Sounds like justice was done in the cases you have posted. Large punitive damages, facts documented in public record, and the system works. Your argument about casinos is about the same as saying all police are bad due to cases of rogue officers violating the law on their own. There are always some cases of abuses in life, and that is why we have the court system to sort it out. All of these articles showed the casino in a poor light, and large dollar damages were awarded. |

Other than the stonewall job when my car got dinged and I needed a security taped reviewed, my only known contact with security was at the Cal Neva.
Back when the breakfast special was still 99 cents, I was reading the morning paper in a booth at the Copper Ledge. Two big security guys with aggressive body language walked up to the booth and asked (not too politely) what my name was. Then they asked for ID. As I was digging it out, I asked why I was getting the 3rd degree. One said I looked like a "banned person".
I complied and gave them my Cal Neva players card, my Oregon drivers license. They examined both, called on their radio, and left saying, " Enjoy your breakfast".
I suppose I could have said "No" to their request. Then maybe I'd own a part of the casino (after recovering from injuries). But it seemed more reasonable to do as I was told at the time.
Oh, one more thing. As they left, I said, "Say hi to the Swing Shift Manager, Cindy Springer. Tell her you ran into J.D.". Both jaws dropped a foot.
Of course I'm no advantage player. I don't do that well when they are pouring free drinks. I just try to get even by getting more comps. |
