I've been sitting around too much lately so at lunch time I took a stroll along the river to stretch my legs. As I passed through the Siena I was disheartened to see NO TABLE GAMES. An attendant told me they had all been removed and weren't expected to be returned.

The decline continues.

Twill be interesting to see what develops.
We have been getting emails which do not excite me at all.
I tried to go in there to eat and use up some comps. The air actually "gagged" us. It is incredibly bad. No one should subject themselves to such conditions in the interest of good health.

While strolling through, I checked the poker machines. They were mostly 6-5 machines, regardless of the game. There are not enough idiots around to fill seats at such machines. Waitresses offered us drinks but we declined.

Now, today, I get an email telling us they have responded to requests and added 100% VP machines. Well, they certainly need to. I used to play there a LOT when they had any decent pay tables anywhere in the casino.

Because of the cancer-laden air, I doubt that I will check out those "alleged" good pay tables.
Therefore, my comps are going down the tubes. And I have a bunch. I don't like to lose comps but can't justify the hazards otherwise. Plus they cut the drink service back so badly that it is no fun to go there.

Everything I have seen from them is counter-productive. Can you spell, STUPID?

Here are more details from this morning's RGJ:

http://www.rgj.com/article/20100610/BIZ/100610026

Actually, slots only casinos are not unheard of. In Reno, Baldini's, Tamarack Junction and Gold Dust West come to mind. One thing they have in common is that I don't see any reason I would want to go to any of them.

Terrible news, the removal of the pit.

For a long while, the Sienna's craps table was my favorite in all the world. I know I did my part to keep it running. And then some Sad

Sad.

Odd...the decline of the Siena just happens to coincide with their decision to stop inviting me down for comped weekends.

Bouncing me from the VIP list just happened to come when they misunderstood my request for a review of the parking lot security tapes.

Which just happened to come after my car was heavily dinged in the Siena parking lot.

As a result of all this....I have a LOT more money in my checking account...which is why the Siena is now struggling !!

I was really lucky my car got clipped after all. It's saved me thousands.

Looks like it has gone from bad to worse for the Siena. They are now stealing from the state.

I was in Reno recently for the first time in over 2 years. I was shocked when I went to the Siena and learned that there were no more table games!

I actually won the last couple of times I played there. I have maybe 40 or 50 bucks of theirs. Sorry to hear about the dealers losing their jobs. I hope they're able to turn the place around.

The article posted by thegambler mentions $135,000 arrears in room tax payments. Looks like they are also about $165,000 in property taxes. This article says current management is blaming their predecessors, and plan to offer a repayment plan in order to save their license at a meeting later today. It doesn't mention whether a decision will be made today. I would expect there will be some time to deliberate, then a recommendation made, and if it is to revoke the license the Siena will appeal and it will still be a while before anything is final.

...And in the meantime, patrons will enjoy a no-table-games, slots-'n-VP-only casino, where the staff will no doubt be indifferent, if not downright hostile.

The restaurants, if any, will serve super-scaled down, utility-grade beef, and other such fare obtained in bulk from a gray-market, costco-style supplier.

Drinks, when available, will be served grudgingly and with equal parts booze and water - and that goes for the beer, too.

The video cameras on the parking areas, which they would never let you see before, will simply be replaced with toy cameras that have no batteries or functionality.

Sounds delightful!

The gaming control board today voted to suspend the Siena's license for failing to maintain enough liquidity to pay potential jackpots. They then immediately stayed the suspension, apparently to give the Siena time to negotiate with the Club Cal Neva to take over management of the casino operations. I'm sure more details will follow.

" I'm sure more details will follow. " I am afraid that the details to follow are a locked door. If anyone has any comps, cash back or anything to gain from the Siena, you better get over their quick before they are gone. A tough situation for the Siena.

From my trip report from this past weekend:

While standing there at Cal-Neva's cage, I noticed two handwritten signs behind the counter - one said "Do not accept chips from Sienna. 6/11/2010" and then one beneath it said, "Do not cash any checks from Sienna. 6/22/2010".

Interestingly enough, two days later, the local paper reported that Sienna was in talks with Cal-Neva to run Sienna.... (Sienna had their license suspended that day - 7/1, but got a stay when they proved they had enough to pay jackpots for the weekend).

I got the impression from the RGJ article that the Reno Visitors Center and the local politicos were quite worried about losing ANOTHER casino downtown.

Oh, one other thing I forgot to mention in my trip report - the outside lights of Fitzgerald were all lit up at night..... anyone got any word on what's happening there??

I had made mention of the Fitzgerald's lights in my TR from mid-May. The marquee had also gone from being blank to "Closed for Renovation". Very surprised that RGJ doesn't have anything posted.

Then again, I wasn't going to pay to check their archives.

You're right, MJames, you did mention that... I don't remember it being lit when we were there a couple weeks ago, so maybe it's a random thing?

And I forgot to mention that we also stopped in Verdi to see the Bonnie & Clyde Death Car on display at Terrible's. There was an impressive amount of bullet holes in it and a shirt "authenticated' to have been worn by ol' Clyde during the shootout.

A sign said, "Please do not touch the death car." For some reason, I find this amusing.

Terrible's gave us $5 in free play each for signing up for their card, so we went ahead and lost that, plus a few bucks more before heading out.

And I swear next time, I will actually shoot photos in Reno and maybe of the Death Car, too. I've taken all my gear each time and each time, I'm too distracted by all the flashing and blinking and dinging and ringing of Reno to concentrate on photography.
