Hi, hope everyone is doing well!

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to relive any of my jackpots from Thanksgivings past this year, but what happened over the next couple of weeks was unreal. My one question in the gambling world remains: Unless a random miracle happens, how come one can't keep hitting jackpots back-to-back-to-back, spending no money in between? Easy answer. Then it wouldn't be gambling! However, every now and again, that random miracle can happen...

A few days after Thanksgiving, we were still staying on Virginia and Plumb. I was making random trips from the Pep to downtown and watching all the Blazing 7s jackpot meters like a hawk - some of which were getting quite high at the time.

Stopped at the Cal-Neva to get yet another awesome Phat Philly special. I think I found a new love on the block. Just get them to go light on the Cheez Whiz! If you're not an onion fan, they'll gladly pick out as many onions as possible, as they are mixed together with the peppers. Green AND red peppers. Awesome!

On Thursday, I started out combing through the machines between Harrah's, Eldorado and Silver Legacy, which produced these:

I'm not quite sure what it is about this one particular $1 Blazing 7s machine at Harrah's. Haven't had a lick of luck on it in the past, but over the past 30 days, I had hit the progressive twice, not to mention getting a $200 and a $300 hit that came completely off two separate $15 express play coupons during two different weeks. Well, it only got better! A few 20s here and there with no results, so I played elsewhere for a bit and came back to it.

On just one more $20, I heard my favorite song and my bell again. Again. $1536.96!

On Friday, it was back at Harrah's for check-in. I was sure the machines were spent for the moment, so it was back over to the Silver Legacy and Eldorado, which produced these:

I found myself on a machine at the Eldorado where the jackpot meter was in the $1400s. Much higher than the rest, so I took a whack at it. About $70 in, and there was a reprise of my favorite song and my bell. $1429.36!

I should've stopped for a breather, but I gotta be me, so I kept right on going. More hits:

Yikes - did I really gamble on and off that weekend for close to 36 straight hours? Guess so. By the time I looked up, it was about 5:45 am on Sunday morning. Dawn patrol! Seems like there wasn't a soul in the street. Really quiet.

Back over to Harrah's. I spotted the Lady with the Troll that I spoke of in my previous trip report, who was playing the Blazing 7s kiosk all weekend, and something told me to go back and check it. Oh, what the hell. I gave my lucky machine another whack.

$51 later, and I heard that song and that bell for the third straight time in less than 72 hours. $1518.51!

I got a big kick outta this one: During the handpay, the slot ambassador said, "If I didn't know any better, I'd swear you lived here." My response? "I DO LIVE HERE!!!!!!!!!! Best damn apartment I've ever had, with all this action going on right in the lobby only 4 floors down!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Cool Cool Cool

OK, good things can't last forever, and I kinda made a bad judgement call by attempting to blitz another machine at the Eldo that afternoon, whose jackpot was in the low $2200s. Four and a half hours later (yup, reserved the machine on two separate occasions for bathroom and Rockstar and Vodka breaks!), I unfortunately didn't hit it, although I got this massive array of hits along the way. Better than nothing!

Earlier this week, another lucky session started up between the Eldorado and Silver Legacy off of a $100 bill. The first $300 hit was produced off of the last $3, the last spin. The rest of the hits bounced off that, spending very little money in between for a change.

Not really sure exactly how much coin through I generated over the past couple of weeks, but I just checked my comp accounts. Tessa and I are gonna be eatin' good this month!

Hope the good luck continues. Now, for the not so good news: still no luck finding a full-timer, after sending out 6-10 resumes per week on the average since this whole ordeal started, and as I'm sure you all have heard, the federal government is in such bad shape that everyone's unemployment benefits are getting cut off on December 29, even if you have a balance on your account. My balance is $32,000 and I'm not getting it. No sense getting ticked off, because the government is the government and nothing's gonna change. This hasn't been the easiest way to live, but if you are entitled to government funding and are in a situation where you are surviving on it, it's kinda drastic to just get the plug pulled like that. I'm very fortunate we've survived so far, and I can't help thinking about how much harder it would be if I had a family to support, a mortgage payment, a car payment, a lease, numerous bills, and God knows what else - and have all this happen. Like I mentioned in a previous post: No job, no car, no significant other, no apartment. Just a dog, a backpack, and a bunch of boards! Optimal at times like this. Anyhow, I'm going to drastic extremes to find any type of work at this point, and hoping for the best - I even applied at El Pollo Loco and at the copy center/print shop at Staples. Hell, we've made it on the equivalent of $9.80 per hour from the government for the past 9 months, so hopefully something will pull together soon.

