Wazzup everyone, hope all is well! I'm supposed to be in Australia right now, but my apartment got flooded out last week with sludge due to a faulty fire sprinkler head. I'm truly ticked off at the people that came here to do an air test on them without anyone's knowledge, but that's another story. My flight to Brisbane got cancelled right beforehand so I'm debating whether to stay or go at this point - might put it off for later when there's not so much of a stress factor around here! Might need another Reno trip to get me going after the one I had Monday and Tuesday, so seriously might jump on the bus to go back!

On Friday, July 29, I was officially on vacation when work let out. Still don't know how I made it - I lost my assistant in February, held the place down for almost 3 months solo, and am now the only veteran in a sea of new people at the office - no off time since January - I'm still alive! I decided to start cleaning my trashed apartment (still no luck getting up with the landlord at present, so I'm taking it upon myself to clean and paint. Still going five days later and trying to figure out if my electronics are going to make it!) I checked my account at Harrahs and had several comped nights in Reno, so I jumped on the bus and left Monday morning.

I got to the Reno airport at noon and jumped on the shuttle to Harrah's. Got checked in without a problem in a comped west tower room, although I still think the $50 per nite incidental deposit being mandatory depends on who's checking you in - I didn't have one last time, paid cash the time before that, and this time it was credit card only. Oh well, more money I didn't gamble away...the room was on the 18th floor, no problems whatsoever, great view of the Reno strip. I have 2000 more tier credits to accumulate by the end of the year to get bumped up to Diamond level, so I'm on the way. I was kind of ticked off because a VIP reserved the whole kiosk of Double Blazing 7's machines for practically the whole time I was there - and she was rudely playing, like, 3 at a time when she was actually playing!

By the time I was back on the bus on Tuesday afternoon, I was down about $1000 - YIKES! I did, however, have some small wins along the way. I gotta say that I'm becoming a big fan of the Quick Hit progressives, as well as the newest crop of Wheel of Fortune machines - still classic reels, but brand new. I got a $160 hit on one of them in the first photo. There is another new model that's 4 sets of reels being played at one time - truly awesome - but $8 per spin if playing at dollar level! Had a great time on the quarter models as well, as they're only $2 per spin max bet. Managed to hit Harrahs, Eldorado, Silver Legacy, Peppermill and Atlantis this trip, and oh yeah, finally got the bronze card in my hand from the Peppermill! As mentioned in a previous post, this is truly a milestone, seeing as how I've been a member there since January 2005. The best part of the trip? I passed by Shooters a few times, and sorry if this old news, but there appears to be an upgrade since my last trip: a full-blown misting machine right under the sign at the doorway! I didn't realize that there is a 24 hour Walgreens a few blocks down from Harrahs, so I took a couple of walks down that way. Sure beats paying top dollar at the casino and the little souvenir and liquor stores.

Trying to ponder going back later in the week, because this was one of those "OUCH" trips for sure - but always a good time either way. At this point, just being out of the office for a couple of weeks took some of the pain away!

Thanks for all the pics... I'm about to post my way-too-long weekend report and I've been slacking about offloading pics for the report.

Go back to Reno and win back those losses! <grin>

right on, yeah, another trip is in order. I hit the Indian Casino on the way to Kmart today and played dollars for about 3 hours, came up $60 ahead. Better than behind but I need another rematch! Besides hitting up the Red White & Blue for $120, I also got a $200 hit on another 3 coin model - 3 blue 7s - but unfortunately I forgot to lock up the iPhone so this is the only one that came out. Maybe another little day trip might be in order!

Your room at Harrah's appeared to be almost the same as mine when I was there in May... My photos from my room look exactly like yours. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the report Mammoth! Great pics too! I'm curious... Have you noticed if there's many lit rooms at our old Flamingo/Golden Phoenix? Can't help but wonder how they're doing. That project seemed to be the most ambious of all the hotel makeovers.

Sorry to hear about your apartment. That sucks!

Dave,

From the downtownmakeover web site a couple days ago:

"The Montage is leading the way in condominium sales in Reno with 25 closed deals in the last quarter and 44 thus far in 2011, more than any other project in Reno. They have 126 condos sold thus far, roughly 1/3rd of the building, including a Rowhouse that recently sold for over $200,000. Given that all the units have been cash-only sales, no financing available (as of yet), this could be Reno's only foreclosure-less building! Ha. While the absorption rate has been painfully slow, the building is gradually filling up, and the resident pool parties are to die for."

Good answer, thanks! So as far a "lit rooms" goes, it's not exactly a shining beacon of real estate promise quite yet.

Hi BC Dave, good to see you! Yeah, I had to wind up canceling the trip down under to rescue my apartment and belongings - insured or not, I'm not gonna leave all my stuff sitting in a pile of toxic sludge water (including my comped flat panel from Terrible's!)

Although this trip was bad, I went back - a couple of times - and got sweet revenge. Check part two of the report!
