I have been getting lots of love letters from the casinos, and some I use. I got an extra special love letter that gave me an extra $50 in free play for my birthday month at the Peppermill. With the birthday month about gone, I called Tuesday to see if they would let me come.....sure they said. I will be there this afternoon was my reply.

I arrived at the Peppermill parking garage at 3 PM. I checked in and dumped my bag in the room, and walked down to the Atlantis. It seems very close, but it was about a 20 minute walk down there. I was amazed to see all the empty buildings with "for lease" signs on these very nice and maintained buildings. The economy hit this area hard.

I had a mailed $15 free play offer, and another $10 free play for entering an on- line contest. The Atlantis is a very nice place with great video poker everywhere. Some say the Atlantis has the best inventory of video poker in Nevada. They may be correct. I played quarters and spent most of time at a bar top 9/6 JOB with a RF progressive. Not much luck, but I did enjoy playing at the oyster bar area and watching the sunset over Virginia Street I don't know what the Atlantis is doing, but it was packed on a Tuesday night. There was a line of at least 50 waiting for the buffet every time I walked by. They were much busier vs. the Peppermill. For me- poor luck here and I left $40 poorer.

I walked back to the P-mill and I played on my daughter's card. She gave me $20 to play for her. She likes those penny machines, and I tried the Kenny Rodgers game. I have no idea what happened, but I won some money. I played some nickel vp and had some luck. In fact, I played for almost 4 hours on her $20 playing low denomination/poor paytables. I brought back $70for her. That was the end of my luck.

Wednesday I played all day at the Peppermill. My game is video poker. I played about 5 hours on the free play. I then had to dig in my pocket, and about 7:30 I decided this was not my day and I stopped playing seriously. I then tried the formula from the day before and played nickel games such as bonus deuces wild, two pair joker etc. I actually came out ahead again.

The ugly- I hit only one quad all day! You normally will get dealt 3 of a kind about 1 in 47 hands. My guess is based on this and the number of hands I played I got dealt 127 three of a kinds....... I never connected on any of these to hit a four of a kind. You would normally hit the quad holding 3 about once every 23 hands. My only quad was deuces playing BP and I held two. I hit a lot of full houses etc. that kept me in the games, but without quads it was not good. I am glad I stopped playing when I did, so the damage was not that bad--- down $150. I can handle that.

I was playing very late Tuesday night and walked by the old poker area. Here was a 20 something gal sitting on the lap of a much older man --- about 75. Where I was seated I could see him with his hand up her blouse. About 5 minutes later they got up (I think his knee must have given out). His hair was all messed up, they were walking holding hands and he had a huge smile on his face.... They must have struck a deal!. Man... It just did not look right at all.

I did eat in the new Milano cafe, and not much change other than the decor. Also, I went into the old Fish Bar and did not like it at all. It is no smoking which I like, but the fish are gone and it is super dark. Also, I wanted to watch the Giants playing on TV which I was watching everywhere, but the bartender said it was blacked out in there..??? I saw they have some nice beer tappers......the bartender said they were not hooked up..... I left. The new poker area looks really nice. No other changes noted, other than my ritual of getting the Chicken Noodle soup at the Deli was a disapointment. Rubbery noodles this time.

That is it!!!

Sounds like a fun trip! I too got that same offer for my b-day. Thanks for the updates on the Pep. Bummer about the soup. I usually get that a few times when I'm down there. Did you notice any new slots? How does the new comp system seem to be? Better I hope.

Love those spur-o-the-moment trips....

Atlantis seems really appealing to me for a stay, but we've never had any luck there when we stop in. I've not been back to PM since our stay there last summer, though they do send vague offers for poker tourneys and an occasional room.

alison- I did not see any new slots, but I don't play them, so my observation is suspect. comps? They accumulate at a snails pace now. They have certainly gone down in the last year. Also, when I was there I found they were offering 4X comps on your play. I discovered they have a "locals page" on the web site and I found it there. You have to swipe your card before you play- not automatic. Kind of sneaky. Even with 4X comps I got less than $40....piss poor I think.

