Surprised my hubby (who had been a Ranger at Burning Man since 8/25) by flying into Reno on 9/6. Met him in the bar (Drinx) at the Silver Legacy - great bartenders Giovanni and George - remembered us from past years and again provided excellent service.

Staying in a King Deluxe at the El Do (no upgrades available due to the Golf Tourney thing) and it was fine - nice, clean, etc.

Hubby had all-you-can-eat Sushi at the Circus Circus, while me, the meat-lover got a cheap turkey sandwich from their deli - in my opinion, that's one of the best deals around - small meat sandwich, with a side of potato or macaroni salad for about $5.00....keeps well too, as I think I ate mine around 3am!

Gambled at the El Do (blackjack) and did ok, but had amazing drink service. We spent most of our time at Drinx in the Silver Legacy (in the walkway) playing VP - that's the ONLY VP bar in all of the downtown area that we've found that has DW (my game) and FP JOB for hubby. No big wins, no huge losses - ended up about $1300 down after 3 days between the 2 of us.

Had about $90 in comps between the 2 of us, so we splurged on the steakhouse at the SL - Sterlings. Served by an amazing man, Joseph, who had several helpers who also did a stellar job.

Ross had lobster bisque (yum per him), house salad, the 16oz bone-in ribeye, garlic mashed potatoes and a chocolate MONSTER for dessert. His potatoes were great, salad good, and steak pretty tasty.

I had the Caesar Salad (probably not worth the up-charge), French Onion Soup (was just ok, nothing great), Filet Mignon (perfectly cooked), baked potato and veggies.

We split a bottle of lower-end champagne and ended up owing about $30 plus tip - we both left overly-stuffed and happy!

Decided to take a later flight home, so I went to the Nugget, bought one Awful Awful to go and it was game on! Hubby was resting in the room and I decided to play VP at Vito's bar, at the El Do - they have HORRIBLE odds on VP but I have always liked the look of the place.

Jumped around between BP and DW, and hit 4 Aces on BP - 400 quarters, woohoo! Ordered 2 REALLY weak Captain Morgan/Diet Cokes, then just switched to Diet Coke - was down to about $140 in the machine, switched to DW! No big hits, just a few little ones here and there. Dealt 4 to the royal, which of course, I held....got the last card, WOOHOO ROYAL flush with NO deuce! That's 4000 quarters, aka $1,000....put us close to even, so I cashed out and ran to the room to surprise hubby!

Got in line for the airport shuttle and had about 15 minutes to waste - put $100 into a $5 slot machine, 5 credits per spin - YIKES! Hit $275 on the last spin, woohoo - we're exactly even in the gaming budget department.

Flight home was good, no delays, and we've already booked his stuff for Burning Man 2012! Sorry not much action, but it paid off in the end!

Rock on Reno!

Sounds like a really fun run. You're tempting me to try some of the downtown dining options.

I looked it up, and it's official. Breaking even in Reno is considered winning, and coming out ahead at one of the airport machines is a minor miracle.

Thanks for the report.

Nice trip! And I'd have to say that breaking even is unheard of for The Dog and I, but if we roll out of Reno with more than a few nickels, we're feeling like winners...

Thanks for the report on Sterlings; we've debated eating there and will probably give it a go sometime soon. If you're a carnivore, The Steakhouse at Harrah's is absolutely STELLAR - service, food, and atmosphere....

thanks for the awesome report, and glad you guys had fun at Burning Man! about half my friends here went and I was so jealous when they came back...I'm on it next year for sure!

So, did you get that $275 on a machine at the airport, or were you still at the casino? Was wondering because I hit $100 on a $1 Wheel of Fortune waiting for the shuttle back home last month at the airport, and I swore it was my first, last and only airport win.

John - thanks for the clarification on the breaking even being considered as winning. I'm going to recalculate all the times I almost broke even!
