R just sent me the plans of downtown Reno with the baseball stadium and shopping area. Once he explained it's location to me based on places I KNEW, it looked pretty nice. Then...I got to thinking about the new plaza area over by the Reno sign, and the new "boutique" hotel and well, what if it all works out just as planned?

What if this works out like the Silver Legacy did for downtown (for a while), bringing new revenue and interest in? What if downtown turns out to be THE place to go in Reno? Could happen....

I'm going to be hopeful and watch I think....but the next few years are going to be scary for them.

As I have said before....Gambling will NEVER be a reason to go to Reno again. I have had so much fun in this city. But honestly, I am not sure I will ever come back. Not worth the effort with all the Indian casinos so much closer to home. It used to be fun when you ould make the loop and hit 10-15 different casinos. Bit to drive/fly all the way there from Wash State to visit a couple casinos. Why?

Reno in ten years will most likely have 3-4 less casinos than it has today.

Reno Lady,

I hope you are right and Reno takes an upturn in 10 years. Hopefully all of the work they are doing downtown will pay off and Reno will once again be the place to visit and gamble. Either way, we will still be going because I love Reno.

Erin

The basic problem is that the Indian casinos just don't provide good value.

As long as that situation stays the same, Reno will continue to be a desirable destination for gamers who like to avoid the shearing that is Vegas.

I live in Fresno Ca., home of the triple A "Fresno Grizllies" baseball team. Our city bult a new ballpark a few years ago, which was suppose to revitalize our downtrown area. It hasn't, attendance is poor except on $1 beer night, and it has not met the bond pay-back goals. People come to the game, then go back home without spending any money at the nearby businesses. Most new business has now closed because the sales weren't there. I don't see too many Reno out-of towners taking in a ballgame, there just isn't the interest, and I doubt one teams fans will travel to another city to attend, except for maybe during the playoffs. Minor league baseball is a great value ($7 to $15) tickets, and the parks are small, making every seat great. but I don't see it making a big impact.

I apologize for not writing in this spot sooner. I was down in Reno in October and just haven't visited this site lately.

I'm not experienced with the California indian casinos and would be interested to read how their BJ and VP compares with Reno. I've been in a couple of Oregon indian casinos and just TRY to find single deck BJ. Or even double deck. I've only begun to play VP recently, but I would venture to say the paybacks in Reno are superior to what one might find in Oregon.

I enjoy receiving offers in the mail from Reno. I continue to fly down every couple of months or so. It is a very pleasant diversion. I can spend as much time as I want in a very reasonably priced hotel room, but usually I start the day early at the casino to have my pick of tables and machines before more people arrive. I enjoy hitting movie theaters or hopping on buses going in all directions to visit even more casinos or malls.

I'll be back down in January and really look forward to visiting my favorite casinos and restaurants. I feel very sad about the casinos that have closed in the past 10-15 years but will make the best of what downtown Reno offers.
