I think your trip is about to begin a a couple of days. Best of luck and we hope to hear all the details.

In today's mail I got the exact same offer from Boomtown that both of us received for September. It looks like you should be able to use the September offers for the front end of your trip and then hit them again on the tail end of the trip in October.

At least I would assume you got your Boomtown mailer. ??

Thanks for the wishes, Swede.

Great minds think alike. I did my spreadsheet of offers about a week ago and had every night from 25 Sept to 9 Oct (except 7 & 8 Oct of the Italian Festival) comped. (Was thinking of PAYING for a room at Gold Dust West ....walking distance from downtown) Planned on leaving 09 OCT Sunday.

Then I got an ADDITIONAL mailer for a "free two nts 9-10 OCT " at GSR as a "free slot tournament" entry. No entry fee, $ 50- $ 5,000 free play prize. So I'm thinking shifting back a little bit. THEN I got an additional two night date specific offer for Atlantis...which changes everything if I want to try to use them all.

The BEST part of Boomtown's THREE NIGHT offers is they are good on weekends. Currently planning Thurs, Fri Sat Sept. 29, 30, 01 OCT. Might have to re do my spreadsheet again.

If this keeps up, I may be there until Tanksgiving.

HAS anyone checked out the new "Treasures of the Eldorado" new swipe kiosk, yet? Mammoth Gambler says he used to win some good stuff there. In March they were just building it.

And as always....Trip reports on fly require constant cajoling and comments.

This will be a team effort...assuming my wireless internet connection holds out.

Chapter 1: Took Van to gas station for fill up. It's a 32 gallon tank . Shoulda filled up last week. I can ALMOST make it on ONE tank. But I'm a nervous wreck for the last 80 miles. So I always fill up in K Falls...close to halfway of the nine hours of DRIVING time.

My last trip was in March.

So as I'm cleaning out my suitcase from that trip (Best Bets newspaperss, coupons, loose change) and what's THIS? A Silver Legacy Cashout Voucher.?

" $ 404.00 void after 90 days " dated 25 March 2016 at 17:18

I have lots of those 3 cents.... but $ 404 ? Anyone done anything like this?

Any Silver Legacy Host someone could recommend?

Maybe I should just stay home

Well, I FINALLY got my ONE "free" (comped) night at the Silver Legacy. But it cost me about $ 400 to get it. Jokes on them...I started ordering Carano's Reserve Cabernet (sells for $ 8.50/ glass at the restaurants). So in a way, I only lost $ 300 .

My room was called "Panorama" meaning it was like the corner office with a view West & another North...on the 22nd floor great room.... but crashed hard at midnight and was up by 8 and on the road without so much as a shower. On the road with nothing but a water bottle.

Nice weather so I took the Susanville/Eagle Lake route this time. Two miles inside of Oregon at Tulelake....the rain started... and rained all the way to Portland.

Made great time. LOTS of roadside snow & red lava rock sandy melt water at Willamette Pass but no ice on road. There goes my $ 400 Boomtown car wash. And AGAIN....the last 12 miles was a traffic jam. The Eagle Lake route is 17 miles shorter and THIS TIME was quicker. Not always the case.

There must have been some kind of storm last week. Lots of large blown down timber from Chemult to Oakridge. I'll bet Hwy 58 had to have been closed for a while.

Oh....and my mail had a bunch of APRIL CASINO OFFERS....

I'll count my money tomorrow. 9 pm....bedtime. My liver feels better already.

I don't know if finding that $404 is good news- money I did not know I had.....or bad news- the money is not really money as it is out of date.

What you can do is.....beg. Tell them that you found this ticket after you got home and this is the first opportunity you have had to get back to Reno. You can lay it on thick: " I just got back to Reno for two weeks and I love to gamble. The Silver Legacy has always been my favorite place to gamble. You have the nicest people working here and have always treated me much better than any place in town. I hope you can cash this ticket for me, as I am anxious to get going with my gambling. """ Etc. Etc.

If that doesn't work, there is a guy in Reno that you know that might buy that ticket from you. He recently came into some money.

Do you have a HOST, Swede?

I mean a host that you like? ANYONE?

Funny I should know I "LOST ABOUT $ 400 ... " for my "free comped room....."
and NOT find the voucher for six months? At least it's the same YEAR.

"Forgive me.... it's my first day....."

Bonehead of the year goes to....... JD

I've had a few of those Senior Moments, when I forgot
a ticket out payout. I take them to the Cashiers cage
and they get an OK from the Supervisor and pay me.
It won't work in a Machine of any kind.

Member when I said SUsanville route is shorter? It is. And USUALLY faster. Not today. I got stuck behind this tiny tear drop 1930's replica trailer....so small I doubt it could carry much more than a change of underwear, socks and shoes.

Only about 4 feet high....and pulled by a car so small, I could not even see the car. I knew it had to be there because I could see the shadow between the little wheelbarrow tires of the trailer. I kept watching and waiting for those 10 inch tires to blow.... it was not to be. It never got moving fast enough.

