, should change the name of their joints to Horrid's. I can no longer stand walking into Horrid's Reno. What a "Suck Joint".

Next Trip planned in April will be to Laughlin (much more like Reno used to be).

Trip in July will be to Lake Tahoe. What in the hell is going on with the room rates in Tahoe? Rates like $200 to $450 per night! Gees, someone slap me and tell me the Horizon is worth $230 a night. Oh well...........just another standard basic screw the gambler rip off.

If this crap keep up, I may find new fondness for the boring Oregon Indian Casinos. Hell, they already have better entertainment.

I will stop whining now.......Craps Junkie......over and out!

Let's not be too hasty to say Reno is just great. I would think that Reno could benefit from better and more visible police downtown. I also think that the train trench project completion will add to the downtown experience. But Reno is not Vegas. Reno has been groping its way through the Indian Casino threat, and the rise of other state gambling. Reno does have its own personality, and Casino Player Magazine monthly has the payoff percentages for each region in the USA and Reno does quite nicely, sometimes the best.

Reno will continue to attract new players due to the proximity to Lake Tahoe, Pyramid Lake, Great Ski resorts and fishing/hiking/etc.

Let's not judge Reno too harshly, it has been around for a long time, and was the place to be in the '50s and early 60's. Reno has hosted Olympic teams and movie stars, but may be a bit past her prime. What Reno does offer is fewer casinos and easier access than places in Vegas. Vegas is just overwhelming to many and much more impersonal than Reno is. Just try flying into the Las Vegas Airport, and you will immediately be immersed in masses of people and vehicles and confusion. Reno is so much nicer. Comps in Vegas are more difficult to get many times, but, as a loyal Peppermill player, they are always happy to welcome me to town and make me feel like a VIP player even though I shudder with fear when I walk near a $5.00 machine.

Take your time and give Reno a try for what it is. It is a wealth of history, and also fun, modern casinos. I find that mixture something that Vegas cannot match, because it is constantly tearing down the history and forgetting about it very soon. Vegas is all about the here and now, while Reno is about the continuity of history, gambling, and the passing of seasons and time.

Spinner: Your assesment of Reno was right-on!!! Reno is so much easier to travel to and much less expensive and when you play at one hotel mostly, you get lots of perks. You can also easily walk to all the downtown casinos. Barb Laughing

Hi there Deadhead (good name, by the way). You want to see a volcano? Well then, by all means COME ON DOWN TO SOUTH CARSON CITY and try The Fandango. They've got a "volcano" rountable and a terrific buffet (if you like that sort of thing).

Been to Vegas and it's a bit overwhelming with all the Glitz and "come and gimme your money" themes. I can't see anyone really having good old fashioned fun. Then again, you want to get glitzed and blitzed, go the The Belagio. It has it all.

Speaking of your local "Indian" casino giving you better returns, have you ventured to Connecticut? Try seedy Foxwoods (THAT's seedy) or UPSCALE Mohegan Sun. Now that's absolute CLASS. Returns????? Mebeeeee, 75%. I say mebbeeee, pardner.

Have you tried the Siena? Have you ventured into the Peppermill? The Atlantis? Three places I see you missed on your visit to Reno. Three best places to go and possibly, I say, possibly, win. Gambling IS gambling. Chances are, be prepared to lose. Those casinos would not be in business if everyone won big all the time. The Gaming Commission's law is that ALL casino's MUST give you at least a return of 75% (minimum). Some places, like the Pepp, Siena or Atlantis give you returns of about 95%. Tables are a bit different. That's the luck of the draw. Hehehehehe. You poor fella; you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Hope you come back and visit the really elegant places in Reno and let us all know how you enjoyed it.

Oddly enough, we have a Harrah's in Shreveport (Horseshoe) and it is one of the best places I've been. They are reasonably loose with comps (a low-baller like me gets full RFB Sunday through Thursday) and have about the best Blackjack rules I've played. Lots of $5 tables, except for heavy traffic times. And the rooms are really nice. Of the four boats in Shreveport, it is by far the best. (Others are El Dorado, Boomtown, and Sam's Place.)

Golly, Gee glad to hear somebody has kind words for Harrah's. I just have to admit that I am a long time Reno vistor, dating to even the last days of Bill Harrah. Harrah darn near single handily changed northern Nevada into a classy and fun destination. World Class entertainers every night at Harrahs Reno, and the grand South Shore Room in Lake Tahoe were the norm. Just outstanding, and gambling was fun and fair. People wandered all over Reno with tubs of coins, drinking and having a ball. The Harrah's Hotel room were special.

Now again I am just speaking for myself, but $5.00 action on the Craps and BJ Tables might get you a yawn. Now don't get me wrong as I am capable of playing and do play much more, but Harrah's just grates on me as they seem to care little about the low-roller action, other than grabbing the money. Rooms now are only fair, entertainment is barely average and food in general has gone from excellent to poor.

Again just stating my opinion, but I am treated far better at other Casino's with good to great comps just for my Craps action. I can't remember the last decent offer I have received from Harrah's. So, I guess you can say I have a rather bias opinion.

Try the Peppermill, Atlantis or even the Western Village. At least you will get a free waffle for breakfast.

Craps Junkie over and out.....

I for one, really like Harrahs. I am not a high roller by any means, but Harrahs always sends me free room offers every month. I get them for Reno or Tahoe. I have also found the service to be great. Harrahs is the only place i stay while in Reno.

food was horrible! Ate at the buffet, sweetwater cafe, and other places and found most of the food bland and some downright gross. The best food I ate was at the California Pizza accross the street.

What do you expect from buffets and cafes? Five star dinning?

Wow didn't know my little rant could emote such a response! Yes i did try peppermills loved the neon but machines were tight. No I was not expecting 5 star dining, but in LV there are cafes where the food is really REALLY good (magnolias veranda for one). As for the time share hawkers... you just wait- see all those closed casinos? I wonder what is going to happen with those...Hmmm?
Anyway the offers have been rolling in and I will say that Reno is very generous with the room offers, except for the Silver Legacy which is where alot of my bankroll went. My wife and I are traveling to LV for new years eve again this year and are toying with spending a night or two in Reno. Not to gamble but because it is a logical stop off point on the Amtrak California Zephyr which we would ride. Why Reno then? because the rooms would be cheaper than any other stopoff point and we could score some cheap airfare.
Oh and Grace, I was talking about Foxwoods which by the way is pretty glitzy and the largest casino in the world, bar none. I guess I should count my blessings, that when I lit out from Reno I wasn't trailed by twenty hounds.
Keep on truckin

Well, Silver Legacy; that may explain some of your losses - I'm one of the few defenders of Silver Legacy as a hotel, but I would much rather gamble at Cal-Neva.

Ooh, I made a funny - The "Silver arm-and-a-leg" - I officially declare today to be a success.

Moderator's note: For once I understood what Stan said. AND, I don't think it was really that funny. Wink
