Hi folks....well, we just returned from our first Reno visit and I wanted to write a short trip report since everyone was so nice to share info with us in preparation for our vacation.

Hotel - we stayed at Harrahs. As posted on this board, the room was small but sufficient. My only complaint is no safes in the room. That should be standard in every casino hotel room! The people at Harrahs were terrific, everyone we met. We're not foodies, so we mainly at the buffet and it was terrific for both breakfast and dinner.

Side Trips - took a walk down the strip to Eldorado, Silver Legacy and Circus Circus. Loved the SL and plan on staying there on our next visit to Reno. CalNeva was generous to us, won a couple of hundred on a penny machine and actually walked out with it...lol! Took a cab over to Peppermill and all I can say is I"m glad I wasn't drinking...that place is visual overload! I felt like I was inside a pinball machine with all the lights and mirrors. Hubby won $400.00 at the bar playing 1.00 video poker, but we gave it back to them....somebody has to help keep the economy going.

Tahoe - tried on two separate occasions to book a tour over to Lake Tahoe. The tour company cancelled on both Sunday and Monday because of lack of interest. When we went to the bell captain to get our deposit back, we saw at least three other names on the list and that was only at Harrahs, so I'm guessing other hotels had some sign-ups as well. Guess they wanted a full bus (won't recommend them to anyone).

We rented a car on Monday and drove over to Tahoe. I was not disappointed after hearing so many wonderful things. That day alone was worth the trip. It is so beautiful. Can't wait to go back in the summer!!

All in all, had a wonderful trip. The people of Reno were all very nice and friendly and made our trip memorable. Thanks to all on the board for your reports and information. It helped us alot! Take care and good luck!

I enjoyed the TR. Thanks for posting it.

Regarding safes, most hotels offer a safe deposit box service either at the check in desk or the bell desk. It's not as convenient as in-room safes but still secure. Then again, I never have enough money to worry about, so I guess it doesn't matter. <G>

I'm glad you rented a car and got up to Tahoe. Going on your own is better than those guided tours anyway. And, yes, get there in the summer. There is something special about floating in the water as you look up and see the snow capped mountains all around you. Yes, you do have to endure water temperatures that are best described as "bracing," but the experience is worth it.

Thanks for posting!

Glad to hear you finally made it to Tahoe. I have always wanted to see it in the winter.

Can i ask what tower you stayed in at harrahs? East or West?

Yes, Ali, you MAY ask but here on Reno Visit.com, we have a policy of:
Don't ask, don't tell!!
Sounds better to me than LV with their: "What happens in LV, stays in LV".
Don't you think?

In summary: When you've seen one hotel room, you've seen 'em all.
We don't (hopefully) go to the Biggest Little for "the ROOMS".

Right on, BirdMan.
We go to Reno for the BIRDS. Better than saying Reno is "FOR the birds".

We're always glad to hear about it when new visitors have a good trip - thanks for letting us know how it went!

I've always liked the Silver Legacy, though not everyone here has shared my enthusiasm - but we can all agree that the Cal-Neva is the place to play.

Thanks for all your replies. We stayed in the West tower, which was very convenient, right off the elevator and into the casino....although it took me a couple of days to figure out which way to go, the set up at Harrahs being very confusion (especially when you are drinking..lol).

I'm not a big fan of the safe deposit boxes. I like to have access to my gambling money (not that I'm a big spender) and leave some in the room so I have to go up for it to slow me down if I'm losing. That's why the safe is better.

Again, Reno was well worth the visit. Thanks again all! Chris

Thanks for posting, and what Remano said, do get up to Tahoe in the summer. My fav is Zephyr Cove a few miles from the casinos in South Shore. They have outside seating and music going, volleyball to watch, ales to be drank, and the mesmerizing view of blue sky/lake and snow topped mountains. It'll turn you into a poet, or a drunk for not wanting to leave...

As for the rooms, I've decided there is no East tower at Harrah's. It's all trickery, done with mirrors, to make them seem bigger than they are.
