Hi again, Lily, forgot to mention in my last post, that's awesome you got a chance to check out Montbleu and great to hear they got a second sigma derby! The first one came across the street from the Horizon before it turned into a ghost town, and I believe last I heard, there are only 5 or 6 of them left in the world. At least there's something of interest in there, because I've never bumped into anyone that's won a red cent playing anything else, give or take a couple of free play offers. And the piped-in air freshener in the casino has to be the nastiest!
I think I remember reading somewhere that Harrah's Reno was actually two separate hotels/properties back in the day, one possibly being something as standard as the Hampton Inn. I've heard various comments that it doesn't seem as "done up" as some of the other Harrah's properties, so maybe they just didn't bother here - the whole place seems to be a bit on the standard side in comparison to some of the others. I do agree though, the west tower rooms are so much better and closer to the Virginia Street casino. The only time you'll see me on the other side is either going to Quizno's or the noodle bar, or the front desk. I actually forget there's machines and tables over on that side!
I'll hafta investigate this CommRow thing...I walked right by it a few times and the only thing I recall seeing was gates around the Fitz, but none of these hilarious-sounding signs and billboards!
Oh yeah, I noticed they just put a the Hash House in Reno. I hope it does well, the one in Vegas at the Imperial Palace was awesome. Try the stuffed applewood bacon mashed potato burger, it rocks!
And thanks again for all the info about the Total Rewards Visa Card!

This was a great trip to Reno for us! I'm a big fan of the CN. I like that I feel just a little dirty when I go in there. If I'm going to be gambling and drinking, I believe it should be in a properly seedy place like CN. Seriously, what's the rationale behind gaming at a casino who's just put in a multi-million dollar wing? I want to play at the casino that's losing it's @$$. Just my thoughts on the matter...
Mammoth - Lily and I had Hash House in Vegas earlier this year and were really happy to see it come into Harrah's. I can't remember what the name of the other place was, but I know their coffee was so horrible that we never went in there for anything. The new Hash House is awesome, though! |

Also speaking of the slow CN elevators. When I went to go up to the room (on the 12th floor) without Lily, a group of guys got out laughing. I didn't think anything of it until I got in and ALL of the floor buttons had been pushed. AND they had befouled the air in there. Well played men. Well played. |

Dog:
Glad you enjoyed the "sawdust joint" as the older places used to be called. They've always been my favs as well.
But I would be sooooo tempted to tell those kids you need their home address coordinates so you could send them a package at Christmas....right down the chimney...lol.
I suppose that would be frowned on....but still....
Next trip, try the "smoked prime rib" at Copa at Sands. Be sure to ask Elizabeth for the fresh horseradish with it.
If ya don't like it, I'll buy it.
Then try a drink on the deck at Siena if it's hot and you like the shade. |

Lily (and the Dog), we're all in your debt for the great trip reports. Thanks for keeping the Trip Reports section of our favorite website up to date and active! Glad you had a funtastic time and it's great to hear all the praise for the good ole CalNeva!
Maybe they should have a Visa card. It would be just too cool to look at the bottom of your monthly Visa bill and see something like ... "You have seven rolls of quarters waiting for you at the CalNeva - Reno's Best bet!" |

I'm right behind BCDave on this one. Oh, that didn't sound right. I agree with BCDave on this one. Thanks for keeping everyone up to date on your trips and opinions. They're loads of fun to read. |
