I've definitely had some day after day 'loose at everything I try' experiences in Reno -seemingly not worth a trip report. But, right now, my excitement consists of daily snow removal and trudging through that snow with my dogs. Even a little hint of life in Reno and Tahoe would be a pleasant fantasy distraction. Mmmmm, free drinks, steak dinners, big bear claws as an breakfast appetizers, Oceano fish baskets, etc, etc .....

HI All

I have decided to post a little of what i can recall. I must say this was a pretty uneventful trip and it might be one of the worst ever. I cannot really remember alot of details. This was back in September mind you. lol

We left my place around 3:30 am on a Sunday. We were driving down with the plan to stop briefly at my friends fathers place in northern Oregon. Driving my friends new SUV which as we all know, gas prices were well over $4.00 a gallon at this time.

Our plan was our first 2 nights at the Peppermill. We arrived around 6 p.m. i think. Check in was smooth. We had a room reserved in Tuscany Tower. Room was same as always. Personally i feel like its time for a refresh.. The decor is kinda old and dated now in my opinion. Since they have built the Tuscany tower, they have remodeled the other tower twice now. Our room was comped by my friends my Vegas rewards account minus the outrageous resort fees. I believe they were $45 a night. We really didnt have much time at the Peppermill. However gambling wise i only ended up loosing a little bit there. We ate at the Cafe Milano which was good as well as we went to Ruby River Steakhouse across the street and had a good meal. The morning we were checking out i did call down to the hosts to see about getting resort fees waived. They said technically i did not play enough however they want us to come back so they will waive them. So that saved us about $100

From there our plan was to stay in Tahoe, Harvey's in a remodeled lake view room. The room was comped. The room was fairly nice being it was remodeled recently. I though am i details person. I did notice some things like peeling wallpaper that needed to be fixed. The other odd thing was all these rooms were recently remodeled however walking down the hall you noticed every door was banged up so badly with all kinds of nicks and paint missing. Not just a nick here and there but multiple. They looked so bad. I dont get why they haven't touched these up after spending all this money on making everything look nice. One nice thing about the room is it did have a window you can open and get fresh air. It was quite cold when we were there and rainy unfortunately. Another thing i really dont agree with is the fact they charge hotel guests for parking. I know if you are Platinum or above you can get his waived but at the time we weren't. I understand not wanting all the people in tahoe to use your parking so therefore you charge but a hotel guest?

Tahoe was a huge let down. Since we arrived on a Tuesday, many of the dining places in the casinos were closed .. Open hours such as thurs thru Sunday, ect. There was not even a 24 hour food option. There was the Lucky Beaver across the street however the lines were often long as it was one of the only places near casino open. We did eat there during the day one day and it was decent. I mean i cant even recall what i ate honestly. It just wasn't that great. lol... Another day we walked to some little cafe late morning thining we would have a late breakfast but the waits there were long. Being it was mid week i wasnt expecting a long wait but nope. We had planned one night to go to the Mexican Place at Harvey's as it was finally going to be open. We went down 30 minutes before closing and they decided to close early since the Luke Bryan concert was going on. That kinda did it in for us.

We went on the Caesars app and it showed we could get free rooms in Reno and went to the Silver Legacy for our last night. I guess Street Vibrations was going on so it was crazy busy. We were just happy to be somewhere that had more food options that were actually open. We tried the 24 hour place in SL. Food was pretty good. Tried the same Mexican joint that was at Tahoe but in SL. I thought the food was ehh.. not that great. I have an issue with a Mexican restaurant charging $10 for chips and salsa. I was shocked actually they were charging that much. Our room was recently remodeled but felt kinda small. It was quiet for most part. We were pretty high up but you could still hear all the motorcycles outside. Not a big deal though.

For this trip i brought at least double what i do in spending cash and got absolutely mopped up. I really didnt get much play out of my money at all. The casinos in my opinion have way to many progressive games. Its hard to find any of the old games i like which is a big bummer. There also were alot of sketchy people hanging out in the downtown casinos.. kinda made me feel like i needed to watch my belongings and be on high alert at all times.

When we were in Tahoe the drink service was super slow. Not one place supposedly had a blender so i could order my strawberry daquiris which i found super odd. How is that even possible?? One day i waited over 45 minutes just to see a server at Harveys and we were in a pretty busy area of casino.

I forgot to add the first night we arrived at the Pep they had a tequilla giveaway however they ran out by the time we got to it. They did give us i think $20 in free play instead. I got lucky though and found someones bottle sitting in between some slot machines and there was no one around so i took it... lol.. Also when we were in Reno Downtown.. the SL had a vodka giveaway so i got a free bottle of sky as well.

If i think of anything else i will add to this. As i said i cant remember alot of details and this really was a lame trip.

I really miss the old Peppermill. All the food options are so spendy. What happened to a good cheap meal?

Thanks for the TR Alison!

Sorry that it was kinda a bummer trip. Interesting about downtown. We have been staying at the Atlantis lately and have really enjoyed it.

YES to the Peppermill Tuscany room makeover.... SO needed!

Thanks again for sharing (and even sketchy details I dig!)

Your welcome. I had just added my thoughts on tahoe charging hotel guests for parking. I feel like thats ridiculous. lol

Since we have not been in so long we really didnt have many room options and we wanted to not pay. Tahoe and Pep were the only options. Our next trip we prob will stay just the Pep and Downtown.

We did like that Circus Circus had a live band playing Friday night. So that was fun. Smile

The line there for people to check in was the longest line i have ever seen .It was nuts!

We needed a trip report - Thanks Alison! 3:30 in the morning departure time! That's gotta be tough. I never did like getting up at times like that. Sorry that the trip was lackluster. Especially Tahoe.

Sorry also to hear that the Tuscany Tower is looking a little worn. Those rooms were so beautiful for the first few years. I'm thinking of staying at the Pep soon. Sounds like there's no sense paying extra for a Tuscany room.

It's sad too, that those great cheap meals we used to get all over Reno are now so hard to find. The Cal Neva's Top Deck restaurant may be the last reliable place to find them. We used to get two Prime Rib dinners with salad bar for $5.00 total there!

Again, thanks for the report. Hopefully your next one will be full of wins and good times.
