Just a few observations from the last few days for your consideration:

Good: There are new plans for developing the Kings Inn. News is that a buyer has opened escrow with the expectation to close by the end of summer. There are plenty of articles online with details, but suffice it to say that the developer has a good reputation (mostly in the Las Vegas area) for successful developments in multi-use projects, restaurants, residential and the like. It is said to be too early for more precise plans but there is not likely to be a casino as part of the project. I rate this as only good because the property has gotten into escrow at least once before and the deal fell through. Once the sale is finalized the rating can be upgraded although I would expect the grand opening would still be a few years off.

Better: The Horizon at Stateline closed in April for remodeling. It was the oldest casino in the area and in need of a fresh look. Today it was announced that the new theme, after investing approximately $55 million for upgrades, will be a Hard Rock Casino, bringing a whole new look and, they hope, a whole new crowd to Tahoe. Take that, Montbleu!

Hmmm: Not too sure what to make of this, but today I noticed that the T-shirt/Souvenir shop on the northwest corner of N. Virginia and Second Street (across from Harrah's, kitty corner from Cal Neva) has closed. Signs announce an online auction of the inventory in early August. I won't miss the place as I've only been in there a few times and never bought anything. On the other hand, Virginia Street doesn't need another vacant storefront. One can only hope that a new and better tenant will come along.

That's it for now....

That Kings Inn has been an eye sore for years. Any activity has to a major positive step.

I wonder if they will close the Hard Rock Cafe in Harvey's which is next door.

A T-shirt place closing? No big deal I am thinking.

Thanks for the updates Remano! I saw a recent news article regarding the Kings Inn. A multipurpose property would be a good call. From what I saw, lots of people are not really hot about just another casino or just another condo development.

I did see another article somewhere that the Hard Rock restaurant in Harveys might or might not stay intact, something about how it's up to the corporation vs. the individual properties. I'm so glad they are doing something with the Horizon.

I was never in that T shirt shop, but I regret not purchasing that one shirt in the window I walked by several times. It read:

"What Happens in Reno Goes on Facebook!"