If not, look for us under the Reno Arch with a tin cup and our new side show. Here's the plan: I taught Tessa how to play my slot machine with her snout. She has a gypsy scarf that was given to us by our former vet in Florida, and it even has cut outs for her ears. "Step right up and let the Gypsy German Shepherd spin your way to a fortune for only $10! Then, they'll lose, and Tessa will go into attack mode when they try to fight us. FOOLPROOF! Yeah, the dog, the slot machine, the guitar, the djembe drum, and the tin cup…

JUST KIDDING! We'll be okay! Day #125 since this journey began and we're still kickin'. Hoping for the best!

When I casually referred to the "Dizzying highs and terrifying lows" of the Reno experience, I had zero idea that such an epic illustration of the concept was being woven so masterfully...

A 36-hour slot session?? It's so difficult to even conceive of such a thing now, though I still have distant memories of such days of glory...

And what to say, except: good luck, and hang in there. I hope things improve! Ech, that's kind of glib - but the sentiment is no less real.

Thanks for yet another superlative of on-site glories-of-the-slots photography!

I can't believe all those jackpots! THAT'S FREAKING AMAZING!

How are you offers from the Eldo? I'm down to getting only one comp night a month where I was getting more earlier this year (granted my play at Eldo is being siphoned off to Cal Neva and Siena now).

I saw that Reno is being hit with snow. Do the streets shut down or is there plows and de-icing sprays? I can imagine that the casinos are nearly empty during the snow. Maybe, that's the best time for drawings and promo plays!

Best of luck to you! Can't wait for more trip reports!!!!

Thanks so much everyone! Hopefully Santa will bring us a job before the new year!

Dfens - actually, it's funny you mentioned the Eldorado offers. Not sure how or why it worked out like it did, but I recall Club Eldorado was the very first club I joined back in 2003, before my first Reno trip ever while still living in Florida (I think they were the only place that was mailing cards out at the time vs. having to pick them up). Last year, I got an upgrade to Gold, probably as a time courtesy because I never used to play there. I've happened to notice especially since I got here that their comps aren't too bad, and go figure, I got a new card in the mail on Friday along with a letter saying I'm now a Gold Plus! Must've been that long session I had last weekend. As a Gold, they've always given me one free night every two weeks depending on play level, and heavy discounts on suite upgrades - have only stayed once because the deposits are very high. Gold Plus is now offering 2 free nights every two weeks, VIP Checkin and Gold Room access, VIP Parking, a personal host, and a free buffet every Wednesday. Not bad - I wish they allowed pets or I'd be on it! Gotta say that they cut the biggest deal ever on the buffet, which is very cheap to start out with - I think they've shaved off $3 each breakfast/lunch and $5 off each dinner. Maybe that's why I've been in there so much. I'm now noticing that tournament/ticket events are now comped vs. getting the "call for eligibility" message, so I'm guessing it can only get better. They have a really weird rule where maintaining or not maintaining a certain comp dollar balance controls your free play, but still investigating that. I haven't seen any multiplier days like most of the other places have, but that session last weekend got me about $120 in comps and about $90 in free play. No complaints here! They also mention that an average must be maintained to continue receiving benefits - just hoping they don't downgrade anyone. Hoping to win something big or at least collect all the treasures at the Treasures of the Eldorado game.

Well, I've only been in two snow showers since I got here and they've been minimal - no plows yet, and it seems like it was more on the rain side as Tahoe (and Mammoth) were gettin' hit hard! The only time I've seen plows here was on my first trip back in 2004, where they had closed the airport, and I only remember the snowbanks that seemed to be 30 feet high on the sides of the 395 going to Tahoe. Maybe we'll have a nice dump in town and I can break out the snowskate somewhere - found some wicked hills to bomb!

ElDo usually has triple multiplier on Friday or Friday nights... speaking of, I actually got a mailer from them with two comp nights for the week or one for the weekend... surprise!

And holy moly macaroni and cheese! Those jackpots! Crazy!!

As to the Phat Philly, yes, indeed... it has surpassed the AA by far for my favorite fast-food option in Reno... so delicious!! You can use your comps to buy one, but you have to go the players' desk to get the paper comp...
