Hello, hope everyone is doing well. Just wanted to post my trip report from April 22-26. All in all it was about 1000% better than my trip back in January, and even came out a little ahead...

On 4/22 I landed in Reno about 1:30 am. Was gettin' a little disturbed along the way because I didn't have reservations anywhere, and every place I had called for that night beforehand seemed to be way over the $100 mark even with a players club membership (I'm not getting too many offers/comps yet, as my first gambling trip to Reno was only back in January.) During an hour long stop in Vegas, I was able to get a really good deal of $49 at the Gold Dust West when I called. Since it was so late I had to take a cab down there from the airport (I was going to hop on the shuttle bus for the Sands and walk the rest of the way but it didn't work out...) Had an awesome burger at the Wildwood restaurant. Played some of the penny multiliners right before checking out, and got a $50 win on one of the new Men In Black Alien Attack machines. Looks like the Gold Dust West got a few more traditional reel slots in there since my last visit in January but they all appeared to be Wheel of Fortune progressives, no standalones. Took advantage of a double points coupon and was able to get $10 back with combined points from my last visit.

After I checked out it was back to the airport and on the bus to Stateline. Along the way I stopped off to retrieve my snowboard equipment from the Palace pawn shop across from the El Dorado (BAD trip back in January!). Went into the Fitz for about 45 minutes, got $2.50 on a multiline 5 cent Monopoly machine but that was about it. Walked down to the Cal Neva and lost about $5.

Once I got to Stateline it was back to the Horizon, my "preferred" casino there as some of you might know. They pulled through for me once again! I had a coupon for 2 free nights, got another free upgrade to the Alpine Tower and this time they went all out and gave me a balcony room, which was awesome because it was cool to be able to sit out there and get tanked in between gambling and snowboarding sessions. No major winnings during the 3 nights I was there, although I did come about ahead about $10 at the craps table and got an $80 bonus win on a $1, 3 coin Pinball on the last night. Went into Bill's across the street to get a steak at the Roadhouse later on. Saw somebody that said "I've never tried one of these before" at one of the video poker machines at the bar, and not even 5 minutes later he got a Royal Flush! Beginner's luck, don't you just love it...

Got to utilize my points and wound up getting comped for the third night at the Horizon. They appear to be marketing their Advantage Club prizes and looks like there's really good stuff - vehicles, snowmobiles, skis, snowboards, etc...but God only knows how many thousands and millions of points they want...you could probably spend enough money to buy a Hummer in the process...

The snowboarding conditions across the street at Heavenly were still really good for that late in the season, I was fortunate to get out there when I did because I think they closed on May 1. Got 3 1/2 more days of riding in, and took advantage of the last of all the killer snow that dumped there this winter (and spring, and fall).

All in all, a great trip, and Reno/Tahoe really seems nice this time of year, didn't see crowds anywhere and the weather was pure sun (bad for me because I forgot the sunscreen on the slopes and came back with the most wicked goggle-marked sunburn that I'm still getting ragged on for!) Came out a little ahead in the long run, and got my board back from that last trip when I didn't! Hey John, sorry we didn't get a chance to meet up. I tried emailing you before I left, but my Yahoo account sometimes takes days to send something!

Best of luck,
floridagambler
