Well here goes the YoMan's report and this is my story and I'm sticking to it. First we flew from Portland Friday 12/1 landed about 3 and sprinted for the Peppermill to check in. After getting those duties all done, we wandered around trying to get squared away for the Winter Luau Slot Tourney which was to begin on Sat. My wife and daughter both gave the tourney a whirl, and were basically waxed. My wife won one session and received a nice little prize. At the end of the tourney my wife won $50 and my daughter nailed $30 in cold hard cash. With that development we have put off our Cadillac buying till further notice. As to the regular everyday normal gambling we did OK. Friday we found a couple of friendly $.25 VP Machines in the Cabaret and ecked out a small win. That evening the Craps table basically grabbed a hold of me, shook the hell out of me, till all my money........and change was GONE! Ouch is the best term for the beating I took at the Peppermill Hoover. Saturday we tried the Western Village (Still Single Deck $3 Min. Blackjack) and dropped a few bucks watching the Dealer "One Up" me for a couple hours. Snuck up on the WV Hoover and played a couple hours, and left before I needed a blood transfusion. Gambling was definitely going down hill and we were in dire need of new sites and inspiration. Sunday we drove over to the Hilton, or the Sierra Resort to look around. Gee, I hate to report this but the place was dead, few people around and nobody at the craps table. My guess is this place is in dire financial straights, as the signs were every where they they are cutting corners. (The Bathrooms were Gross!) After we looked around this once great casino, we headed for doors. Dang I hope that this place survives as at one time the MGM was the talk of the town.

Sat. night we did go to the Christmas Show at the Eldorado. It was far better than we expected. Bright family show leaving us all with a bunch of Christmas Spirit.

Sunday afternoon I gave the Siena Craps table (10 Times Odds) a whirl, and watched the end of a 30 minute hand (which is normal for me) before I jumped in. One guy there had a few thousand in chips, but I don't know what he started with. After a couple hours of back and forth action we headed back to the Peppermill.

Sunday night after a absolutely awful dinner at the Steakhouse at the Peppermill, I humbly headed for the dreaded Peppermill Craps pit. Well I'll be damned if I didn't run into a nice warm Craps Table. 3 Guys on the other end of the beast seemed to have a bead on this monster and threw a whole bunch of passes, and numbers which made most of us damn happy. When the dust cleared I was up over a thousand which took most of the sting out off the craps beating from the previous days. Whoopee!

Well that it folks, a really good trip with lots of fun. Now at the end of month we will be heading back (To retrieve our money) or to party in the New Year. Reno........twice a month is not a bad gig.

YoMan over and out.....................................

Let me be very honest as we have been to this Steak House quite a few times, and have never thought it deserved anywhere near a Gourmet type rating. However on Sunday night 12/3 all three of us thought we would have been better off at McDonald's. We did not complain as the server was very good, but........................Petite Filet's, and the Prime Rib were............awful. Filets hard as a rock, burned flavor. Prime Rib was huge, looked great, (Midium Rare) but was tough and flavorless. Baked Potatoes and Veggies were OK. Really the Food Court had better food!

Thanks Yo, for the report. Too bad about the Steak House. I've never got past the Coffee Shop, Food Court or the Buffet which have all been very good.

I have ate at the food court and the steak house is waayyyy better in my opinion. I usually get the New york Steak, it has always been great. I have never tried the prime rib. Sorry you had a bad experience. Thankfully i have had nothing but great experiences there.

Don't get me wrong.................We still love the Pep!

Seems the Slots are a little friendlier than most, and the Craps Pit Crews are top notch.

Heck I'll even rate Reno Hotel Casinos they for overall value. Peppermill would take the top slot.

1. Peppermill great rooms (Some need to be re-furbished), decent Slot action and good Craps action. Food overall very good.

2. Eldorado (Best Rooms in Reno, Players Suites) decent slots, 9/6 VP and good Craps Action.

3. Nugget in Sparks, good rooms, good slots, and decent Craps Action.
Decent food at reasonable prices. One tower needs some updating.

4. Harrahs, good rooms, lousy Casino, decent Craps, food OK.

5. Siena, never have stayed in their rooms. Great Craps Game with 10 Times Odds. Food is decent and reasonable.

6. Western Village Sparks, gross awful rooms, decent food at reasonable prices. Steak House may be best value in Reno. Best Gambling in Reno!
Low Limits, Single Deck BJ, $1 Craps Table, and all kinds of Slots. If you drink enough, you can stay in the hotel. Rate this place the best LOW ROLLER CASINO in Reno, where they appreciate your action.

Anyway........that's my story and I'm keeping to it!

Nice report. My one experience with the steak house was equally unsatisfactory, the service was good, the food wasn't. I wrote it off to the fact that we had the early bird specials and "you get what you pay for," but maybe that's not the explanation. Besides, the purpose of a special is to get people to like the place so they will come back at full price, and you don't do that by serving substandard meals.

Yeah the rooms at the Pep will be upgraded here in the following year. I believe they will be startign that when the new tower is completed. Can't wait for that.

I suspect that there are more than a few restaurants that count on people not looking too carefully at some particular aspect of their offerings; if you're a restaurant manager in a stand-alone casino where there's little risk of people wandering off to some other steakhouse in the immediate vicinity, and you observe that 90% of your clientele is not only feeling no pain when they arrive in your restaurant thanks to the perpetual flow of booze permeating every inch of the establishment, but by the time drinks, appetizers, drinks, salads, more drinks, and finally an entree is served, they're just plain three sheets to the wind, you might start to get a tiny and greedy gleam in your eye that says, "Why not cut back on quality just a tad and save a few bucks, since no one could possibly notice?" - and once you've taken that initial step, you begin a slow but steep descent into a moral void by trimming back a little here, a little there, and so on until your restaurant rests entirely on the laurels it earned from a past era, and those unfortunate enough to patronize your now-impotent steakhouse are served a hunk of meat, which, while surviving the gaze of even the most seasoned critic due to the low-intensity yet neon-powered lighting available, turns out to have little or no flavor.

Such are the temptations of success. If you're the purveyor of a restaurant who's lucky enough to land a place in a reasonably respectable casino or hotel, you'd better keep in mind that not all of us are fooled by cheap substitutions.

Nice report. I was interested in your take on the Grand Sierra (ex. Hilton). I noticed when the new owners took over, the room rates doubled. Do you suppose they are not filling the place? I talked to a friend that had been there recently, and he said they had arm twisters to buy a condo there... no thanks. Sad

Bad meal at the Pepp? I have had nothing but good meals everywhere I have dined there, but never tried the steakhouse. I am just not much of a beef eater.

Swede- over and out.

Yep, they had a couple of Ladies in Black on the hustle for their so-called conversion to Condos' They have sent me a DVD of The Summit which apparently is the name of the Condo Units. All of brochures are very slick. Having said all of that, and seeing the condition of the place, my guess is that their huge renewal project will never get off the ground. Some of the locals around here probably have a better handle on what going on at the Old Hilton. YoMan won't be investing in their dream.

Regarding the Peppermill Steak House all I can say is that the meal was crummy. In fact a crummy rating would actually be about 2 positions higher than it should be rated.

Still we really like the Peppermill for rooms and gambling and will be dropping by there in a couple of weeks. It is always nice to visit our money.

YoMan......over and out
