Just a quick TR. Left Friday evening after work with an old friend and my BIL. Had a free room and some free money. Arrived at about 9:30 and checked in. Dropped the bags and went in search of a craps game. Played Cal Neva for a few hours. Had some good hands and some poor ones. Tables were too busy for my taste. Quit down about 1/2 my buy in. Enjoyed a comped meal at 1AM at the upper deck. Good old fashioned casino food. Hit the sack.

Woke early when the sun peeked through the curtains. Got a shower and hit Starbucks in Harrah's. Put a few dollars through a VP machine to let them know I'd been there. Back to Cal Neva for craps. Session started poorly, but picked up a bit in the end. Hit the players club for my free play. Turned it into $50 cash. Ended our Cal Neva play that morning just below even. We checked out and headed over to Siena. I used to play here a lot, but as the place declined, I stopped making the effort to walk over. I was pleasantly surprised by the changes the new owners have made. The craps table was empty so we bought in. I have to say this was the single most pleasant experience I've had playing craps in years, if not ever. The dealers were great. They were upbeat and personable and dealt a clean fast game. Had a monster hand, and as it progressed, even the TGS came over and was cheering us on. The experience was so good, it prompted me to send an email to the GM at Siena. In all my years of playing, I've never done that. If not for some family obligations Sunday, I might have booked a room at the Siena, so I could stay another night and play some more.

Hopefully I can get back later this summer. I really enjoy Reno when the weather's nice.

Was it 10x odds like it used to be?

Or as I suspect, Sands is now only 10x game in town.

Thanks for the lowdown, Irish! I'm hoping to scope out the Siena this summer; was it busy there?

Lily,

It wasn't busy. It was a Saturday afternoon. Really wasn't busy anywhere. The Siena has a long row to hoe. It's location is just far enough off the beaten path so that you really must want to go there. What I didn't see was the seedy crowd that inhabited the old Siena before it's demise. I don't think they've quite figured out what they want to do with the casino floor. There's still some open spaces that could contain either more table games or more slot machines. But overall, they're going above and beyond in the customer service department. The reason I wrote the letter to the GM is that I want that effort rewarded. I remember going to the M in Vegas right after it opened. The staff and service was crazy good. By the time I returned 6 months later, the M was just like any other casino customer service wise. If the employees are going to put out that much effort to go the extra mile, then management has to go the extra mile to get people in the casino and acknowledge the staffs efforts.

JD. If I remember correctly, the odds were 4X,6X,8X. So pretty decent. Sorry I don't care if the Sands offers 100X odds. I wouldn't go in the place if I was offered $50 free and someone held a gun to my head. The Sands sweats winners. (example : http://www.sweatthemoney.com/sands1.html )

I can see it from my room when I stay in Harrah's so it's really not too far... no further than Silver Legacy from Harrah's, I would imagine. We did not go there when it was previously open as we had plenty of choices right on VA Street.

However, upon your shining recommendation about the staff, I will certainly make a visit in to see what's happening....
