Here's the news release from Atlantis announcing a new game:

Atlantis Casino Resort Spa announces the arrival of a new table game, Blackjack Press™. An exciting twist on Blackjack, Blackjack Press™ allows a player to play two hands and “press” the one that he thinks can beat the dealer! Atlantis is the only casino in Northern Nevada to feature this fabulous new game!

Playing the game is easy; make an equal wager on both blackjack hands and the Press bet, then you’ll receive two cards on each hand dealt face up. The dealer receives two cards, one face up and one face down. If your initial four cards are all the same color, your Press bet loses. Otherwise, you must decide where to place your Press bet, on your first blackjack hand or your second. The dealer then follows standard house procedures for Blackjack. You can hit, stand, split or double down, just as in standard Blackjack. If your hand beats the dealer’s then your standard Blackjack wager and your Press bet wagers win. Players Blackjacks always win.

Hmmm.... If I understand it correctly, it looks like the player is required to make three bets (standard bet on two hands and then you're forced to double up on one hand, though you can draw more than one card), the other rules remain the same so there's no advantage to the player, he's just forced to bet more, and the house gets the extra advantage of winning when your four cards are the same color (not same suit?). How many decks do they use, which might affect the chances of getting 4 of the same color. Doesn't look like there's much reason to play this game.

OTOH, I'm kind of interested in Blackjack Switch at Harrah's. You have to play two hands, but after your 4 cards are dealt you can switch the second card in each hand to improve your total or drawing odds. Blackjacks only pay even money and a dealer 22 is a push, but with proper play the casino edge is a tolerable .16%. You are absolutely correct. The house edge on this game, when played with perfect specialized strategy, which few will manage to do, is about .60%. Real-world house edge will be closer to 1.50% or a horrible 2% against the "average" player.

With Reno-area blackjack ranging from .18% (double any first two cards) to .44% (double 10 and 11 only), playing Blackjack Press would be downright stupid.

Don't know if they were doing it in Reno, but at Harrahs Tahoe, if you switch to create a blackjack, it is only considered 21, which would push on a dealer 21 or 22. so I'm sure that .16 percent casino advantage would go up.
