How about some Cal Neva photos? These were all taken in March 2018. Had lunch at the Top Deck, then played slots. Love their old, classic slot machines!

You sure that's your sandwich? I posted the same one in a trip report back in 2014.

Unfortunately, my hosting service for that trip report has disintegrated the photos.

I've spent so many happy hours at our good ole Cal Neva. I remember it being so noisy and busy in the 80's and 90's. Loud dollar tokens banging into those metal trays. Keno games everywhere. Bars everywhere! Played video poker there for hours. Hit my first Royal Flush there on a nickel machine - A progressive, it paid around $280!

I also had some luck on that cool old Nevadan dollar slot...

So many good (and cheap) meals in the Top Deck restaurant - Many courtesy of this little packet of coupons. These were for Canadian visitors. There were a lot of them!

There were always 3 coupons in the little booklet they gave you, once a day. The top coupon never made it home with me. Always was torn off - It was for 2 free drinks!

Enjoying the Top Deck in March 2014 ...

What a great photo of you and Janice!

I too miss the noise of those dollar tokens banging in the metal trays! Aaahhh, the good old days! Remember the section of the casino, I think it was called the Roundhouse of Dollars? Oh man, that was so much fun in there. I tried to see if I had any old photos of that but I do not. I remember the first time I went back there after that had been torn out and I was so bummed.

Thanks, Seahawk, for the compliment on our photo. I think John took that picture. I do remember the round-house well. I didn’t play those dollar machines much though. (When those machines were in a bad mood they took your money so fast you didn’t even have time for a free drink!)

There’s a bit of a story behind my $300 win on the Nevadan $ machine; I was at work on the upper car deck of the Spirit of British Columbia loading cars at Swartz Bay (near Victoria). A passenger walked up to me and asked if I would sell him my sunglasses for $40. They were just drug store variety sunglasses, but I liked them and they were no longer available. But, anyway, I accepted his generous offer and squinted thru the rest of my work day. I put the two Canadian $20s in an envelope to save for Reno - Specifically the Cal Neva (with their outstanding Canadian exchange rate). So once I got to Reno, I think the change person at the Cal Neva gave me about $32 US for my Can $40 and I wandered around the casino trying a few dollars here and there - without much luck. Finally I tried the Nevadan on the second floor (near the Top Deck). I think I won that $300 on the first pull! I got some nicer sunglasses after that.

Oh my old friend the Cal-Neva. The 3am meals for $3.99 were just....dreamy. Ok, we were pretty lit at that point so a flip flop might be tasty? I've had such great gaming there and I love finding the old coin machines. Last trip they opened a $2 BJ table for my friends and I and we played for hours.

But so many late, late, late night young person memories there. Sigh.

I think we have a Cal Neva admiration society going here. I'm not religious, but here goes ...

God Bless the Cal Neva!!!

As I first saw her January 1985

This trip, in Sept '06, was basically a four day stag party for the guy in the red shirt and black cowboy hat. But, we took a break from the festivities to drink a toast to a dearly departed friend and co-worker. We're at the bar in the back building of the Cal-Neva 2nd floor.

Once a very trendy place to be and be seen. The Cal Neva at North lake Tahoe.

Had my 40th birthday there at Cal-Neva. We had so much fun and while it was not full at all, we did do all the basement and behind the scenes tours. They were so great with us. Seriously, they were not busy and we felt well taken care of. They put us up in a room in the tower with 2 bedrooms and a sweet view and we had lots of drinks. Great memory for me......

I only visited the Lake Tahoe Cal-Neva a few times. In hindsight, it would have been very cool to stay there. It was owned by Frank Sinatra and some of his ‘pals’ for awhile. I like the out of the way, rustic, ski lodge and woodsy feel of the place. For those who have not visited this treasure - It sits right on the California/Nevada border and inside that border is a painted stripe on the casino floor. Slot machines and tables on the east side and just boring old (OK, very scenic) California on the west. It’s been closed for a number of years. Several investors have been trying to renovate and reopen it. Hope they succeed.

Out back in Sept 2006 .. Some renovations were slowly happening

Ooohhh, that feeling I get when I'm going down the main escalator into the casino at Silver Legacy for the first time after my plane has just landed and knowing once I'm there I don't care what is going on in the outside world for a few days. True escapism.

I miss that feeling and hope to experience it again later this year.

Never heard it put into words before SeaHawk, but you have certainly described a feeling that I (and I bet all of our fellow VisitRenoers) can relate to.
Throwing our stuff in the room, then down the hall and that fateful first ride down the elevator to wonderland! Oh yeah - can't wait!
