Ok Board a few questions for you all.
Why in the heck did the Peppermill drop out of the free room drawing?
Did I miss the newsletter this month or did John run out of jokes?
Where in the world is John??
Have any of you ever gambled at Boomtown? Did you like it?
Remano who has the best Seafood buffet? I am going to stay downtown but I would be willing to try Boomtown for their lobster buffet. Has anyone on the board ever tried that one yet?
Is the trench done?
Did Brews Brothers really bring back their happy hour?
Any more news on the sale of the Fitz? These are things I think about.................
Thanks for your help in answering these questions. Inquiring minds want to know!
Wink Dave

Hi Dave,
I can't answer many but will do what I can.

Where is John? I heard that he went to sleep while his robotic vacuum was cleaning his aviary and got sucked up into the I, Robot>..

Did John run out of jokes? Twisted Evil
John will never run out of jokes. Trouble is you may not care to hear most of them. Wink

Is the trench finished? Yes, they are doing landscaping now around the track areas. I just stayed at the Fitz and you can still hear the trains. They just don't blow their whistles. Works fine for me, though, cause I grew up with train whistles.

Have any of you ever gambled at Boomtown? Did you like it?
I have gambled there a few times and never liked it. I don't like the casino either. Never bothered to eat there.

You didn't ask but: Right now I am a little burned out on Reno because all of the machines everywhere are "screwed down so tight". I just don't get any play for my money. I seem to spend more time each trip in my room reading my book. I don't go to Reno to read.

I don't know the answers to any of these questions except one. John is "dancing" at Shooters most nights. Rumor has it the line-up for Shooters goes well past the Arch on any given evening now. BC Dave

I like Boomtown's blackjack. They deal single deck, $5 minimums, blackjack pays 3:2 and you can double down on any first two cards, but dealer hits soft 17 and you can't re-split aces. Their video poker is just average. Peppermill and Cal Neva have better. I don't play slots so have no basis to comment on theirs. They have a small poker room that deals a $1 to $5 spread limit game, which I like, but sometimes there aren't enough players to have a table open.

I tried their lobster buffet about a year ago. I thought it was good but no great bargain. The lobsters were small but you got as many as you wanted. They were cooked whole and we had to pull them apart with our hands, which was messy. I don't know if things have changed since we were there. I'm not a big buffet fan so I haven't tried any of the others.

If you don't want to drive, they have a shuttle that picks up and drops off in front of the bowling stadium. The schedule is probably on their web site.

"Is the trench done?"

Phase one is done except for the landscaping. They're running trains in it and using the downtown passenger station. There are plans eventually to cover it for the two or three blocks west of Virginia Street, as soon as they can find the financing.

"Any more news on the sale of the Fitz?"

No recent developments that I've heard of.

Peppermill drawing: They didn't drop out. I canned them because numerous winners didn't get their prize due to confusion at the hotel.

Newsletter: I have loads of horrible jokes, but didn't have the time or giveadarn to publish one this month.

John's location: Try Shooters. Thanks to BC Dave for the snazzy, tasteless avatar.

Seafood buffets: Friday at the Pep - seafood - $26.99 - haven't been there
Saturday at the Pep - steak and king crab - $24.99 - small crab legs, so you have to eat more. Also dungeness and snow crab. I love it.

Friday at Atlantis - seafood buffet - $25.99 - Awesome http://visitreno.com/restaurants/reviews/tcharlies/index.htm
Saturday at Atlantis - steak and seafood - $24.99 - I love it.

Sunday brunch at the Siena - about $25 - Fantastic. Great big crab legs (I could only eat 37 of 'em) all kinds of wonderful surf and turf dishes. I especially enjoyed it because I had fabulous but clumsy company AND the meal was comped. Champagne is subject to sudden spurts of intense gravity without warning. (Inside joke which Jerry will be more than delighted to explain).

Trench: question answered.

Brew Brothers: Happy hour Mon - Fri 3:00 - 5:00

Fitz: I had made arrangements to buy it, but my social security check was late.

Speaking of Boomtown, I just got an email from them offering 2 nights lodging and 2 lobster buffets for $119, any Thursday through Sunday. I didn't see any expiration date. If interested call 1-877-726-6686.

BCDave, you are the avatar KING..
John's new avy really rocks.
I had to study it for awhile to be sure that it wasn't an actual photo. The resemblance is uncanny.
Even though John is very light on his feet, I thought the institution of the eight buck cover charge while he is dancing was a bit steep. Wink

What's with you moderators? Another perfectly good thread has deteriorated into a Shooters free for all.... Just kidding Hawk! Thanks again for the avatar praise and yes the pic was the inspiration for the drawing. As for the eight bucks to get in to see John.....you get what you pay for! BC Dave

If you like seafood, there's a place in the Peppermill that seems to get quite a bit of respectful commentary, though I can't remember the name of the place shooters - my wife had the Cioppino there, and while it was probably not the greatest on earth shooters, it seemed to meet her oft-impossibly-high standards, which means it passed a substantial test. Beware, though, it's served in one of those bowls that isn't quite level - hard to describe, but it's as though they pulled one side of the bowl higher than the other before putting it in the kiln, so it's got this unsteady look to it which I would probably not want to see after an evening's making merry with imbibables...another good place is in the Silver Legacy; forget that name too shooters, but it's right next to their fancy-shmancy steak house...the Oyster Bar, or some such thing....shooters....dang...Dave is right...shooters...can no longer resist....shooters....urge to discuss....shooters....shooters...shooters...shooters....must....try....to....stop......SHOOTERS

Stan has been assimilated. Resistance to Shooters is futile!
