Think you know the best bet in the casino? What is the worst game for the player in the casino?

I was reading the holds for the state of Nevada in 2009, and I was a little surprised. Now they lump all slots - denominations, video poker, video keno etc. and the hold percentage for the casinos last year was 6.1%. All table games held a collective 12.04%.

So what do you think is the best game to play? Black Jack? No- that came in 5th. Craps? No 6th place. ............ And the winner is BINGO. Bingo? Shocked Shocked

The worst game is no surprise to me--- KENO.

Check out the numbers: http://gaming.unlv.edu/media/2009_NV_gaming.pdf

You also have to consider the speed of play. Although keno has a poor rate of return, it also goes very slowly so the amount wagered per hour is less than any other game. Similarly, mini baccarat at $5 per hand might actually cost more than the full size table at $25 because of the increased speed of the game.

Sign in casino: "In case of terrorist attack please go to our keno lounge. Nothing's ever been hit there yet."

Players generally fixate on house edge or PC. The percentage paid back to a player. Line bets in craps when max odds (10x or better) is most often the best bet for the player. Unlike 21, craps never has any player percentage edge. 21 can have a tiny edge in favor of the skilled player...which is not me when there are free drinks about.

But the casino wants to know the drop and hold.

So while a craps player has the closest thing to a "fair game" (1.4% house edge dropping to .18% when taking full 10x odds on line bets), he's still likely to lose more because he make more and larger bets in an hour.

Keno on the other hand may have a HUGE 25% house edge on each bet, a keno player would rarely has as many bets (or as large) as even a begining craps player.

HOLD is the percentage of chips that the casino keeps as a ratio to the buy ins. If a player buys $ 1,000 and walks away with $ 600, the hold would be 40%... regardless of the game.

I'll let LV Bear describe the house edge for the advantage 21 player.

Remano and JD- how right you are to point out there is more to the story than just raw hold statistics. The numbers do not take in to account the strategy (or lack of), or skill level (or lack of) of a player. These hold numbers are probably good numbers to look at if you are a casino owner, but can be misleading for a player. I still find them interesting however.
