Thought I best log on as it has been awhile and I certainly don't want a bunch of strikes against me like Stan. Twisted Evil

Anyway, for the benefit of those who havent been here and can't get here for awhile, here tis:

Reno has said, regardless of what Vegas does, they will abide by the will of the voters and implement the non-smoking mandate of the voters.
That is good news for everyone, smokers or not. As evidence of the need for this bill, it includes Day Care Centers. Can anyone believe that this law was necessary to prevent that type of child abuse?

So far, word of mouth says that some local places, like Bullys, are ignoring the law. Same with some other such establishments (maybe Scruples and Shenanigans). They seem to have been hoping that smoking advocates in Vegas would bail them out.
But most of the casinos have erected MANY non-smoking signs in the appropriate places around the properties.
e.g., the only decent air in the Peppermill is in two of the bars. I spent a lot of time playing VP in the Oceano Bar and loved it. Top shelf drinks too.

Recently the air was abominable in Baldini's, Gold Dust West, and Siena. I did not check out CalNeva as I never could stand the place - so no report from there. Don;t think the Fitz is any better either.

But, overall, if one was not near an active smoker, it seemed to me that the air was not too bad in most parts of Legacy, Circus, or Eldo. Course they were not busy at all. I haven't checked out Atlantis but doubt that it is any better. I think the air is very bad in there because it abounds with smokers.

Everywhere in this nation that this has been implemented, the business has eventually gotten better. The same will happen here.

Some of the media are referring to a poll of NV gamblers stating that 80% do not smoke. I don't know where this came from and can't believe it to be true. However, many editorials have already come in to the effect that potential gamblers are out there but they won't come to the casinos because of the bad air/smoking.

Some of my research pre-dates the LV judge upholding the will of the people last week so I think there will be changes coming (if not already) at places like Bully's.

So there you have first person insider information. I have the flu and haven't been in a casino in a week since the judge ruled. I missed Christmas and seem to working on "washing out my New Years, as well".

Thanks for the report Hawk. It is good to hear "firsthand" from a guy trying to avoid "secondhand" smoke. Good to hear. Now why in the world would you avoid the Cal Neva? That place is worth the price of admission!
I hope you are feeling better!

I agree with Dave. Why would you avoid the Cal Neva? I've found that some of the best video poker and blackjack in downtown Reno is at the Cal Neva, and I want to play somewhere where my money might go a tad bit further. I'm goin down there in March and it is my goal to spend lots of time at the Cal Neva and get myself rated.

Dave and Bob,
re the CalNeva: I have also heard of the good VP but have always avoided the place. I don't even have a slot card there.
I did walk thru yesterday on my "Continuing Non-Smoking Inspection", and can tell you that they have done virtually nothing. They are definitely in non-compliance. The counter is non-smoking but you can stand or sit a foot or three away and smoke.
the Sky Tower is still fully smoking. Yet they serve food in there and kids are sitting 6 feet from the smokers.
People are smoking in line for food at the Sports Book.
As always, this place is far removed from worrying about good health or the law' IMHO.

The Lil Nugget is non-smoking in the Awful Awful section and is posted at the table area between it and the bar. But people still smoke at the bar which is beside the tables.

Second floor at Fitz is totally non-smoking.

The only place I haven't checked is Harrah's. I was simply too sick with the flu to continue the inspection.

I spoke to the Siena GM today about the problem and told him that, not only was he in non-compliance, but he needs to make some changes to compete with what other casinos are offering.

Gotta get to bed. We each have 200 in free play tomorrow and have to hit the machines and lose it fast before the smokers "quit hacking" enough to stumble into the casino.
