Well starting to catch up on things and I figured I better post this before I forget most the details. (Even then some parts are a little fuzzy!) If you don't want details we had a blast! This is a long one.
Arrived early Thurs. AM great flight on Alaska Airlines. Got to the Sands just in time for tip off at 9 AM. Yeah Jerry the sportsbook didn't blow me away by any means but it was a heck of a lot better then what they had. We checked in and our rooms weren't quite ready but the people at the desk were really friendly and put a rush on it.
Sat down and watched some games. Smoke got to us so we headed over to the Eldorado. Eldorado is a nice place to watch the games as they have quite a few tvs. but they are TIGHT as a drum when it comes to comping you drinks for your sports bet. The Sands is the best at comping you drinks and the Eld. just won't. They don't care if you bet $100 they still won't give you a drink. Silver Legacy will do it if you bet $20. Anyways for those that want to know! Had Pud Thai at Choices rest. in the Eldorado and it is the BEST. Buddies had the steak and lobster for $12 and loved it.
Back to the Sands to check in. Our rooms were great. They were on the top floor and very clean. My buddies couldn't believe how big and clean they were for the price. We then went to the Cal Neva to find Mustang Mike and Bama Ben. Couldn't find either. Walked through a couple of times the place was packed. Sorry but I sure did look for you guys. I especially thought I'd see Ben as Alabama was playing at the time but no such luck!
More hoops and then grabbed a sandwich at the Silver Legacy sports book. Great Sand. for $5. Spent the rest of the night at the Siena playing black jack. Man I love that place. The drinks kept coming and it was all single deck black jack. Went to bed by midnight as we were tired!
Next day- New Day! St. Patricks Day here is a good thing! Man I love Reno. Caught a bagel and coffee at the Sands it was good. Made some sports bets at the Sands then headed to the Eldo and Silver Legacy for some more, yeah you guessed it basketball.
Had lunch at the Eldorado buffet and it was awesome. That China wok there is great. We got stuffed. Later we went to the Siena to play Craps $2 10 X odds is by far the best game in town. My buddy and a few others get on a roll next thing you know it is 2 AM we still haven't eaten and we are all ahead $. I won a few hundred, my other two friends were playing bigger and they were up a $1000. Couldn't believe it. Outside it is snowing and life is good. We went to the Coffee shop at the Eldorado and had a dinner/breakfast. It was crowded and the food was good.Time for bed!
Saturday our last whole day in Reno! Same AM routine - I like this. I guess the highlight of the day was watching both the Huskies and the Zags get big wins. We missed a $500 parlay by 2 stinking points! (We all picked a game and pitched in $5.) We sure had fun rooting for it to happen. Back to the Siena and they comped us dinner at their coffee shop it was great. What a club sandwich! My buddy hits a pick 4 Keno ticket for $315. We are really excited now. Back to the craps and blackjack. We all go back and forth when the Craps table finally turns for the better and the two big gamblers in our group did well again. We had a blast!
Sunday we got up made our bets. Checked in our bags and headed back to the Siena. I told the guy how much I had heard about Lexies Champagne buffet so we all decided to go. (after some gambling of course.) Not wise as the Craps table was COLD (should have tried betting the dark side)! Blackjack was a struggle as well but the Brunch was the real deal. Wow now that is some spread. The King crab legs, salmon, prawns, crepe station, and that is just the beginning. It was VERY good. We loved it! Most of it was comped.
Time got away from us and I had to finish my bloody Mary but we sprinted back to the Sands to catch our shuttle. We made it and had a nice flight home. Coming down is more fun than leaving!
A few observations- The Sands is hard to beat for the price and the quality of the rooms that we had. Casino was pretty smokey but everyone there was nice and early in the day it was fun to play some black jack. They do have 10 X odds but you have to bet $5 min. on craps. Didn't hear the train at all and the walk was well lit and there was enough foot traffic that I didn't at all feel nervous about stumbling back at night. They are great about serving you drinks ( a little too good at times!) if you are playing table games. I can't comment on the slots there as none of us played those there.
Eldorado and Silver Legacy- I really love the food at both places but I can't for the life of me understand why people play their table games there.Did I mention there don't like to give out drinks to people at the sports book? I know you may be thinking that is cheap but to me it is just the principle. I am there to gamble and they should give me free drinks while I gamble there dangit! Confused I counted 20 yes 20 or real close to that Rolling Eyes , special "single deck" black Jack tables. Oh yeah and it does pay 6:5 if you happen to get a black jack. Last year at the same time there was a few tables but NO way near as many as there was this year. The worst part is they were darn near packed! I am thinking man you guys are nuts! Head to the Siena, Cal Neva, Sands, Fitzgeralds, or even the Circus Circus. But they were packed. Tried $10 on the Wheel of fortune quarter slot machine. I can totally see why you all love to play those games as you keep thinking one more pull.............. Anyways I did get it up to $30 and then proceeded to lose it. That was fun though.
Cal Neva- seemed real busy at the table games and people were sure having fun there. I did find one of my favorite Watermelon $1 slot machine there and it was classic as I told the dealer about the old day when I would play bj then if I lost stumble over the watermelon machine and win $10 to $20 and go back and play some more. Well I walked over with $1 and hit it for $20 then cashed out. My buddies were laughing! Nice for one pull. They liked to serve you drinks there too!
Siena- please remember I am not playing slots but I really love this place. Drinks were frequent and everyone was sure nice. Food is great there as well. I would like to stay there sometime. I suppose it helps when you do well there but we really had fun there. There comps there were generous as they got a couple meals for us.
Overall I came home down a $100. Which is a win for me and two in our group came home way ahead. We are already looking forward to heading back down next year! Wow we had a blast! Reno is NOT Vegas and I am sure glad! I'll take Reno any day! Cool If any of you have questions I would love to answer or at least try!
Take care
Wink

Thanks for the post, Dave. It's refreshing to read one that is all positive for a change. We've been having more than our share of bummer trips, so it's good to know a great time can still be had in Reno!

Yeah thanks John. We really had a ball. Next year (of course if you want to ) I am going to make sure to pick a time and place to meet up with you & Ben and hopefully a few others for a beverage. That is about the only thing missing from this trip. Very Happy
Take care,
Dave
