I've been reading this board for about 2 years now and have decided it's time to dive in and get my feet wet.
My wife surprised me for Xmas with a trip to the Peppermill, Super Bowl weekend(I'm a football nut) and I need some advice on best places(Quality and Value) to eat. Italian, Steakhouse, Mexican, Buffet, Breakfast Deals, best Hot Dog and Deli. I would like to stick with the Hotel/Casinos for these places, even though I know local's places are often better. It's more about trying to hit two for one, if you know what I mean. I will have a car.
I was there in April 2009 for a 2 night stay at the back end of a Sacramento trip and have been through the area many time for Tahoe ski trips.
Sorry if this is a little long but, I'll get better at this in the future.

I'd recommend the restaurant in the GSR next to the buffet. They have a special menu 4-6 PM (not sure of times). Good luck.

For steak, please go to The Steakhouse at Harrah's in Reno.. it is rated at a 4-diamond by AAA but is truly a five-star experience! We usually stay at Harrah's and bought show tickets this summer and got the deal with a dining credit so we figured we'd try the Steakhouse for dinner. It's in the basement at Harrah's, so we weren't really expecting a whole lot, but oh my!!

We've eaten worldwide at many different places and it was one of the finest dining experiences I've ever had. Ozzie was our waiter and he is top-notch. I had the Steak Diane, prepared tableside - perfect! We had Bananas Foster for dessert - again, prepared tableside - and again, perfect. It was so good I even bothered to write the President of Harrah's to let them know about it. (can you tell I love that place??) They're also open for lunch at significantly cheaper prices - Steak Diane for dinner is about $40, at lunch it's $19... (also, if you have a Harrah's total rewards players card, your purchases at Harrah's restaurants count towards credits!)

Cal-Neva has a cheap hotdog & beer combo (less than $5, I seem to recall) - the dogs are good, the beer is cold. It's in the Sportsbook area so you can watch games while chewing your dog. Don't bother with the turkey legs unless they're just fresh up from the kitchen.

Peg's Glorified (not in a casino but so worth going!) is quite good for breakfast (see my trip report Unchained in Reno).

For buffets, we were totally impressed with the El Dorado breakfast buffet and we really liked the buffet at Silver Legacy for dinner.

The Silver Legacy is also home to Fairchild's - around the corner from the buffet. It's a seafood place. They brag about the pan roasts and rightfully so! They're more of a creamy soup with huge chunks of seafood, but damn tasty!

Silver Legacy also has a cool "food court" downstairs on the gaming floor - good prices and the food looked great, but we didn't eat there....

See my prior trip reports for more details about dining.. I'm a total foodie!

Peppermill has some pretty good dining places. For Italian, I really like Romanza. The deli next to the sportsbook has what I consider some great comfort food (after losing your super bowl bets)- chicken noodle soup. I get some every trip.
