I love the Peppermill swimming pool, and I see it is now closed until Memorial Day. Does anyone have any information on what the pool will be like when they reopen it? Will it be larger? Still have the mountain? I can find drawings about the rest of the remodel, but nothing on the swimming pool. I am also wondering about the new fitness center.

I looked in on it from the parking garage a week or so ago. There was no water in the pool but they had workers in it cleaning up, so from that I guess they intend to use it until the new pool is ready. It is hard up against the construction site (in fact, the southeast corner of the deck area was torn up) so it might be a bit dusty and noisy at times. They could probably put up some sort of fencing or privacy screen to control some of that.

I don't know much about the new pool area except that it is supposed to be bigger and more deluxe than the existing area, with one of the new restaurants incorporated into it or overlooking it. From drawings on the Peppermill's web site it looks like it will be between the existing hotel and the new Tuscan tower to the west. I am wondering how much of the pool area will be affected by the new tower's shadow, especially in Spring and Fall when the sun is lower in the sky.

Just got back from a 3-night stay at the Pepp.

Pool area will be expanded greatly with the new Tuscon Tower. My host said that there will be several suites in the Tuscon tower that will have walk out verandas directly into the new pool area. I did not ask if they were removing the mountain or not.

They were remodeling many of the suites in the old tower while we were there. Very noisy with them using jack-hammers to break up the marble flooring on the suits on the 16th floor. Woke us up every morning at 9AM

Maybe if I get time I will post a trip report

I too just returned from a stay at the Peppermill. I moved twice to avoid the noise!
The noise from construction vehicles made me move from a mountain view room, the noise from renovation on the 16th floor made me move from my 11th floor room. I finally ended up on the north side of the Y on the 14th floor where I was undisturbed.
What a pain in the ass. They should have known when moving me from my first room because of noise from the tower construction, that I'd have the same problem on the 11th floor near the suite that was being renovated, and forgive me, but what in the hell is a casino hotel doing waking their guests three or fours after they go to sleep? I played until 4:30 or 5:00 am, only to be awoken by hammering. Totally uncool!
I'm going back soon, but next time I'll make sure in advance to get a room I'll be able to sleep late in.

I guess I am just hoping that they keep it open all year like they have in the past. I stay there in the winter time just for that reason. Stayed at Atlantis last month so I could use their pool, and will never do THAT again. It was pretty lame!

Their web site says "Year-round resort style infinity pool surrounded by charming Tuscan gardens..." so it looks like your hopes will not be in vain. And it probably also means the mountain is going to go.

Tatterdema,

I went back in January and although the pool was drained, it was still intact with the mountain and all.

Ryder,

So that's it! I was wondering what that noise was...back in January I was on the third floor and it woke me up at about 8 am. It was directly over my suite and for a while I thought it was a broken motor in the spa above me, or perhaps someone trying to run it without water, but looking back at it all now, a jackhammer makes much more sense.
