Hi All,

It's been almost a year since we've been to Reno and we're just now
planning a quick little getaway for Oct. Since our fav place (the Fitz) is
closed, we're trying to decide where to stay. We can only arrive on a Sat.
as our time is limited.

We hoped to stay downtown. Have checked room rates at Harrah's and
wow! $150 to $170 for one night stay (and thats the rate for players card
members). So, thats out. The Legacy is also out, no Sat. arrivals, same for Eldorado (haven't stayed there in 5 yrs).

We're looking at 2 places, Boomtown Hotel/Casino or Circus (haven't
stayed there in 20 yrs.). Our questions are, how are the rooms at Boomtown? Which tower at Circus is better and why?
Any help/suggestions you can provide will be much appreciated!

Thanks All Smile

I have stayed at Boomtown a couple of times recently(3 weeks ago on my last visit), and was pleasantly surprised at how nice the rooms are. They went through and completely re-worked them over - nice large flat screen tv, coffee makers, nice comfy beds, newspapers in the morning, and nice bathroom ameneties. I also found they have some great video poker at Boomtown.

I too have not stayed at the Circus in about 20 years myself...no help from me on that question.

Have you checked the Sands?

I'd also recommend at least considering the Sands - "Terrible's" it may be, but the rooms are - or have been - decent, and they seem less likely to employ that snooty "No Saturday Arrivals" policy. Not a bad value, especially for us cheapskates.

It ain't the Fitz, but then again, nothing else is.

(Or something.)

It's terrible that the sands of time have passed this place by.
couldn't resist the pun. Stan, you are a bad influence.

Though I am not crazy about the Sands, I do believe it is the best value in Reno when one has to PAY for a room. I always call them when I am in that situation. Rooms are OK but I have to seriously down-rate them now that they have started accepting pets. I am allergic to both dogs and cats.

Should I ever have a problem with that, I will never again darken their doors regardless. I would play a bit more there (in spite of their lack of decent VP) if one could get a reasonably decent drink.

But reserve quickly, cause I don't know how much longer they will last. They will likely try to sell out to someone else. That and the Siena will be next for the wrecking ball or whatever is used for condom conversions.

But there is a grain of truth to what you say.

drifting sands, sands of time, grain of truth.
What will be next? I'm not sure I can see clearly as I "have sand in my eyes".
OTOH, it is only 3 months and 2 days until "Sandy Claws" comes to visit.

(Ali, "Sand" me the pillow that you dream on.)

Sky Tower at Circus is a BEATIFUL place to stay.. I found the rooms plush.. quiet.. and spotless...have staeyd there several times......you have to take the tram to th emain bbldg but what teh heck.....I think Circus gets a bad rap because Circus in Vegas is a dump but Reno Circus is differnt ownership

I agree with Q on Circus. Undeserved bad rap.

Rooms are clean and roomy. With the skywalks, you have access to the trilogy of Circus/Legacy and El Dorado. They are also offering specials with free slot play and coupons.

Hi All,

Thanks for the helpful replies. My hubby would like to know, is the Sky Tower at Circus newer than the North Tower? Do they each have their own lobby or do we check-in the main one( North tower)? How often does the tram run?

We've decided to stay at Circus (its where we stayed when we first got married 20 yrs. ago). Wish we could spend more than one night but we're just glad to be able to get away at all.

Thanks again for the advice Smile

I'm not sure on all of your questions, as we haven't stayed there in a couple years, but I'll give my best memory:

I don't remember the rooms being any different based on tower, it was just location, AND 1/2 the time you can ask for an "upgrade" to the main tower for free, and most of the time, pay for the upgrade for $10. I usually did this so I didn't have to take the tram.

When I did take the tram, they seemed to run constantly, with a wait under 10 minutes, running pretty late (if not all night) too.

While there is a lobby for both, I can't remember the last time I saw the tower one open. Check-in at the main, especially if you choose to go with the main tower. RL

Hi All,

We'll be heading for Reno in a few hours. It's been a year since we've been there so we're really looking forward to the trip, even though it's only for one night. We picked Circus Circus, decided to splurge on a mini suite in the Sky Tower, just to see what its like.

They offer a AAA discount that includes Free Fun Bucks worth $65. Fun Bucks includes $10 food credit, 2 for 1 brunch buffet, $5 in freeplay, $5 match play, $10 off room rate for future stay, etc. I read on their website that they have a section in the casino that offers coin in/coin out slots.....I didn't know those still existed but we will be sure to give them a try, I love to hear the "plink, plink" of coins falling into the tray Smile

Sat. night will be a treat as we plan to go and listen to our friend George sing. He used to perform at the Fitz for many years. It will be nice to see him again Smile

Will write a trip report when we get back.
