[b]I have just joined this board and hope to pick the brains of locals and other people who go to Reno regularly. I did my first Reno Trip in 76 on my 21st bday. Have been back a few times over the years; but last trip was 92 and I am sure it has changed a lot since then.

I will be coming in June with my wife and our 2 daughters and their husbands. I am leaning towards the Peppermill as it seems to be the nicest place. It appears to also have more things my kids would like.

I will be driving from Wash State, so wheels are not a problem and I hope to see other sights in the area. Am interested in any good local eating spots or other places you would recommend.

Hi Mailguy
Welcome to our board. I don't think anybody noticed your post way down in the General Chatter/ Comments area.

You can't go wrong with the Peppermill. It's truly unique with it's wild neon splashed everywhere. Nothing even in Vegas like the "Pep"!

Speaking of good food, the Peppermill has lots of it. I've never been disappointed with the coffee shop, the buffet or the steak house. I don't have any experience with their myriad of other eating establishments. There's good food to be had at all the casinos including the downtown ones.

Hope you enjoy our board. We get more than a little silly at times but if you stay tuned long enough you'll catch us mumbling about serius stuff too.

The Peppermill is a good choice, especially with kids. Their new pool area is the nicest in town and sure to be a hit with the kids, and they have a large video arcade that they might like. There are enough restaurants and entertainment venues there that you could spend a whole week without ever leaving the property if you wanted.

Then there are the usual touristy things to do - trip to Lake Tahoe, ride up the Heavenly gondola or take a cruise on the lake, drive over to Virginia City, etc. The Eldorado blues festival is June 27 next year, if you're here that late. The kids might like Wild Island water park in Sparks or the Marina.

For food away from the casinos we like La Famiglia at First & Lake downtown for Italian, Palais du Jade for Chinese, El Adobe on Arroyo just off S. Virginia for Mexican but there's lots of other good ones too.

Have an enjoyable trip.
