Thanks for the info mjames! I came across this article last nite and found it interesting:

I had no clue they set up temporary lanes directly under the arch!

That is special for the US Women's Open. I know of a couple of women who were out there this past weekend to try to qualify, and they took a couple more pictures of the installation under the arch, but I need to get them onto a host site so I can link them here.

Well - Mammoth you never disappoint us with a bland trip report. How interesting about the Pepp and not getting you a room. What is going on over there???

It sounds like the drama is over, but I think you should have held out for a couple of hookers included in the deal. Very Happy

I can't believe you walked from downtown to the GSR, to Atlantis and back to the GSR all in the same day. That is a lot of walking.

I wish I had taken some pictures of my room at the GSR. The remodeled rooms are MUCH nicer.

Hopefully something on the job front will show up.

right on CASwede, thanks! On the offers I have been receiving at GSR, there has been an option to upgrade to the Summit Tower for $20 per night, but I've held off specifically because they tell you in the same sentence that they do charge the resort fee and also hit your card up for $50 per day. I've heard that in comparison to those first-floor rooms they seem to give as mainstream comps it's worth it. Oh, that reminds me, for any of you staying there - I've heard it's best to ask for your preference at the front desk checking in vs. when reserving. If you have no preferences, the first floor rooms are the first places they'll try to put you if you're on a comp. Some might not like it as the first floor is right off the casino with no security, and it's also a smoking and pet-friendly floor. I'm seriously going to ask if they have any weight limits on dogs, because I see Dobermans running around there and if that's the case, I'm bringing my German Shepherd next time!

Oh, I also wanted to let everyone know that one of my friends who's a Reno local mentioned this "semi-underground" site where you can book in the Summit Tower at the GSR directly from the individual owners that have units there. Some of them look really done up, and it's supposedly much cheaper than booking direct, in the event comps aren't around:

Yeah, that WAS alot of walking that day - that whole trip actually, as I also did the famous walk from the Pep to downtown the day before. I've blown so much money on cabs on my day trips, where there's only about an hour and 45 minutes to get off the bus and back on, so I try to even it out when I can. Gotta love it though, everything around here in Mammoth is 45 degrees uphill so it's cool having some flat time every now and again!

Oh well, no hookers, but the guy at the Pep also told me next visit, I'm also going to get a personalized tour of the suites I haven't yet stayed in: The Royal, The Penthouse, The Safari, and The Roman Opulence. Why, I don't know, his idea not mine, maybe it's just a taunt for probably what'll just not be available down the road. Maybe I should ask for that ivory hand carved elephant thing in there as a souvenir? Cool

Thank you for sharing your stories. My stories from the Peppermill aren't nearly as exciting. I think they've treated me fairly, but I've stopped getting offers from them and as a result I've stopped visiting them. I only miss them a little bit.

Sorry Mammoth to hear of your troubles at my castle. Such a bummer. I cant recall your user id on trip advisor. Id like to read your review.

I still am getting decent offers. Just got 3 nights in a Florence or some other suite. Cant recall the name and $200 free pkay. Good in July and Aug. I was suprised they offered that much. Will be heading down in Oct.

I really should start getting so play in elsewhere. I just cant seem to leave The Pep. They dont even have alot of the newer games which i find odd.

Hey Alison, great hearing from you! Yeah seems like they've gotten a couple of new machines here and there but nothing major, but maybe since they're all supposedly 93% payback or higher like their website says, they're harder to come by or something. Oh well, looks like I'll be stylin' as far as accommodations go these next couple visits. I'm actually kinda stressed right now because half of my express play coupons for July haven't come in yet from Harrah's, and I was planning on using three of them next Thursday. Hope it all pulls through! I am florida_snowboarder on TripAdvisor. I pulled the Pep's review down since he technically got the complaint resolved and offered me something in return (I've dealt with others that don't even call people back before so I'll give them that!), but I might still have it copied and pasted somewhere.

Thanks for sharing the pics MJames. Here's another link I found; the completed setup looks really nice.

Here's a neat pick of people hanging out of parking garages watching.

M James:

Nice pic of the people hanging out at the parking garage on the East side of Virginia St. I was just across the street with some friends that bowl.

BUT when the real bowling started,,, they kicked them all out.

When the ladies started bowling for cash.... those spectators were all gone. And some of them got there very early for those prime viewing spots.

When I walked back to the Eldo from spending until 2 am at the Siena & Cal Neva...the lanes, the booths, and the bleachers were all still there.

When I got up at 10 am...everything was GONE !!

More later.
