This report is a little overdue. Guess I need a gambling fix and the closest I can come to it, is to write a report. We left Raleigh on American AirLines, Sunday, January 22nd at 6:00 a.m. We were to fly to Chicago and get to Reno at 10:30 am pacific time in time for Gary to see his beloved Steelers play Denver. Our quick two hour flight to Chicago ended up taking 28 hours. We couldn’t land in Chicago due to fog. We circled until we had to refuel in Champagne. We were 7th in line for refueling, one at a time. Three hours later we land in Chicago. No connecting flight available to Reno. They booked us on an American flight to Atlanta with a Delta connection to Reno to arrive at midnight. The Steelers/Bronco game is on the monitors and Gary watches the first half while I try to find out what happens to our checked in luggage. Gary goes to the restroom before we board for Atlanta. I have good news and bad news, the Steelers scored a touchdown and our flight to Atlanta has been cancelled due to storms in Atlanta. We went to a reservation desk and they put us on the flight the next day that were to take today. AA gives a “Distressed Passenger” voucher for a discount on a Marriott hotel room and a $20 food voucher. We head to the bar, watch the rest of the Steelers game and go to the hotel to watch the Carolina Panthers football game. We had a good night’s sleep and a good comped breakfast and we were finally off to Reno. How, we have no idea, our luggage arrived in Reno before we did.

We checked into the Peppermill, it was off to the slots. The Peppermill is doing a major $260 million addition to the casino, new restaurants, spa, pool and an all suite rooms addition. It didn’t bother us in the least as to congestion and noise. We played everything, Lobster Mania, Cleo, Hex Breaker, Star Wars, Money Storm (that was way too good for bonus rounds. One bonus gave me over 30 spins.) Antique Appraisal, All That Glitters, and the progressive 100 line Jackpot Party. The WMS gaming machines is taking some getting used to. The Jackpot Party bonus, is displayed on an overhead display. Seemed kind of strange to me. Like anything else I’ll get used to it. We played hard and went to bed down for the count this first day. We ate some of the best fried chicken ever at the Coffee Shop. Four pieces of chicken, salad or soup, mashed potatos and biscuits for $4.99.

The next day, our friends Dennis and Mary came in from Detroit. It has become a tradition of going to Reno together last couple of years. It’s been great spending time with them. I had a Sports Club match coupon of $50 that I bet on the Michigan State-Michigan Basketball game. That was fun to sit and watch a game that you had money on. Sorry to say, I didn’t win that bet. I was introduced to Dirty Martinis that rang my clock the next day. It was a slow day for me on Wednesday. I just can't run with the big dogs anymore. We went to Atlantis and played there and had a comped buffet. It was good and the price was right. We played a lot of video poker and held our own most of the time.

Gary discovered Mystical Mermaid at the Peppermill. He wore it out. He ended up a session with 60 bonus rounds that netted him $200 bonus session. Poor guy he couldn’t get the song “Splish Splash I was taking a bath” out of his head most of the trip. After we got home I would hum splish splash that set him off :lol We had a great meal at the Steak House on a $50 food coupon the Pep sent to us.

We had about $150 in free play. Gary did well the last day turning that into a couple of hundred turn around for us. We went to high stakes but it was a little too rich for us. I saw one woman feeding $100 bills into a 3 spin $100 slot machine. I couldn’t watch for too long because I saw over $3,000 go in and nothing came out. I hope she recouped some of it. It didn’t phase her. She did tell her husband to go away as he was making her nervous.

We played a lot of video poker that saved me from going through my daily bank roll. I didn't have the slot luck that I've had in the past couple of trips. But, hey, I always look at it as pure entertainment. Winning is just the cherry.

When it was all said and done. The room, meals were comped. Our hotel charges were $10 for taxes and 2 phone calls. Other than our flight, tip money and gambling allowance it was a win all around.
Next trip maybe a short weekend in Charleston WV. We have a trip planned to visit Gary's family Missouri in June with KC casinos. Dennis and Mary a tour of MidWest casinos (Ill, Iowa, Missouri) in August and a trip to Colorado in the fall. Too little vacation time and too little money. North Carolina is tough on easy gambling destinations. Thanks for reading!
