Saturday, Sept. 1
Left Raleigh 6:00 am. Arrived 12:00 noon.
Pep’s new construction seems to be moving on. Seems like they have a lot to do between now and opening in December. But, everyone says it will be ready.
We had 2 free nights and 3 comped nights.

Down to play. Gary, played 50 Lions. He was playing a $1 a round. He didn’t know what happened but the bonus round netted him over $200. We ate at the Coffee shop. Prime rib special - $8 something. This time, the meal was mediocre. Beef was on the tough side.
Casino was busy for the holiday weekend.

Sunday Sept. 2
I put way too much money in the 3 quarter red, white and blue machine by the customer service area. My goal was to win the $5000 progressive. I just added to the value. Then proceeded to have a higher goal. Played too much in MegaBucks progressive. Nada! Neither one of us did well today. We watched some NASCAR and ate at the Sports Deli. Gary had the Rueben. I had the Brisket with horseradish. Whoa! The horseradish was pure. It made my eyes and nose burn. Saw people winning some good amounts but didn’t see any W-G’s being issued.

Monday, Sept. 3
Played a comped 2 day tourney. No one knew what they were going to win. Everyone was going to win. After the first 8, the payoff varied. The amounts were staggered from $50 to $1,000. I think the last place paid $2000. There were 500 people in this tournament. 95% were in the 55+ club. Talking to a few people around, they were comped entry fees. I’ve noticed the Pep has increased the amount of tournaments held. They must be making money off these tourneys.

Tuesday, Sept 4
Kids back to school today. The casino isn’t quite as hectic. Finished the tourney with a piece of cake and $50.
Steak House with our $50 coupon. Gary had the prime rib. I had the petite filet. Great service.
This was a better day in the winnings. My luck was turning around. Hit 4 deuces with the ace kicker. Then turned around and had 5, 4’s and 5 3’s.

Wednesday, Sept. 5
We thought we should go outside and get some fresh air. It was a nice day.
We took a cab to the Atlantis. We always stop there and play for a couple of hours to keep the comps current. The last time we were there they said we had enough comps for two to eat anywhere the casino. I checked the comps this trip and was told we only had enough comps for 1 buffet. The gal looked confused and asked when we were there last. We played January 2007, well within the 18 month expiration. She just kind of said, oh well, you have 1 buffet. We passed and decided to leave. I stopped and stuck $20 in a Stinkin Rich slot machine. Played 50 lines 2 times for a $1. Went into an immediate bonus. Retriggered and got a ticket out for $330.00. That overrode the missed comps.

We had received free play money from the Pep. We stuck the money in $1 machines. It’s nice to win on free money. I hit for $240 and Gary hit for over $100. We needed that. We had money to take home. Not all the money but some of it. We stayed up way too late and felt rough for our trip home on Thursday.

Thursday, Sept. 6.
Five days is a little too much fun. We needed to get home, dry out and catch up on some needed sleep. Our host checked us out and said 3 times “you guys gambled a lot”. Yes we did! That was our mission. Our bill was $22. – One tip and 2 phone calls. We still left the casino with losses that should have covered our billable amount.

Our flight was at 2:30 with a 60 min layover in Dallas, arriving in Raleigh at 12:00 midnight.

Flight was delayed. We left at 3:15, arriving in Dallas knowing we missed our connection. Connecting flight was delayed. We left Dallas 40 minutes later. Thank you!

As we saw the lights of surrounding Raleigh, I commented we seemed to be descending at a faster speed than normal. The pilot got on and said they had a fire alarm in the rear cargo hold and the fire trucks were going to meet us on the runway. We were to prepare for an emergency exit landing. He also said he was being cautious thinking it may be a faulty alarm. This was at 12:45. We sat as the fire marshal opened the cargo hold. Pilot tells us the marshal wants all cargo removed from the hold area. He saw either a chemical spill or the residue the plane’s emergency fire extinguishers. He didn’t want the pilot to restart the engines. We waited another 30 min for the tow truck to haul the plane back to the gate. All said and done we got home after 3:00 a.m. Not bad all things considered.

Another good trip – See y’all in 08

Thanks for the detailed report. Wish you had done better at the machines, but glad to hear you got a good chunk of your money back. I went by the back of the Peppermill this morning and it looks like there's no room to walk around outside. That lot is just packed to the hilt with buildings. I can't wait to see the new convention center.

Thanks again,
John

John
Gary voiced a concern to our host that for the size of the convention center and the additional rooms there wouldn't be enough parking. Maggie said they are going to build a parking ramp in the rear for employees. That will help

Thanks for the reply

Thanks for posting. Sounds like a great trip.

I never even thought about the parking issue with the events center. Hmm.... I hope there will be enough room!

The parking ramp helps a lot. I don't think I've ever seen it completely filled.

What I'm wondering is whether they'll take down the old Montego Bay building as part of the overhaul. It really doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the project but I can't find anything about it on their web site.
