BC Dave’s and Janice’s Nov 2010 Trip report

We set out early on our drive to Seattle on Nov. 1st. Conditions on the way down weren’t great….. dark, rainy, heavy traffic etc. I took comfort in knowing that once the plane was above the clouds we’d be in the sun and we’d have fine weather for the rest of our mini holiday.

And it worked out way. Our five days in Reno were blessed with beautiful weather. I had booked a compact car from Enterprise thru Priceline and each day we buzzed around in it a bit.

A view of the Badlands north of Reno. Early in the last century some smart guy saw this and dreamed, “legalize gambling, build some casinos and they will come!” Unfortunately now the rest of the country (or is it world?) has legalized it too.

Check in at the Peppermill was, basically smooth and quick. We were in the Tuscany tower once again. Initially we received a room on the 4th floor but I called the front desk and asked if we could have a room on a higher floor. No problem, the friendly staff reassigned us to a great room on the 14th floor and we were happy. Much better view and no street noise.

Downstairs for Breakfast at the Pep's Buffet.

On day two we toured the National Automobile Museum. (Saved a dollar each with our VisitReno coupon!)

Janice found a shiny black compact that she wanted to drive home.

Later we caught up on things with John, Charlie and Higgins.

Higgins on his way to apply at the new Sienna.

We were suprised later that evening by the arrival of Jerry and Becky. I didn't get a picture. Jerry, please e-mail me some of your pics so I can include them.

To be continued..

BCD, thanks for the TR. I enjoyed it and loved your pics.
We were richly blessed and totally surprised to find you there. What a shock for me to walk thru the casino, look down at one of my favored machines and, "voila" or "blimey" (whatever) I see Dave and "Kitty". I was floored (but maybe that was the 10-12 Fat Tars I had injested.

Alas, the sad part of the story: I am devastated..... Drum roll please....
I arrived home in OR WITHOUT my camera. I have been unable to find it nor understand what happened.

We will have to do this again for new pics.

Still, it does not dampen the enjoyment of spending some time with you guys. You are special. Reno is a great place to make new friends.

I don't have anything else to add but:

I just checked my number of posts and have to get the "devil's number" off of here. It says that I have 666 posts. I think JD made me do it. It couldn't have been Mammary Gander cause he has been MIA for quite some time.

(Yeah, I know, Hawk it is a little shady but let it slide, OK?)

Thanks for the report and photos, Dave. Will you have some of VC?
Higgins heard one of my friends say that the Siena was "for the birds", so he applied for a job in housekeeping as a feather duster.

Hard to believe...
today my wife took a phone call from a store in CA where I KNEW I had lost my camera. They said, "We have Jerry's camera". Now this is two weeks after the loss and my phone call.
Here's the story... Man comes into store, hands over my camera, states: "I found this in your store a couple of weeks ago. I have been watching the papers for someone posting the loss. Since nothing appeared in the paper, I am returning the camera to you."

Was this guy simply hoping for a reward? Since the camera was useless to him without all the bells and whistles, he ultimately decided to do the "right thing".

So, Dave, the pics may or may not be in the camera still. Only time will tell. Either way, IF I do get the camera back, it will be likely after I have begun my snowbird trip and will have no timely/regular computer use.

Well, I feel great right now. Spent an hour in the spa. I hear it running and must stop "renoing" and go turn it off before the neighbor calls me on the phone to inform me, "Hey, Jerry, did you know your spa is still running?"

More trip reports are needed to keep the board going. someone must be going to Reno.

I sure wish it were me; work hasn't called in a while!

But I heartily applaud, as always, Dave's terrific photo eye and wacktacular custom-animation Avatars - thanks for yet another riveting trip report!

I've got some more to add to my trip report but have to find the time and energy.

Jerry, that's great to hear your camera has been located. I'm sure the pictures will still be there.

Thanks, Stan, for the favorable comments on my trip report thus far. John and I are still "mulling' over which Virginia City pics we want posted.

Allison, the call has gone out from the moderator for trip reports!

You've got Virgina City Pics? Post 'em all! (Maybe the slightly smaller ones so I don't have to use the zoom resize in my browser - yeh, that extra click is a lot of work!)

But it's been a long time since my pilgrimage to Virgina City and I'd love to see some newer photos - thanks in advance!

Stan,
I found that I really didn't take that many pictures in Virginia City, this trip, after all. So I have compilied some shots from the last few trips and hope you'll enjoy them.

Driving from Reno to Virginia city on that twisty section of the 341, there's a small park with a lookout that offers spectacular views of Reno's valley. Here's a telephoto shot of our favorite town taken from "Geiger Lookout Wayside Park." That's what Google maps calls it anyway.

As you round the thousandth corner, suddenly there's Virginia City. That's Saint Mary's in the Mountains church with the tall steeple.

As you roll in, at the North end of town, is the town's graveyard. Historic, rustic and scary on Halloween.

The Way It Was Museum near the north end of town. I've never been in.

Virginia City has lots of ................. (old buildings). Guess you knew that.

So ya find a place to park in the middle of town, get outta the car and look north.

And south.

Cowboys! On their way to straighten out the bad guys down by the corral. Or have I got the wrong town?

The Delta Saloon. A nice place to gamble a bit, wet your whistle and kill yourself ??!! at the Suicide Table. Fortunately the table games are closed.

[/i]

The Delta Saloon's Bar (not bad eh?)

They'll let anbody in.

On the other side of "C" street is the famous "Bucket of Blood Saloon"

Inside, another great bar.

A couple of blocks east of the centre of town is Saint Mary's Church.

One of it's stained glass windows. Kinda like the Peppermill? Maybe Not.

I have two unidentified pics on my desktop sent to me anonymously for use on the board -- as I see fit.
Howsomever, I don't know how to get them on here. They have no ID, such as a URL or Http or whatever -- just two pics sitting on my desktop. That is as far as I can get them.
I cannot figger how to copy them onto here. Ideas???[/url]