I'm finally in a room....the Atlantis pull.ed a bait and switch on me.

"Yes you do have a comp offer ...I can upgrade you for an additional $30/night"

....so you're FULL?

"We are sold out of comped rooms....Sunday, Monday and Tuesday....but I can upgrade you..."

..... But my offer is only good on these nights....

"Would you like an upgrade?"

....NO. I think I'll just wave some money around in front of a couple of your tipped employees and see how they like your policy...

Good Old reliable SANDS....they still love me.

More later....

Let the games begin. Glad to hear you made it, but the bait and switch game is not on the list of games I was thinking of. I assume you did not have a reservation?

I had TWO separate "offers" for Atlantis "stays" . Neither of which they had any "vacancies" for that date. One, was for a Sunday arrival. The other was for a Tuesday arrival. When they said, "....there have been a lot of requests for that promotion and we have no available vacancies for that promotion. We can upgrade you for those dates for an additional $ 30/night...."

So they did not give me a confirmed reservation #. Both calls were before my arrival.

But I'm not worried. AND I am not done. The "game" is ON.

My plan is to return to the Atlantis and wave around a big wad of deuces at a few bartenders (many now working FAR fewer hours) until one of them makes a decision to intervene...it MIGHT work....

____

But much better story....from downtown.

Many long time readers of my TRs will recall when I stayed at the Siena...One of my must stop joints in the morning was the Skyway bar at the Cal Neva.

The weekday morning bartender was usually "Cherie" a cheerful Blonde who always at least pretended to remember me. Truth told, I believe she only "remembered the two dollar bills...which is always been fine with me. I seem to recall I probably dropped one of my usual "I suppose you're going to leave these deuces in your underwear drawer...." throw away line.. She always pretended those twos were a meaningful addition to her income and I obliged making me at least feel like I did my duty. Only much later did I find out Cherie (maybe Sherry) was married and shared a last name with the OWNER of the Cal Neva. A couple of years ago, Cherrie apparently quit the bar tending gig at the the sky way bar. I missed her.

-------------
Cut to Monday, Sept 23rd, 10 am Virginia Street stroll.....
-------------

Sands for a bloody Mary...a little VP.... break even.
Eldorado for some VP....lose a little....
Silver Legacy,,,,Jaime & Caesar at the Barron Bar...tell my $ 404 voucher story....lose a little... lotsa play....
Wander down the street....wander in to the very slow Siris.....

Two players at the bar.... "Do you guys have players cards yet?"
Bar tender says, "No but we're workin on it"
Tie guy nearby (obvious a boss) says, "It's taking longer than expected"

Me: "You do comp drinks while playing...?" "You took the stripper pole out" I say to the guy bartender.

"I'll bet you two bucks (flashing a deuce)...you don't know where the Prima Donna is..."

"HERE"...both of them say " in unison. We've both lived here our whole lives. " Worked at the Cal Neva"

I ask, "Do you know the gal that used to tend bar at Cal Neva's Skyway bar....Cherrie?"

Two dudes look at each other and laugh....

Tie Guy: "Ya...she's my WIFE".
Me:"YOU ARE JEFF?"
JEFF: "Yup...and the bartender is my son Justin "

Great story about Sherrie. It is a good thing you did not say anything offensive or you might have had a broken nose.

Well, I am off to Lake Tahoe. See everyone in a few days.

As I was saying... I love what they've done with Siri's...well except for the irritating workplace violence last year...

It was cool finally meeting Jeff and look forward to seeing his wife once again this morning on today's V Street stroll.

I have NOW established my self as a serious VP player and it does NOT take much to be the best customer at the bar here. Too bad they no longer have either the Virginian OR the old Onslow. But I have a feeling Jeff is not done expanding.

I lose small at Silver Legacy (will be returning this am to beg and cajole after pleading insanity about that $ 404 ). I will be giving a host the address of this thread so IF we get a new member... BE NICE.

Lose small after some wild swings at Eldo. Same at Cal Neva.... but run my initial $ 20 at Siri's up to $ 580 within and hour or so. Hit a couple of 4OK at Dbl Dbl Bonus poker playing dollars. And three 4 to the royal.... but close does not count.

After quickly dropping down to about $ 475 ... cash out and now Justin will miss me. Not sure HOW they will keep the riff raff out. But is is open, airy, doors wide open and I love it being right on the street. Siri's is now on my MUST visit list.

Update on the Atlantis "Upgrade'. THIRD call trying to "accept their offer..." Same old line...we can "upgrade you for $ 30/ night..." but THIS time I am ready with my reply.

"MAke sure you tell your boss...the bait and switch is NOT working and instead of establishing loyalty and goodwill....it engenders the opposite."

THIS time...she immediately drops the cost of the "upgrade" to $ 19/night and being tonight..homeless I accept.

But now I feel much less required to play to my normal levels....but now I's best not wait quite so long on my other offers.

"GSR... get warmed up... you're going in for ATL."

Oh...and Siri's is paying for my "Upgrade"

More later on request.
