Took me a few months to re-register, so I've only been lurking, sad there were so few posts, than it hit me, you've been to Reno twice and written nothing!

We went over the last two holidays, MLK and then this last weekend for President's weekend. The first trip was just fair and this last weekend was brutal in gambling.

I'll go over to the Trip Report section and write some general observations from both trips.

We're heading back up at the end of March, meeting several relatives there.

yes

being from texas im sad to say we dont allow casinos here unless you go to corpus christi and take a boat trip way out in the ocean or go to an indian reservation with 2nd rate machines.

my first visit to a decent casino was kaushata in lousiana...its nice and big. 6 hour road trip and the closest thing to a vegas-style casino. went to vegas 6 months ago and think about it almost every day since we left Sad

Yes, Vegas gets in your blood. For me, it's not about the gambling, it's the incredible mega resorts, Bellagio's fountains, Mirage's volcano, Paris's tower, or the New Orleans French Quarter vibe of downtown. We go to Reno almost every month, and hit Vegas 2-4 times a year.

Reno is like downtown Vegas. It has its charms and it's seediness. You can't beat it's gambling opportunities. At Cal-Neva you can play doubledeck blackjack, that pays 3/2 for a blackjack and they hold on a soft 17. All this for $3-5! (Update me if it's changed guys). To get those conditions in Vegas (outside of downtown) you'd need to bet $50 a hand at most places.

You should check out the Atlantis and the Peppermill. I have worked at both. If you don't have a car, take the #1 bus down Virginia a few miles. Peppermill is first, and Atlantis across the street and down a mile or so. Both properties are updated, more "hip" and will have the cocktail waitresses you may be looking for, downtown is spotty in that area.

If you keep your expectations toned down a bit, you'll be fine with Reno. I actually prefer it, but still need a Vegas "fix" every now and then.