Lily- Almost all my trips are a "I want to go now" type trips. I have traveled at times without a reservation on a real spur of the moment visit. I think I could make the Atlantis my home base if circumstances change.

Yeah i had seen on their website the locals calander and recall hearing from someone else you had to swipe your card first. Also typicall, comps accrue at a slower rate with video poker then with slots. Not sure if that is the case still. I imagine so.

thanks for the trip report and it definitely sounds like you had fun! Yeah, I've been in the Atlantis several times, but it seems like I've never had any luck in there. Seems like they're good for dropping you some free play with just a couple of visits. It was my "last chance" stop this past trip and I happened to notice I had about 780 points on my card...trying to figure out how much money I blew in there! If they threw me a comp, I'd probably take it but play elsewhere. As you mentioned, the dining places seem to stay pretty packed.

Good to hear the Cafe Milano hasn't changed much, but I remember looking over their menu and they took my favorite coffee shop items off the board, so I didn't investigate it any further.

Jeez, I can't imagine the comps at the Pep slowing down any further than what they already were...I've been trying to check my point balance since I went on Tuesday and keep getting hit with a pesky "internal error" on their site. Like I said, maybe I'll be at Gold level by the time I'm 80!

The Peppermill is not happy with me for my lack of play and quitting early at throwing the money at their machines.

I received my next 2+ months of offers. I went from free rooms anytime in the Tuscany Suites to a few free nights in a standard room and $25 and $45/ night at the other times. I also went from $150 in free play to $30 in free play.

Boy- they hold a grudge. Sad

The Peppermill has this ridiculous policy of rewarding their big players more. As a matter of fact, all the casinos do. The problem with the system is when you cut your play back, they cut their free play back, which makes you less inclined to make the trip to the casino, resulting in less play and fewer benefits. I used to go to the Peppermill on a regular basis and was getting $40 FP four times a week. When I cut my play, they cut the FP. The result is I now get either $7 or $3 two or three times a week. That's not worth getting out of bed for, so I now hit the Peppermill maybe once in two weeks and take my play elsewhere. By the end of the year, I should be back at the purple card level. With the money I save, I probably get another cockatoo. Maybe I'd be better off at the Peppermill. If I didn't know better, I'd think they were in business to make a profit.

I played alot less my last trip down there last year. My offers have been better. For example, last fall my free play was only $100.00, this time its $200.00. The offered me also 4 nights in a Tuscany Florence Suite. go figure!

Alison,
Your experience seems to contradict John's. Do other factors influence the Peppermill's free play decision makers? Maybe they've seen your avatar!

I don't want to put words in our WebMaster's mouth but I think John's offer for free play still stands too!

Watch out Alison for the free play offer.. Shocked

I think John and I, or anyone else that wants to join in are going to file a class action suit against the Peppermill. With the evidence that Alison has presented we should get a nice settlement without going to court.....Take care of this John.

Actually thinking back on it, I believe I shot myself in the foot. The first night when I was going to play on my daughters card, I messed up and put my card in a reader but quickly removed it when I saw my error. They probably tripped me for a non play day and thus it reduced my daily coin through average.

I was planning a trip in Sept. with my lady (she loves to play), but with the poor offer I will go somwhere else.

That's the way it is folks.

Hey Swede, about that card reader: if you have any money in the machine when you remove the card, you'll still be logged on to your account. The message line will say something like, "Carded session in progress". If you put another card in the slot, the message will be, "Card read error". You have to pull the card and cash out to end the session.

As far as the class action lawsuit against the Peppermill, the Visitreno.com legal team contacted them. The agreement they reached is for me to offer Alison free play and other fun benefits. Sly.
Call me when you get into town, Ali, and I'll give you my...uhhh YOUR rewards.

Well, Thanks John on the class action setup -

Actually I spent the afternoon giving my deposition to the visitreno.com legal team. The Cheatum law group. Everytime I mentioned Alison the interviewer got kind of a funny look in his face and would wave his right arm. I thought it rather strange, but I assume he had a golf game later in the day and was practicing his golf swing.

I had a chance to meet one of the three partners of the vistireno.com law team- Curly. He told me the other two team members- Larry and Moe were on vacation.
