I checked out the link looking for Cherrie's picture, and I believe she must be in this picture of the Virginia City Christian Temperance Society.
She is not the one on the left with all the cash sticking out of the top of her dress, nor the one on the right with bruises on the inside of her legs, but the cutie in the middle with the devils hat?

JD- I don't know how you do it. I am good for a couple of days of this type of activity, but after about three days they may have to call in for help to get me home.

Cherrie- we would love to hear from you....

Lily- I am sure it has to be picture #2. At least that is how I would look after that kind of trip.

I'll have to ask before I tell everyone which is CHerrie. But the old white haired guy in the miner's hat is BAX and used to do the mine tours in the back of the Pondo. He can often be found at the bar and if you want to hear some stories of the good old days, buy him a beer.

I have trouble spending all day everyday at a machine (unless I'm winning), so here are some of the things I did yesterday or at other times that do NOT involve gambling:

I would normally recommend starting at the North End of town...maybe "The Way it Was Museum". It has a great collection of old pictures, artifacts and maps...including a 3D image of all of the tunnels, shafts, and long gone mining adits under your feet.

Pick one side of the steet and wander south....Some shops sell crap but therre will be someof interest to everyone. One has toy trains...old and new. Some bars, some video poker and slots. Old saloons are cool and by you get to the Bookstore (run by the Chief of the Volunteer Fire Dept) you'll want some books onthe history. Yesterday, I bought a book of old photos I've never seen before, "Images of America, "Virginia City and The Big Bonanza". In it you'll see images of long ago of the same building you were just exploring in ($ 22 but worth it.)

Also "Jump Her Lively, Boys" (NO....IT'S NOT THAT) About Old fire fighting in towns in Nevada that tended to burndown every few years.

Even the Fire Chief's wife at the bookstore asks why I'm outta $ 2 bills....lol. (Bring plenty Lilly)

Eventually cross the street and go back....

Repeat until you know EVERYTHING and EVERYBODY .

There's few old mansions off C street that survived various fires and decay. Some people like that stuff but I prefer the new steam engine trips to Carson and back. See if they stop in Gold hill so you can check out the Gold Hill Hotel

http://www.goldhillhotel.net/saloon.htm

http://www.goldhillhotel.net/history1.htm

http://www.goldhillhotel.net/history3.htm

There's also the Chollar Mine Tour (if you want to compare to the tour in the Pondo) walking distance from C Street. Do try to see past C Street.

There tons of literature everywhere you look...use it. Ask the locals, get out and walk around...unless you're winning.

I'm going out to breakfast,... a bloody mary at the Mark Twain..then The Palace.

later.

"36 Cognacs, Brandies, Eau-de-Vies" at the Gold Hill Saloon.... oooo-wee! I may have to make a swing thru this summer.

Thanks, JD, for the ongoing inspirations and revelations....

Oh they have all that stuff at the Pondo. and the Gold Hill Hotel is nice (oldesst digs in the whole state) but a little isolated (which is sometimes a GOOD thing)....

But I do have an important update.

There is a new botique hoel open in VC that is a wonderfully restored old hotel. I just today got a tour from the owner and if you'd like to really go back in time, check this out:

http://www.tahoehousehotel.com/tahoe_house_1_008.htm

This building was falling down a few years ago....right on c street some with a balcony. TOO COOL and the owner deserves credit...everywhere you turn. MUCH nicer (to me) than a Peppermill suite.

So Lilly, when the Dog asks where you want to stay....

Reply like a woman... "BOTH"

JD, thank you for the posts. I have really enjoyed reading them. you have a way of "embellishing" the facts that stirs the blood of we red-blooded Reno dramblers and gambkers.

It was enough for my lawn to grow to about 18"...damn!

I vaugely seem to recall dancing at the Pondo Sat. night to Lady and the Tramps band (highly recommended) ...but I'll have to get confirmation. That would signify a serious deterioration in my judgement that's usually to be avoided.

I haven't counted my dough yet, but I got home just fine. When I went over Willamette Pass on the way down, I had A LOT of snow on the side of the road. On return, it was GONE...except in the shadows.

The owner of the Mark Twain regrets my leaving (I think) as he failed to get ALL of my Sat. winnings back. While he did reclaim a goodly part, he also unknowingly bought many, many drinks for the locals who promised to rub it in after my departure.

In fact the Mark Twain Casino gave me far better luck than anything in Reno.

As details return to my frontal cortex, I'll be glad to share.

Right now, I MUST MOW MY LAWN....NOW!

Bachelorette party review later.
