Some of the casino's charge tax on the resort fee. That is somewhat strange.

Cal Neva 0
Harrah's Reno 0
Boomtown 6
Circus Circus 5.99
J Ascauga's 7
ElDorado 7
Sienna 8.51
GSR 11.30
Atlantis 12
Peppermill 12

These are somewhat current but could change, so be mindful and check when making ressies.

LAST year (March, 2012) the ELDO charged me $ 13.05 as follows:

$ 55?
NOPE
Resort fee $ 7/night
City Capital Project Fee $ 2/night
Tax $ 4.05/night
----------------
$ 68.05

One missed by me is the Silver Legacy $13.35 includes the tax and the $2 for the Bowling Tournaments. As far as I know the Sands Regency does pay the $2 fee.

Hi, not sure if we're strictly talking about taxes on resort fees or other fees, BUT one thing I wanted to point out is that Harrah's Reno charges that $2 per day "city tax" thing that so many of the hotels around here (both casino and non-casino) charge. However, I think it's waived for Diamond Players if you're on a comp offer - I only recall having to pay it when I was a Gold and a Platinum.

Quick question: how much do you all think these casinos bank off these "resort fees" and their taxes each year? I stopped and thought about that the other day, and i'm guessing it's pretty huge!

On Another non-Reno trip that wouldn't have interested the board - but might interest BC Dave, I think? - Mrs. Allen and I encountered unbelievable taxes and resort fees in Seattle, WA and Vancouver, CAN - in Vancouver, for example, there was a national tax, a provincial tax, a city tax, AND a tourism tax - that last which subsidizes "Come to Vancouver!"-style international advertising.

These fees added substantial amounts to the bottom line; if one books, say, a $200-a-night hotel, one easily finds the final charge to be in the range of $240 to $250; it's incredible, really.

Travelers continue to put up with it, as Seattle and Vancouver tend to produce misty-eyed declarations of lifetime love, but one wonders just how far away the final straw is.

Nice places, both, but if any of those taxes were at all intended to reduce the legions of street people, then I can report that they have failed miserably.

Go Reno!

I just put on a jacket I last wore in Reno and found my Atlantis bill.

March 2013:

"Room Charge" $ 47.00
"Tax" $ 6.11
"Resort Fee & Rooms Tax" $ 13.56
--------------------------------------------

Credit Card Charges $ 66.67

Coulda been worse - you might have spent the night in (shudder) Vancouver!

Although I have to say, the beer was unbelievably good. Wandered into a Japanese restaurant, run by actual Japanese, and not Koreans, as is the case in Northern California, and partook of a Kirin beer that was brewed in Germany, of all places.

Can't imagine why, but whoa, it didn't matter - good lord, was that tasty!

That's a fine province you've got there, BCDave, but your hotel taxes are far worse than Reno's!

Oh, sorry; that's a non-Reno matter...

Glad you made it to the Great White North, Stan. Hope you had some good weather while you were here.

Everything up here is pretty heavily taxed - except Lottery wins. So far that excemption hasn't made much difference to me.

And I'll be glad to do it again - absolutely, lovely territory, and we were indeed blessed with gorgeous weather.

I don't know how the missus managed to plan the dates so well, but it was a three-day weekend, and tons of traffic was lining up to get into the U.S. while we were coming into Canada, so no wait for us - and then on the way back, tons of traffic was lined up to get into Canada - again, no waiting for us!

But, no Cal-Neva!....

Glad you liked it up here, Stan. We get lots of rain, but when it clears it's gorgeous.

No Cal-Neva - that's for sure! But short line-ups at the border are a pretty good win. We do trips to Point Roberts, Wash and Bellingham quite frequently. We listen for the border reports on the radio, check the internet and watch for the electronic signs and we approach the Blaine crossings (there's two - Pacfic Highway and Peace Arch). Given that information, it still helps to have a little (or a lot) of luck on your side as you commit your vehicle to a certain lane at customs.
